Many years ago
Alfred Dean Hartman is the new kid from Boston, Massachusetts moving to a quiet neighborhood of Sterling Ridge, New York. Sterling Ridge is somewhat a upper middle class to the upper class neighborhood, where many know each other. It's away from the bustling and loud crowds that New York has to offer.
"You are going to love this neighborhood here, Alfred. I can tell this where we are having so many memories that will last a long time, son" His dad said, placing the box down.
"I want to go home." Alfred's muffled voice said. "Alfred, this is home." His mother, trying to comfort him. In a fitting tantrum. "I want to go back to my real home! Why did we move here! I want my old friends back!"
"Alfred, we moved here because of dad's job, dear. This job means that you could buy anything for you. Anything you want, new toys even." Alfred wasn't unfazed by his mother's explanation, he was determined to try his way of persuading them to come back to Boston. "I have friends there!" He yelled back.
"You can make more tomorrow on your first day of school." Again, Alfred got himself into a tantrum and was sent to his room, cried the whole night.
When morning came, it's the first day of school, what every parents dreads for their kids try to make some friends and do well in his classes. Alfred woke up and went down to eat breakfast. He was quiet, nothing to say to his parents. "Are you excited for your new school?" His dad questioned. Again didn't say anything to answer the question. After breakfast, his mother tried got Alfred dressed up.
They drove off to his school and Alfred looked at his window, orange leaves started to fall down at the road and it looked very much beautiful to see. Then the car halted in front the school, a large school appeared in Alfred's vision, which shocked him in many ways. "Are you ready?" His mother questioned.
He didn't say anything, but they did get out of the car, holding his brown lunch bag and his colorful backpack on him. Nervousness started to set in for little Alfred and wanted to run back.
"Hello Mr and Mrs. Hartman, please sign this here and you could wait here for the new teacher to come in." The secretary said. His dad signed the paper and waited inside the waiting room.
"Hello Mr. and Mrs. Hartman!" The teacher greeted. "And you must be Alfred Dean Hartman." He only waved hello to the teacher. "My name is Ms. Anderson, but call me Ms.A!"
Miss Anderson took them to her classroom, as much as Alfred was nervous, his parents too were worried about their little son, not socializing or not making any friends. "Here we are now, Alfred, you want to say good bye to your mom and dad? " She questioned.
He looked up, "Bye mom and dad. I'll see you later." He said, giving them both a kiss. He went inside the classroom, "Miss Anderson, please take good care of our son. He's a bit shy and also quite upset with us moving from Boston to here." His dad said.
"Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on Alfred's behavior and his academics here. I will let you know if anything happens." They shocked her hands and headed out, still that anxiety that lingers around.
Miss Anderson go the students attention, "Class, we have a new student coming all the way from Boston," She exclaimed, "Please say hi to Alfred Dean!"
"Hi Alfred." They greeted in unison.
"Hi Alfred Dean!" That voice stood out to the young boy and looked up, to see a girl, smiling jovially. Her black hair was tied into a ponytail, skin was almost fair. When she smiled, her teeth were somewhat filled with cavities but eyes were gleaming in innocence. "Miss Anderson, can he sit with me?" The girl questioned.
"Of course Cara! Alfred would you like to sit next to Cara there?" She questioned. With no hesitation, "Yes." Miss Anderson escorted him to his new found seat. "My name is Cara Evangeline Dietrich, I hope we can be friends!" She exclaimed.
Cara is a gifted student, which prompted her to skip a grade from a kindergarten to the second grade, by the age of 6. They thought that socializing would be a great problem to the young girl, but they were wrong. The jovial side of her came out instantly, wanting to be friends with everyone that she sees and meets.
After school, his parents came inside the room and saw that their son is playing with a girl.
"Alfred!" They called his name, making him stand up. "Mom, Dad! I would like to meet my new friend!" He exclaimed. Cara waved hello to his parents, "Hello Mr. and Mrs. Hartman," She greeted them, "my name is Cara Evangeline Dietrich."
