Sure enough, the rain finally falls and it comes down hard. Unlike a summer rain, this rain was cold and it brought with it a chilling wind. We close up the doors and only leave the windows slightly cracked as we continue our dinner in peace.
Thane's leg rests against mine as we eat with the others. They talk and laugh, sharing stories of the others while the sound of the rain outside continues to fall. Even though it's growing colder, my heart continues to fill with warmth.
Looking at their laughing faces, I feel myself smiling. When I look over to Thane, I find him even smiling as he watches me. A shared, knowing smile is passed between us before going back to eating. This was it. This was all I need in life.
Cali fills my cup of water and asks "Where have you two been all day?" I blink up at her before saying "We were busy." She gives me a knowing smirk as her eyes dart back and forth between Thane and I.
