Chapter 1 - What She Has Become

Drip, Drip! The blood ran off her finger tips again.. The room was filled with bodies destroyed by the beast inside. Marissa was covered in blood from the battle, maybe she could have let one of them live but that time had pass a long time. She no longer counted her enemies or her kills, it was pointless with how many times she had to defend herself just because her mother was a goddess. Her aquatic drow body was strong and graceful, the rarity of her race made her a prize without adding who birthed her.

She looked around her lair, freshly painted with blood that ran from the walls and floor to a watery opening the intruders used to enter. The shark would come soon to come to claim the bodies with happy glad. Marissa shifted the aftermath of the battle to check her belongings, besides the bed smoking in the corner everything looked fine. It wouldn't take long to gather more wood but drying it was going to be a pain. Her senses told her about her visitor before he spoke up, damnable shadow-walker.

"You would think the dummies would know better then to mess with anyone of us", Seth said with a sympathetic sigh. He didn't really look it but he was her older brother looking extremely human in his sixty almost. The bodies didn't bug him as much as missing the battle did. Seth lived in a city as a council member, it was too peaceful for any notable battles outside of the battle arena and his wife with kill him if he entered those.

"How are the kids? Anna still demanding I train her?" Marissa let out hopefully at the thought of her favorite niece visiting.

"Most of them are behaving, Anna is going nuts about her Ma's matchmaking plans." Seth chuckled out with a smile.

"Mother would have her choose The Songbird Way," Marissa huffed at the idea of mating and marriage,"Dad must be thrilled you took his seat."

"He is and he asked me to talk you into visiting" he said, his one red eye and one purple eye meeting Marissa's deep sea green eyes. She looked just like their mother did the last time they saw her in person about ten years ago. No one miss their mother like their father did and everytime she visited it seemed to remind him how long they had been apart. Marissa's voice even seemed to be a copy at times, she inherited everything from her mother so much many mistook her for her mother. She hide under the waves to keep from being follow by her mother's church, daughter to The Mother of Beast didn't help you get any privacy and she was much like her mother in needing her space.

"Fine, but you have to bring me a new mattress," she said pointing to the ashes of the old one. They sent Seth because they know she could not refuse him if he gave her that look. Marissa didn't want to go to the city but it had been a while. Maybe she could see how the dragons of the city where adapting. Something inside her was jumpy and excited, if she had been the typed she would have prayed to one of the gods.