"Hello Cara, it's great to meet you." They greeted.
"Mr and Mrs. Hartman, I would just love to say that your son, is doing very well in class and as you can see, has made a new friend here." She exclaimed. From there too, his parents love Cara and her parents had also met with her family too.
Ever since then, they were inseparable and there is no one that they can keep them apart. Cara protects Alfred from anyone who might be in danger of him or even try to bully him. Everyone in the school always poke fun of them being together.
"Alfred and Cara are sitting in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!" Their peers yelled. "BE QUIET WE ARE NOT TOGETHER!"
When it came to secondary school, something change for Alfred, Besides that he has grown to be more good looking that has gotten the attention of many. Blue eyes, tall, and that smile, he didn't see Cara as a friend but more than that.
Cara bloomed slowly, a flowing black, semi tanned skin and that beautiful smile, that captured many hearts.
When he told his parents his feelings, they thought that this would only past by, but unfortunately, that didn't work out.
He was head over heels for his best friend, but at the same time, he was far too scared to break up the friendship between them.
When high school came rolling in, his feelings intensified for Cara. But with his growing popularity of becoming a star basketball player and his peers all admiring him.
Despite this growing popularity around him, he remained Cara his best friend. He tried to date others, well in his mind, to get over his feelings for her. But that didn't really last long as well.
Then it's the last year of high school, the last years to have fun and be where they are now in society. And they are close to graduating high school, but before that, the whole senior class go on a trip to Alaska. It was a beautiful spring day, glacier had been melted away and fresh air is much more cleaner than back in New York.
Sun sets down and now they are around the bonfire, talking about the memories of their school lives. Alfred is still buzzing about not only winning the championship for his school.
"Hey Alfred, what school are you going?" His teammates questioned. "Cornell. Can just drive up and down from here to there." Alfred replied back. "That's great man, on a basketball scholarship?"
"Not only for basketball, but full scholarship." He replied back. They all cheered for him, but he was fixated on Cara, hanging out with her other friends. "Still looking beautiful as ever." He muttered softly.
"You are still looking at your best friend there?" One of his buddies, Arthur said. "What made you say that." He replied back defensively.
"Look, everyone here knows that you are so in love with Cara Evangeline Dietrich. No matter how many women that you date, you cannot get your mind off of her!" He exclaimed. Alfred stayed quiet, and now it's the start of telling their fondest memories together now. Everyone is felling happy and some kind of in a mood for something but as for Cara, she was quiet, not her usual self.
Cara left the bonfire first, grabbing her guitar. She walked around the camp for a while, finally settling down at dock nearby and sat down. Strumming her guitar as fast as she could, to ease her sadness away.
Then she heard a twig branch break and she stood up, slowly dropping the guitar on the floor. Her fist are automatically closed and almost ready to kick anyone. The person came out of the dark, "Al!"
"I swear to the Lord above, you should stop sneaking up on me." He laughed at her, "What are you doing around here?" He questioned. "Nothing, just needed to get out and have a thought moment first." She replied back.
Cara grabbed her guitar and sat down next to Alfred. "So which school are you going to?" She questioned. "I'm going to Cornell, got a full scholarship there," He replied back to her question, "how about you? Have you thought of which college you are going to?"
She stayed quiet for a while, "did you not get your acceptance letter yet?"
"I'm accepted to MIT." Cara replied back. Alfred eyes lit up, "that's great Cara! I knew you're going to do it!"
"But you are going to be in Ithaca and I'll be in Cambridge, we're not going to be together like we are used to," She expressed, "are you okay like this?"
"I'll be okay Cara, don't worry about me too much, at this day and age, we have this new invention called the Internet." He did something with his hand, which brightened Cara a little. "This internet here can connect people far and wide!"
"I think I get that Al." She replied back, returning a smile. "See I like to see you always happy and please don't worry me too much, I can handle anything." They both hugged it out together and the rest of the night, just chilling and enjoy each other's company.
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray," She sang, "You'll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away."
