Chapter 44 - Pure and Utter Disgust

From the summit of Mount Dragspear, I leap into the air and spread my wings wide. While I'm not truly flying, my descent is slow enough that it at least feels like I am. From down below I see many small dots moving about and looking up towards me. I feel that it would be quite a sight if I was purple instead of blue, although it wouldn't change anything, I just think purple would look better for a dragon gliding through the air. Now, I might not know where I'm going, but I'm fairly certain it's in the general direction of one of the marked areas. Not that I was even going to go out of my way too actually to fight one of the marked monsters, I'll just guys take out some of the little guys that are around, maybe check out some of the restaurants in a nearby town and make a run for it. Not like I have any money to pay for anything... not that I would pay for it anyway. Wait, can I even transform again? Taking a quick look, I find that I am indeed able to use my humanoid form again for another 21 hours. So if I end the transformation early it will hold onto the remaining time, that's nice.

The rate at which I descend is slow enough that it takes an hour before I return to the ground and Mount Dragspears is no longer within sight... where am I? If anything I can tell that I'm in a steppe region, so I should still be within Milla's sphere of influence, so if I find someone I can probably get them to tell me where Mount Dragspear is. For now, I should just look for things to kill, needing 2,000 experience just for level two is a big leap from before, but I think it should still be doable with a day or two... maybe three.

I can start by looking arou-- what the hell is that! It didn't take long for me to find something I want to remove from my sight, no, something I want to remove from my memory. The sheer feelings of disgust I get from simply looking at the grotesque figure of this monster is enough to make me want to kill my self if I had to look at this thing for too long. What's worse is that there is a whole colony of them. At first glance the seem like giant rats, when compared to a regular one, standing as tall as a child. But their bodies are devoid of any fur, and their skin is decaying to the point where some flesh and bones are visible. Their teeth too seem as if they are rotting, and don't even get me started on that smell. Once I'm done with this I'm gonna need some hard stuff, wonder if I could get anything like spyritus around here.

I don't even bother to use my Draconic Insight on this monstrosity, lest it leaves a larger imprint upon my memory. Of course, they had long since noticed my appearance from the sky and quickly surrounded me in an orderly fashion, quickly beginning to charge at me. These things seem a little too smart and organised for a bunch of half-dead looking giant rats. But why does it feel like they have absolutely no fear of me? Sure they may be big for rats, but I'm even larger than them, they should at least show a little bit of hesitation.

Opening my mouth wide, I launch a Flame Breath, scorching the land and the rats with it, but for some reason, they show no change in action and continue to run at me. But despite my efforts to burn them all to ash, there just doesn't seem like there is an end to their numbers. For every one I kill, four more rise up from underground burrows, continuing the rat cavalry charge in place of the fallen.

This endless charge ends up going on for a whole hour before the rats showed any signs of decreasing numbers. I haven't remained unscathed in all this either. With so many of them surrounding me, there is basically no way I can avoid taking some hits. On the bright side, their damage is mainly in the form of poison, and I even had my weak resist upgrade to Medium Poison Resist. But I still lost around 700 HP, not ideal but it could have been worse, we take those.

But just when I finally thought this nightmare was over, a robed figure appears in the distance, and behind him is another horde of rats...
