"How dare you."
Angeal lowered her bow as she tried her best to contain her fear.
"I'm sorry, master. My granddaughter—"
"Stay where you are," Devin commanded the old man when he was about to walk towards them.
The atmosphere of the mansion suddenly turned cold. Everyone looked at their direction, feeling worried about Angeal.
Arvid's hands turned into tight fists as he watched how their master treat Angeal coldly. Edwin noticed his son's actions so he whispered to him to give a warning.
"Don't do anything that would anger the master. You will just make it worse," he warned and Arvid's angry eyes still hadn't left the scene in front of them.
Gwen held her chest, as if she was containing her heart inside. She felt as if her heart might jump out soon!
'Oh, Angeal,' Martha thought as she held her breath, wishing for this to end for Angeal's sake.
Their master's temper is indeed one to be feared.
Ivar's footsteps were heard as he started walking towards his master.
"Devin, you don't have to scare the human girl—"
"Shut up!"
A strong gust of wind blew in the room they were in, making the others, except for Devin and Angeal, cover their faces for protection. Ivar was sent flying, making him hit his back hard on the mansion's floor the moment he landed.
'Ow... there goes his temper...'
"Apologize," Devin said as his eyes turned colder by the second.
As Angeal's hand was shaking in fear, she searched for her phone in her dress' pocket, but it was not there. Without lifting her head, she looked to the left and from the corner of her eyes, she saw that her phone was on the floor, out of reach.
She could not speak...
Angeal was scared to death and didn't know what to do. What she did was only bow again, hoping for their master to forgive her.
"I know you're not deaf. Apologize."
Ivar sighed, feeling sorry for Angeal.
"Devin, you don't have to do this. It was an unavoidable accident."
Devin gave him a death stare, making the other servants beside Ivar not dare look at their master.
"Do you want me to send you flying again until I eat your soul? I mean it."
Ivar gulped, not daring to speak again.
He knew his best friend very well. His temper was already bad, and now that they came home tired, Devin's temper is like a ticking time bomb!
"M-master," the old man spoke and his voice echoed in the vast room. "If you want to punish my granddaughter, please punish me instead," he suggested then he bowed, even kneeling on the ground just to beg the soul eater for his granddaughter's mercy.
But his plea fell on deaf ears. The soul eater ignored him, his eyes not leaving the human girl in front of him.
"I noticed you were not here the moment I arrived. I let that go, yet you still had the audacity to bump your master."
Angeal's body felt colder today than usual. As she kept her body low, she felt that there were cold drops of sweat on her forehead and on her back.
'How do we look, but generally, what do you feel?'
Suddenly, right at this moment, Angeal remembered what Gwen asked her earlier. Now that she is in front of their master, she did feel different. In their master's presence, she felt heavy and...
Extremely sad.
"Do I have to say it again? Apologize."
Angeal slowly raised her body, but her head still hung low. Devin cocked his head to the left, as if waiting for her to speak even though he knew that the girl in front of him couldn't speak.
"Well?"
Angeal nervously raised her head to look at Devin straight in the eyes. When Angeal's blue, fearful eyes met their master's purple, intimidating eyes, the soul eater's body suddenly felt different.
Rage. Frenzy.
In the eyes of their powerful master, looking at the girl made her actions seem to be in slow motion, as if emphasizing her every move. The girl locked eyes with him and she slowly parted her lips to speak.
"I'm sorry, master," her lips read and even without a voice, Devin understood her lip sync very well.
Devin's eyes widened as he looked at the scared girl in front of him. Feeling awkward, Angeal avoided his gaze then bowed in front of him again to show respect.
Devin's body started to react differently. His hands started to shake uncontrollably then he held his chest as if he couldn't breathe.
Ivar looked at his master worriedly when he noticed something different from him.
"Devin?"
Each second, it grew difficult for Devin to breathe. He suddenly fell to the ground on his knees, and started coughing profusely.
"Master!"
Gladios, Martha, and Gwen shouted in unison while Edwin and Arvid worriedly watched at the side. Angeal also raised her body from bowing, then her eyes widened to see him coughing in front of her.
'Oh no... could it be?'
Ivar started to speculate what was happening. When Devin looked at him as if asking for help, fear rose from Ivar when it showed that their master's eyes turned scarlet red once more.
