Jace's lips were cold and Katerina could taste the minty flavor of toothpaste. Still, she like the way his lips felt. She like the way his tongue seemed seek hers.
When they finally separated there was a slight blush on Katerina's face. Unfortunately, it wasn't due to shyness but due to the lack of oxygen. Jace held the back of her neck in one hand and looked down at her. He seemed to be satisfied by her expression.
"You're acting differently." He stated. It wasn't a question or an accusation, he was telling a fact.
"Yes." Katerina wasn't faced by his words, if he didn't noticed this simple detail she would truly wonder what was wrong with humanity.
"It's pleasing. But don't overdo yourself."
"Okay."
Jace moved aside and continued getting ready by himself. Katerina kept her gaze on him till he was finally done and out of the house.
She then proceeded to look out the French window. It seemed as if it rained last night, there was a slight morning dew on the greenery. Katerina opened the windows that led to the balcony.
The air was refreshing and made her feel alive. She wasn't wearing any shoes or clothes, the only thing covering her was a thin white sheet.
She cold feel the cold wet floor beneath her, and the gentle breeze slipping in beneath her blanket.
She then went back inside and looked for her phone around the huge room. For some reason, she found it on the sofa in the corner.
She opened the phone with her fingertips and looked at her contact list for the name, Maya. She waited as it rang 4 times.
"Hello?" The person on the phone sounded confused when answering.
"Hey Maya, it's me."
"Yeah no shit Sherlock, didn't you just get married? This is your only free day for the entire month, why are you calling me?"
Katerina paused for a second, and then looked down at the picture on her phone. Damn, this girl is feisty... I like her.
But listening to her previous words about a pack schedule, she couldn't help taking in a deep breath. Is this how it feels to ask your boss for a day off?
"I have a favor to ask."
"...No"
"..." I knew it.
"Please! Is only two days. When have I taken a day off?"
"Every time you don't feel like working, you take a day off."
"No! My memory says I've only done it when I felt sick. Is that what you call, not feeling like working?"
"Yes. Sickness is weakness. I'll pick you up tomorrow at 7. Be rea..."
"I'm with a child."
"...."
Katerina listened to the silence through the phone. She then heard a low laughed. "You moronic whore. Of all the things you could've done, this is what you do!? I've trusted you. We've worked together through thick and thin. I've loved you like a sister, and this is how you repay me?"
Katerina:... well now I feel bad.
"You're misunderstanding. I'm not pregnant. I'm with Jace's child, my stepson. There's suddenly a new person in his life and he must be feeling uncomfortable. I want to spend time with him, so that we could get along."
"Do you want to die?"
"Not in the next two days."
Maya took a deep breath and tried to control her anger. "Katerina, you have an audition tomorrow. The director wants you in the movie, but you have to show you're committed. How's it going to look when you don't even attend an audition that guarantees you a position in the movie."
"Maya"
"...Yes?"
"I'm sick. A shareholder at the company invited me to eat crab, and now I have food poisoning. I will need 1 or 2 days to recover. 2 to be exact. I hope you can explain my situation well, I will see you in two days."
Katerina didn't wait for an answer and quickly ended the call. She looked down at her phone and saw it was 6:37 AM. The little villain left for his piano lessons at eight. Katerina decided to get ready fast, she wanted to send him off as soon as possible and then take a long rest while she try to wrap her head around her situation.
She took a shower first and wrapped herself in a towel. The next thing she needed to do, would signify her actual fear. This wasn't a lucid dream.
She decided to muster up the courage and walked towards the mirror. Her reflection surprised her to some extent, but the thing she couldn't wrap her head around was- She wasn't herself.
She had the slim, queenly figure of a mermaid, and a flawless complexion. She was elf-thin and her lips were lush- a pale seductive red color. She had gleaming, bleach-white teeth and a cherubic smile that gave a hint of mischievous. She had long eyelashes that casted a shadow over her seafoam green eyes. Her hair was midnight-black and it flowed over her shoulders like water from a mountain of beauty. The girl was truly beautiful. No wonder she was scouted young.
Katerina couldn't help but think back to her previous body, it definitely wasn't so beautiful. But, it was hers. Every scar she had, every tear had a memory. Her Auburn brown hair no longer shined with intensity. Her average but pretty face no longer held a look of passion.
She couldn't help but wonder how her family reacted to her death. Her brother always showed a cold exterior, but she new he had a fear of abandonment. That's why he kept his circle so small- and so close.
But now I've left. Just like mom. I betrayed him.
Katerina couldn't help but kneel down, she couldn't handle all this emotions. I'm so stupid.
Tears felt down her eyes as she held her face in her palms. She wanted to get everything out as soon as possible. Life was so short, that she didn't want to sit around all day moping.
Although she felt terrible for dying, she couldn't bring herself to want to go back. She new herself well.
If she lived but became handicapped, she wouldn't have been able to go on. Some people could have, but she couldn't. If she wasn't complete she wasn't herself.
She raised her face and saw the sad expression on the beauty. That was her. That was the new her. The her she had to get used to.
Katerina stood up from the ground, and went to the sink she grabbed an unused toothbrush and threw the expensive packaging on the bin next to her.
The sink was a his and hers sink. With enough space in between to not bother anyone. The floors were a gorgeous marble, and it had both a tub and a shower. Which both looked overly expensive.
Katerina wasn't intimidated by it, in fact, she was comfortable. She was more curious about the products in front of her. As a movie star, Katerina definitely had top class products that allowed her to have such flawless skin.
In her previous life, she definitely took care of her body, but she wasn't overly interested in all the different products recommended to her. No matter what she did someone always said, you're doing it wrong. Therefore, she always only wash and moisturized her face with an overly expensive cleanser and moisturizer.
Yet, Katerina had all kinds of products. She went through her memories and followed her morning routine step by step. Although, she did things differently she had to respect this body. It was hers from here on out.
