Mia and Lucell sprung out of bed and headed outside to see what was causing the commotion. As they arrived they could see the townsfolk battling in the streets. A horde of undead had made its way into the town as well as a few wolf men. Mia and Lucell looked at each other and nodded. With that they rushed out to support the villagers. Lucell found a discarded sword on the ground and used that. While Mia located a mace. This was the first time in a long time that Mia had to fight without her magic and the first time Lucell had ever fought without his.
"Travelers!" One of the fighting villagers yelled out. "You should get to safety! It is far too dangerous out here!" The man who was yelling had gotten himself surrounded. The undead were attracted to his yelling. Mia and Lucell jumped into the fray, Mia started by bashing the head clean off of an attacker while Lucell cleaved several into two. Not to be outdone the villager bashed an undead with his shield followed by a kick to another and then a slash with his sword to another. "I see you two can handle yourselves." He said while catching his breath. "Thank you for the assistance. I am Karl, it is a pleasure to meet you."
"Likewise Karl." Mia said while trying to get her mace out of a skull. "This kind of thing happen often here?" She asked.
"I would say at least once a month." Karl answered. "We have gotten used to the constant attacks, so it's just another day for us."
"That's terrible!" Mia responded. "Incoming! Looks like a wolf is on its way over."
"Be careful if it bites you, it will curse you!" Karl warned. "You will become one of its kind, it is a cruel fate."
A large menacing wolf man approached them. It was battle hardened with scars all over its body including a missing eye. Its other eye glowed with an eerie yellow hue. It looked Mia over and howled. "Woman! You be mine!" It shouted.
"It talked!" Mia was shocked. "Wait is it after me?"
Lucell then stood between Mia and the wolf. "I shall not let you lay a single paw upon Miss Mia." Lucell said in his most commanding voice. Lucell then charged the best and swung his sword towards the beast's torso. The beast blocked it with his arm and the blade became lodged in the forearm of the wolf. Lucell tried as he might to free the blade from the wolf's arm, but he was unable to. The wolf then took his arm and backhanded Lucell and sent him flying through multiple buildings.
"Lucy!" Mia screamed.
"Miss there's no time!" Karl shouted. "You have to run and get out of here! I will try and buy you as much time as I can." With that Karl charged the wolf. He used his shield to block a blow from the wolf; however the force of the blow caused the shield to become dented and worthless. Karl then discarded his shield and gripped his sword with both his hands. Karl charged again, this time sliding between the wolf's legs and slicing his inner thigh causing the wolf to start to bleed immensely. This caused the wolf to cry out in pain and turn its full attention onto Karl. "Come at me you big dog. You are not the first wolf I have fought and you won't be the last."
Mia did not run for her life. Instead she made her way to Lucell to check on his condition. "Lucy are you still with me?" Mia asked with tears in her eyes. "Lucy please wake up." She said as she held his hand next to her head.
Lucell finally awoke from his unconsciousness. "Miss Mia, you need to get out of here." Lucell struggled to say as he coughed up blood. "Without our magic we are no match against that thing."
"Lucy!" Mia rejoiced. "I am so happy you aren't dead! Here I'll help you up, we will get away together."
"No you must leave me!" Lucell commanded. "I wont die from this and I will meet with you later. Right now I would just slow you down. You need to run!"
Karl and the wolf were still going at it. Karl would dodge and counter every attack the wolf made, while attacking during any other openings he could find. Despite all the damage he had inflicted on the wolf; however, the wolf seemed to not be slowing down at all. Each wound healed shortly after it had been inflicted. "Curse you! You damned dog!" Karl shouted in his frustration. "You're a damn alpha. That is the only thing that explains why you heal so damn fast." Karl noticed Mia was still there, which angered him. "Why have you not run away yet!?" He yelled.
This caused the wolf to refocus on Mia. "Woman!" He howled. The wolf then dashed toward Mia on all four legs at incredible speed. Biting on to her arm and slinging her onto its back as he ran away. With that the other wolves and the horde of undead left the village.
"Damn woman." Karl said under his breath. "She didn't run like I told her to now she is bitten. If only she had listened." Karl then went to check on Lucell who had passed out once again. "I guess I should get this guy to a medic, damn I hate giving bad news. Hopefully someone else will tell him when he wakes up."
The wolf continued to run across the land with an unconscious Mia on his back. The curse had caused her pass out. She was still awake inside of her inner mind however and Tolvash and Aquir were informing her of her situation. "Looks bad human." Aquir said. "This is a pretty high level curse, but have no fear Aquir is here!"
"Can you do anything about the curse Aquir?" Mia asked, worried that she would become a monster.
"If we were back on our own world, it wouldn't be an issue." Aquir answered. "I suspect if you manage to get back to our own world I will be able to cure you no problem."
"I feel like there's a but." Mia answered.
"Well I can weaken it." Aquir said. "You would lose your senses, or become a beast. Actually you'll be able to regenerate like you saw it do fighting Karl. You should also gain inhuman strength as well as a incredible sense of smell."
"Ok that doesn't sound too bad, actually sounds helpful." Mia answered. "So what's the catch."
"I can't stop all of the physical changes." Aquir answered.
"Oh no, am I a monster now?!" Mia was horrified.
"No, no." Aquir replied. "You do have wolf ears and a tail now though. Also your eyes are yellow, and you can grow claws."
"So I am some sort of wolf girl now?" Mia asked. "But you said you can cure me if we get back to our world right?"
"I think I can." Aquir answered. "If not I am sure the Goddess will cure you, unless she finds you cute this way."
"That's disconcerting." Mia responded. "Oh well, my stupid fault for getting bitten. I should have just ran away like Karl asked me to." Mia said with a sigh. "I hope Lucy is okay."
The wolf had finally made it back to its den. Upon arriving inside he tossed Mia onto the ground. She was quickly surrounded by several wolves. "This woman new mate." The alpha spoke. "No one touch her but me."
"Alpha, she broken." Another wolf answered. "Look at her, she only grow ears and tail."
"That strange." The alpha responded. "Why she no turn wolf?"
With that the dawn broke and transformed all the wolves back into their human selves. They looked around at each other and knew what must have happened the night before. When the wolves transform they lose themselves and have no memory of what happened. They all notice Mia laying on the ground. "Shit, we cursed another person." The man who was the alpha spoke. "Why can't we break this curse. I hate harming innocent people. We moved all the way out here in hopes that our inner wolves would not find the town, but this girl was taken nevertheless and it looks like the curse is messed up in her. She still has a tail and ears. She should be back to human now." The other wolves were in agreement. They had never seen someone not revert. "I suppose we will just have to ask her about it when she wakes up. Let's all get dressed, get some clothes for the new girl too she is only in her undergarments. I really hope I didn't do anything to her."
