Chapter 15 - Learning New Skills

[Character Name: Blumock]

[Level: 17]

[Class: Fighter]

[Sub Class: Alchemist Apprentice]

[HP: 170]

[MP: 100]

[STR: 25/ AGL: 12/ INT: 3/ DEX: 14/ DEF: 17]

[Passive Skills: Insight, Wisdom]

[Active Skills: None]

"This is very depressing. I don't even have any attack skills yet. I am missing a lot! Good thing there are no other players here aside from me. Otherwise, it will rain insults and mockeries." Maria said after reviewing her character stats. "Oh wait--" She suddenly remembered picking up a learning scroll from the Great Hidden Fish. "How could I have forgotten this learning scroll?" She looked in her inventory and retrieved it.

[New Active Skill: Concealment. Do you want to learn it? Y/N]

[Skill Info: If activated, you can hide from your enemy for two minutes. Once the enemy touches or attacks you while using this skill, your concealment will be cancelled.]

"Heh! This was the Great Hidden Fish's skill and now it's mine! Invisibility skill...I can avoid enemies with this. Nice!" Maria learned this new skill. After which she wondered where she could buy regular attack skills. She decided to explore the market central area and look for a skill shop.

"How much is this Power Strike learning skill, please?" she inquired to the store merchant after picking out some learning scrolls from the collection for fighters. The skill storehouse was just next to the blacksmith shop.

"20 gold."

"What? That much? But isn't this just a regular skill for fighters? It is not even rare."

"Take it or leave it, kid. Do you think someone will share their skills with you cheaply?"

It was true. "But the price is too much."

"Who determines if the price is too much or not? Each skill is precious to the owner. However, I am merciful to your ignorance, kid, I will give you a chance. I will give this learning scroll for free if you do something for me."

[Ting.]

[New Quest: Retrieve some yellow wolf skin. Do you accept it? Y/N]

There were two ways to check the information on the quest. One was to ask the NPC who gave the quest for the information or just read it out on the Quest window. You can use the second option even before you accept the quest while the first option is after you accept the quest. Maria rather used the first option since she wanted to build affinity with NPCs.

"Yes, I accept."

[Quest Accepted.]

"Oh, brave kid. I hope you won't die. The yellow wolves can be found outside the western gate. Get me twenty hides. They travel in packs so you might end up dying if you don't have a good plan and not strong enough to handle the wolves. But since you accepted the quest, good luck, kid! I hope you survive."

Maria thought that the merchant was cursing her to die with his tone. She decided to check the town hall bulletin board first to see if there were similar kill quests for the yellow wolves. Two in one. (Isn't that being smart of me? Hehehe.) She looked attentively. "Oh, I found it! Hmm... The request came from a blacksmith. Collect yellow wolf fangs? Oh, so there are two drops from that monster. Or maybe more. Let me accept this as well." Maria checked the map in the town hall to see where the wolves are sighted. She memorized it and embarked on her new quests.

She noticed when she was running towards the west gate, although far from the town hall, she felt light. Her HP was not draining due to fatigue anymore. She inhaled and felt a surge of accomplishment. "My training is being paid off! Hahaha. Look at me, Peter, I am not as lethargic as before." (But could it also be due to my level?) She shrugged and found a pack of wolves from afar.

[Yellow Wolf - Level 18]

[HP: 200]

She's pleasantly surprised that the wolves were just about the same level as hers. Although the gap between her level and the wolves was just a level, she might still be overwhelmed because they travel in packs. She pondered how to tackle this. "If I die again, I am too newb to claim myself a gamer. It will be too embarrassing. What to do?"

She surveyed the area first and tried to kill mobs that are just the same level as hers or lesser but was just on their own. The horned rams were easy to kill because they were docile. They also had fluffy fur drops which could be used to make garments.

[You leveled up.]

(Yay! There is no more level gap with wolves. Oh, wait-- I think I have an idea! Wolves belong to the canine family, could it be that they are also sensitive to smell?) She returned to where the wolves were and noticed an herb patch that the wolves were avoiding. "I have to check what those herbs are. Activate Concealment."

Maria became invisible and quickly went to the spot. When she reached the area, she threw up. "What the heck is this smell? It smells like rotten poo!" She covered her nose. "Oh, could this be the ingredient to stinky balm?" She took out the stinky balm from her inventory. "Analyze."

[Your wisdom level is too low.]

"Eh? Crap! I must increase my wisdom points to be able to analyze the components of an alchemy item, is that it? Naturally, since I am an alchemist, I am entitled to that, right?" Not anyone can analyze ingredients of potions, balms, or pills unless she had the right profession or subclass.

She rolled her body on the patch of herbs. But when the leaves crushed to her skin, the odour became intense that she vomited again. "WTF! To think my sensitivity is 30% of the real senses. This is my curse!" When the effect of concealment skill expired, she went after a pack of yellow wolves. Surprisingly, the wolves surrounded her but didn't attack her. It as if they were afraid to get close to her.

[Your Wisdom leveled up.]

"Heh! I am a genius! Pfft! It was this rotten odour!" She revealed her crystal dagger and started attacking one of the wolves that were nearest to her. She could hear it wimping. "Good thing I already switched the sensitivity setting to very low. Otherwise, the stink will be unbearable." Having adrenalin of being OP right now, she went berserk using her regular attack and killed as many wolves as she could. She took HP potions whenever her HP dropped too low. Although the wolves still displayed resistance that caused damage to her, they were not too aggressive because of the smell. Of course, to a normal gamer, this was an easy feat. Since Maria was a mediocre gamer, it was only possible to conquer because of her sheer luck and a little bit of intelligence.

When she gained a total of 3 levels, she stopped hunting the wolves. Her collection of fangs and hides were also achieved. The wolves dropped an armor and a set of gloves. Although they were of normal quality, they were better than nothing, so Maria was super satisfied and equipped them.
