Chereads / The Element Academy / Chapter 2 - -2 The Arrival

Chapter 2 - -2 The Arrival

After I had fixed my hair into a tight, but tidy bun, I then slipped into my dress that I had chose to wear the day before, it was a baby blue colour with a splash of white and silver at the brim, it was like spasms of frost were was crawling up it, and oh how movable it was, not like any other dress I had worn, all stiff and frilly. One would say it's an improvement!

My mother had fallen asleep with her pet Gel, a snow rabbit all the way from the from the Northern water tribe. She'd gotten the rabbit as a present many years before I was born, as a ceremonial gift.

I looked out of the window and saw little children waving at our carriage, I propped open the window and waved back, and how happy the smiles were on their faces, the

y myst of wondered who I was in my fancy carriage, sat on the paved streets playing hopscotch. As I sat there, I thought about my memories of my childhood. Many of them happy and joyful, others depressing and unfortunate.

One of these hellfire includes when me and my late older brother (Daniel) visited my Nanna Linnet who lived in the Aries woods, and

what a house she had! It was perched in a big hollow tree with carved fireplaces, benches and an endless supply of cocoa.

But one fateful day in November, I ruined everything...

Little, three year old Lumi had crossed the boarder and ventured further then I should of into the dangerous boreal forest. It was my brother noticed I had disappeared for my Nanna was in her beloved kitchen and he snook his way out and came looking for me. What a mistake.

As he trudged through the pearly white, untouched, snow, a faint cry rang through tree-tops.Me. He called out into the night, "Lumi!" he called again,"Lumi, this is not funny!"" his voice was loud and worried.

Behind me I heard footsteps and turned my head, I could see absolutely nothing in the deep forest infront of me. The footsteps returned, they were more loud this time and quite close. I waited. And waited. The footsteps came from only one direction, right infront of me, behind a large boulder. I sat huddled in snow not knowing what to do next. At this young age I had not begun to learn how to use my elemental powers or how to defend myself properly so I was quite useless otherwise with defense.

Suddenly, out of the blue, came a claw, as big as a knife and as sharp as a blade, it swiped through the air as fast as the eye can see. I felt my face burn like a face-ful of hot ash. I sat up, frozen in shock. A couple seconds later, tears started forming in my eyes, and as they raced down my face the salt in them made my searing wounds burn even worse, then they stopped and froze, stuck to my face.

The monster struck again and when it did, I fell. There I lie amongst the snow and ice, at that moment I was gone, my soul slid out of me like it was filled with hellium, into the pale, moonlit sky above.

About fifteen minutes later, my brother found me, as white as the snow he knelt on. Following that memory is the things I was told happened next, after Daniel told my Nanna what happened, I got taken to the nearest healer. She sent and snowy owl to my mother who sent an instant reply, and came to me half an hour later, on an icicle brimmed sled with my father. The healers tried everything, herbs, salts even an ancient medicine, but none of which helped. After hours of treatment and close care, the healer broke the news to my mother. I was dead. She then grabbed a hold of my father and cried deeply into his chest, for minutes on end, not coming up for air. For the next eleven evenings, my mother pleaded to the Godess of the moon to save her beloved child

A couple days later, my brother was diagnosed with pneumonia, he refused to fight the rare and terrible disease, I've was told that his last words were, "I will take care of her Mother, watch her grow, I am the heir to the tribe and your only son, I hope you are proud", and my mother held on until the pulse in his wrist faded and he was stone dead. He was gone and my mother new it, but she stayed with him until it was time to say goodbye properly. Apparently, I was to be sent out far to sea in a wicker basket, adorned with vibrant flowers, but my brother would be buried like all others in the village, with a grave. I'm not sure how my mother and father coped losing both of their children in around 2 weeks. It must of been a hard time for the both of them. But for my older brother who died for me and wished to take care of me, the most.

When the day came for my funeral, miracle happened.

I was lying on a carved-ice table, my mother and father huddled in a corner as the healers fed me clear icy water, and coloured my cheeks with powder so I looked appealing for the afterlife. "Mrs Chàton, if you wish to say your goodbyes now is the time", After about 2 minutes with my mother, I felt a terrific shock. My heart had started. The beats were getting quicker now. My mother didn't notice this as she prayed.I opened my eyes, and colour flooded back into my cheeks. I let out a whimper. My mother opened her eyes and staggered backwards, grasping onto the table with support. She came to her senses and looked again, my long brown hair was slowly turning a pale white colour, my mother crouched down and tears poured out of her eyes. She must of been thinking what had happened. "D-darling, is that you?" she stumbled. I started to cry. My mother jumped up and cradle me in her arms, "The moon Goddess has returned my daughter's soul with her own, people of Vienna we shall have a Queen once again!" She rushed to the graveyard where she found mourners in black and grey clothing morning for my brother. "Cedric! Cedric! It's Lumi, she has been awoken! Cedric!" And apparently after that we celebrated and had balls for 3 days straight, and it became a tradition to worship the goddess of the moon on my that particular day.

As we turned around the corner my mother stood up. She was ready aswell, but by the look on her face you could tell she was nervous. You see after my brother died and I was told his story I fell extremely ill. "I've never seen her using her powers since the day Daniel died", my father had told me.

"Mother", I said " Don't worry, I will write to you when I can, I promise"

"Thankyou Lumi, I care for you so much" she said pulling me into a hug and planting a kiss on my cheek.

A knock on our carriage door made us separate, our footman, Michael had come to inform us that we had arrived,

"Mrs Chàton,Princess Lumi, what should I address you as when you step out into the courtyard"he asked me.

I thought for a second,

"Michael please address me as, Princess Lumi Chàton of the Southern Water Tribe"

He replied, "Certainly your Miss" he then looked at my mother and said, " Same old, same old Madam Chàton?"

"Yes, thankyou Micheal", she replied

He left and with a rumble, the carriage started the long way towards the hidden entrance to the Academy.
