Mia was excited after hearing what the lesson plan was for the day. She had only heard of magic as myths from the church. It was said demons were able to cast spells, but a human had never been able to achieve such a feat. She was beside herself at the fact she would get to learn magic.
"Magic is all around us." Jasper started. "It is the mana that is within everything that the Goddess has created. The ability to use magic is simply the ability to harness the power left behind by the Goddess." This caused Yen to raise her hand with a question. "Yes Yen, what is it?"
"So, the Goddess gives us the magic?" Yen asked.
"That's a good question." Replied Jasper. "It's not that the Goddess gives us the magic herself, more like she has left fingerprints on everything she created. Echoes of her own power if you will. The more time she spent on a creation the more of an echo it has. That is why we demons have such a strong affinity for magic. Our combat forms would not be possible without the aid of magic." This caused Yan to raise her hand. "Yes Yan." Jasper asked.
"What do you mean we need magic?" Yan asked. "We can shapeshift without magic just fine."
"Yes, we can take on different forms." Jasper acknowledged. "However, strengthening your claws enough to cut steel, or fortifying your skin to block attacks. All come from magic. As for females, hiding your horns and changing your skin color comes from magic as well." Jasper pulled out an orb from his desk. "As I said before, everything has an echo. This device measures how much of that echo you have in your body, or rather your affinity to use magic. Just because our race has a high affinity, does not mean we are all capable of casting combat magic. On the contrary, mages among our race are extremely rare. It takes an incredibly unique echo to be a combat mage, such as the Queen."
"Wow I didn't know the Queen was a mage type!" Shrill shouted. "That's just so cool!"
"Yes, our Queen is quite amazing." Jasper agreed. "Not only does she possess the ability to cast spells, but her intellect is on a level that simply scares me. Back to the matter at hand." Jasper picked up the orb and it had a faint glow. "As you can see the orb is now glowing, we can tell by the color and by the strength of the glow both my type of echo and its power."
"Yours is red what does that mean?" Yen asked.
"Red means my magic is suited for fortification." Jasper answered. "Basically, I am able to make my skin sturdier and resist attacks; however, as you can see it is extremely faint when I hold it. That means my magical power is very weak, so I cannot make a strong fortification. If General Lucell were to hold this orb it would glow as a red sun. His magic power is immense and that causes him to be basically impenetrable."
"That's amazing!" Yan shouted. "So, he can make his rock-hard bod even harder! I think I just fell deeper in love."
Jasper laughed at Yan's innocence. "I will now pass the orb around the room and we will see what each of you are capable of." Jasper walked over to Yen and handed her the orb. In Yen's hand the orb glowed a blue hue and was only slightly brighter than Jasper's. "Very good Yen, blue is the color of stealth magic, with training you will be able to completely seal your presence and be able to sneak around with ease. My sister has the same ability." Jasper then walked over to Yan and handed her the orb. In Yan's hands the orb was blue again and glowed slightly brighter still. "No surprise that you are blue as well since you are twins, I am surprised that you have slightly more magic than your sister though." Next Jasper gave the orb to Shrill. In his hands the orb turned red and had a decent glow to it. "Very nice Shrill! You will be a strong soldier one day! Who knows maybe one day you will be able to serve under our great General Lucell." It was Greer's turn next and the orb changed to a green color with a strong glow. "Oh, that's rare!" Jasper was excited. "Green is the recovery color, not only will you be able to self-regenerate, but you will also be able to speed the healing of others. Truly a rare gift!" With that Jasper walked back to his desk with the orb.
"Excuse me, Professor!" Yen shouted. "You skipped Mia!"
"Oh right." Jasper acted like he simply forgot. "I'm sorry Mia, I don't think the orb will even react to you though. I have never heard of a human being able to use magic. I mean I am sure you have an echo, but it's probably too faint to even see."
"Even still, may I please try it?" Mia asked with a puppy dog look on her face. "I would really like to see if I have magic."
Jasper sighed, "Fine." As soon as Japer handed Mia the orb it reacted. It shown with a blinding white light that encompassed the entire building and shot out of the windows in giant beams of light. Those beams traveled across the village and lit the entire forest with a bright white light. There was not a demon in the village who did not see the glow. In fact, the closest human village to the forest saw light shoot out from around the trees, which caused them all to panic and run into their homes. "HOLY SHIT!" Jasper yelled as he yanked the orb out of Mia's hands. With that the entire class was unable to see, which scared the young demons.
"I can't see!" Yen and Yan yelled out.
"My eyes!" Shrill shouted.
"Calm down children!" Jasper shouted trying to regain control. "That was amazing. Simply amazing. Mia is a combat magic type! And that glow! That glow was just incredible!" Every misgiving that Jasper had about Mia evaporated. He was just so impressed at what he had witnessed that he was in shock.
"I didn't break it did I?" Mia asked, concerned about the orb.
"Who cares!" Jasper yelled. "We can always make a new orb."
Just then Morain barged in the room. "Was that?" she shouted.
"It was!" Jasper yelled back with his eyes still closed.
"Well Miss Mia, I figured you'd have a strong echo after everything the Goddess did to you, but damn!" Morain told Mia. "I will personally take over your training."
"Really?!" Mia asked. "But what about Sabrina. I wouldn't want to upset her."
"Oh, I am fine with it short stack." Sabrina said as she entered the room. "I can't hope to teach you how to use your magic. That's a job best left up to Moory here."
"Please don't call me that Sabrina, I am still your Queen." Morain scolded Sabrina. "Less you want me to start using your nickname as well."
"I am sorry my Queen!" Sabrina said as she quickly bowed.
"Oh, this is exciting!" Morain was overcome with joy. "I get to train the most powerful mage in history!"
"I'm the most powerful mage in history?" Mia questioned while pointing to herself.
"Hell yes." Morain answered. "Well Jasper I think your class is over for the day. Can't very well teach blind."
"Yes, my Queen." Jasper answered with a bow. "Class dismissed for the day."
"Sabrina take Mia home to Lucell, Mage training starts tomorrow!" Morain said gleefully.
"My queen, she still has another class day before she trains again." Sabrina interjected.
"I am the Queen and I say mage training is tomorrow!" Morain snapped back. "I will teach her things, while I teach her magic, so it will be fine!"
"Yes, my Queen." Sabrina bowed and took Mia home to Lucell.
