"I feel like a heel!" I yelled, placing my hand on my head, leaning back on the bench seat as we sped away.
"You can't blame yourself," Dakota said, checking the rearview mirror and side mirrors to make sure we weren't followed.
"Oh, yes I can!" I yelled, tears welling up in my eyes. "If I hadn't gasped, then they wouldn't have known we were even there!"
"You couldn't help it, Jessica!" Dakota said, quickly whipping the car over to the side of the road. "Look at me!" he said, shaking my shoulders and I opened my eyes. "Jessica, you can't blame yourself! How else are you supposed to react when you find out they want to use you as a sacrifice?"
"I wonder what else they're going to need... besides me!" I yelled, sounding hysterical even to my own ears.
Dakota shook his head. "From the sound of it, I don't think they need you specifically. But since you're the Alpha and have been alluding them, they wanted you. But anyone will do."
