Chapter 20 - Part 9 - First Case

Thanatos entered his office. I followed behind him. Just like the entire building, his office is in shades of purple. The only difference is the comfy-looking white chairs and the brown oak desk. In it is a desk lamp, a couple of papers scattered around, but pretty neat, and a pot of poppy flowers.

As Thanatos sits on his chair, I noticed the ghost that I was going to help. It was Mizumi Yamato. The girl who I saw dead in the upper residential area. She got up from her seat and approached me with a shocked expression. "You're the guy that called the ambulance!"

She held my hand and kept shaking it. "Thank you so much!"

"Ah, no problem," I said as I smile, rubbing the back of my head.

"Please," Thanatos motioned his hand on the seats. "Take a seat."We both took a seat in the chairs. At this moment, Thanatos seems pretty serious.

"So, as you have already known," He motioned at her. "This is Mizumi Yamato, the girl you saw die in a street in the upper residential area. She's a third-year at Rabenda University and lives in the dorms there. Her cause of death was blunt force trauma. She received the blow as she was being robbed. As of 7 in the morning today, the culprit has been discovered and arrested."

I looked at Mizumi. For someone who heard the reason of her death, she seems calm and chill.

"Ms. Yamato," Thanatos says as he looks at her. "What could seem the reason why you still remain here dwelling with the humans? Is there an unfinished business you still have to do?"

She suddenly looked down, acting shy and embarrassed.

"Why, what's wrong?" I asked.

"I haven't told my crush how I feel about him." She said it in such a low voice that we barely heard it.

"I'm sorry, come again?" Thanatos asked.

She repeated it, this time, a little louder, but not loud enough.

"I'm going to have to ask you to repeat it because we couldn't understan-"

"I HAVEN'T TOLD MY CRUSH HOW I FEEL ABOUT HIM!" Realizing that she yelled what she said, she looked down in embarrassment, the blush in her face visible.

"Oh, I see. Is that it?" Thanatos asked seriously.

"Yes," She immediately replied. "You see, I've been spending a lot of time with him. I keep giving him hints and all that, but he still doesn't get it! Sometimes, it's not even a hint anymore! He's such an idiot! Hmmph!" She pouts and crossed her arms.

Thanatos leaned in towards me and whispered, "Is this what the kids call 'Tsundere' these days?"

"I guess?" I whispered back.

Thanatos sat straight. "So, what do you want to do?"

"Well," She placed a finger in her chin. "I already planned a confession. I wrote him a letter, telling him everything about my feelings toward him. Every thought and feelings were written there."

"Okay," I joined in. "Where is this letter?"

"Umm, it's in my dorm. I have no roommate so you can just sneak in there."

I feel like I'm doing a wrong thing here... But hey, if it helps her, it helps.

I asked her again. "And your crush, he also lives in the dorms?"

"Yes, I think, in House 13."

"House? I thought it was dorms?" Thanatos asked.

"Well, yeah. The dorms are kind of like an apartment. There are bedrooms, a small kitchen and dining room, and one bathroom. The ones on the ground floor are called 'Houses' since they look like residential houses from the outside, but the rooms above are called 'Rooms'."

"Ahh, I see. Thank you, Kazu."

Thanatos looks at Mizumi. "So, shall we do this now?"

She nods. "Yes."

"Okay," I stood up from my seat. "Let's go."

"Oh, okay," She also got up and followed me.

"Good luck Kazu!" Thanatos smiles.

I smiled back. "Thank you."

We got out of his office and started my job.
