A 3hr flight, a1hr ship cruise and finally a 2hr train ride was all it took to get to ascension islands, quite a long tiresome journey though with the spa and sauna services, it didn't seem so stressful to get to this island for the Adams. It was quite dark, Muriel and Charles didn't even have a chance to walk about the house, their luggage was taken up to their rooms and she just fell on her California king bed which had just been imported two days ago.
It was just 7am, why did the alarm have to be so loud, too late for an apology, the damage had already been done she was up, just lying on her back staring at the floral ceiling, though her mind wasn't focussed on it, the curtains had delayed to be opened and why wasn't anyone running in to check her temperature or wish her a Good morning, Anna wasn't the kind to forget especially that it had been a daily routine for years. After a few seconds, the ceiling came to vision, she was on the island. She threw on her peach robe and went downstairs. The house was small, really small compared to the one she had called home, it was a cottage, but there was a calming effect from the atmosphere, the soft yet scented breeze and the sight of other cottages amidst the silence. She had been used to the sounds of hooting cars and journalists reading news, she had loved it coz it made her think of life as a racing ground, it kinda motivated her to be busy. The house in Dakota was in isolation, she barely saw neighbours if there was any, but this cottage had neighbouring cottages a few meters apart all built with white sea stones, and had small but beautiful marble walkways. The porches were sort of colourful and surrounded with different tulips though next to theirs were white roses and also a wave of purple irises, they had been her mother's favourite a reason why a third of the backyard in dakota had been filled with them. 'You like it?' Charles interrupted her survey, he held a mug of hot chocolate towards her while he sipped on his own. 'To be honest, it's not that bad, it's just too floral, though i love the air' she took a deep breath 'very fresh' he smiled
'And its really quiet, are there any people on this island?' The silence had finally gotten to her. 'Oh I forgot to say, everyone is attending church, up on the hills.' Charles was looking at the rolling hills, they weren't far though and she could see the building. Church!!, seriously, how do these people get much time to relax like this, she kept thinking to herself. When had she last gone to church, she couldn't even recall, well it was on her mother's funeral. What an ugly cold day it had been, anything church was related to coldness, loneliness and death. She felt a shiver run through her. 'Make friends, lots of good people' Charles placed his arm around her shoulder before he kissed her head and then walking away before he turned back 'there's lots of seemingly good boys too, but they're evil. .... ok it's a joke, catch feels whenever but i must meet them first'
'Dad u aint meeting anyone soon, more so an island boy' she laughed lightly
'Its easy being your dad, though don't just push them all away, kick their butts terribly' they both laughed, before he proceeded, he had some old friends to meet and a few deals to check so that meant a lot of alone time to Muriel.
She threw on a white transparent chiffon dress exposing her black shorts and black bra, soft wooden sandals were ok.
She walked out slowly taking in every sight slowly. The walk way was filled with flowers at the sides she thought it was kind of exaggerated. The island was made up of a number cottages each surrounded with different tulips, lush green escarpments, small water springs and the beach! The palm trees falling at one side, the white sand beneath her feet was all relaxing. She had never breathed air this clean. She walked a distance slowly yet aimlessly till she was standing infront of the green-blue ocean, it was one of the islands that had such clear water that you could see it's earth bed on a fine day especially near the shores. The mild waves were teasing her feet, as though calling her into the water. 'Its beautiful right?' Someone interrupted her thoughts, she turned, her eyes met with a girl almost her age, with round beautiful eyes and chestnut hair. 'Julie, and your Muriel' she extended her hand with a bright smile. Muriel looking at her extended hand as if trying to figure out how she got her name. Julie pulled back her hand as though she had read her puzzled mind. 'ohh, how I got your name, my mum was picking altar flowers at your backyard, she was an old friend to your mum, you didn't see her?' Julie asked still smiling 'maybe..., I dnt remember.' Muriel blurted out ' Its ok, you'll meet her, get ready to fall in love with this place, have you walked around?' Julie was rather excited, she had a lot she wanted Muriel to see. 'It's not as thrilling..' Muriel replied before her eyes met with groups of people coming towards them, Julie's eyes followed hers 'There's a wrestling match, it happens on the first Sunday of every month after mass, the fun bit of it, it takes place on water ... So almost everyone will be at the beach today. It's so interesting.' Julie almost jumped with excitement. Muriel could see the bare chest guys, guessing those were the competitors. She didn't like informal crowds mind was trying to figure out how to vanish from the beach. 'Everyone?' She asked sensing from the magnitude of voices 'Almost..' Julie almost screamed in excitement. The sight of bare chest youths showcasing strength and their built bodies wasn't one to miss. It was a big title as well as event of the month.. 'if you want a better view, away from everyone, you can go to the top of the hill near the church...It's quiet' Julie as though had read her character about crowds. This was one of the best things that come out of her mouth since. Muriel thought almost with a smile.'Thanks'
She walked slowly on the slopes, they weren't steep. She wasn't going to get a clearer view, her mind was on how to move away from the crowds. She wasn't excited to see bare chest men or whatsoever, her mind had always been busy after cheques not chests.
She reached the church, it was big and wooden built, amidst a bed of green grass. She dared not to look inside, her eyes focussed on the atmosphere. She could here those church symphonies blending in with the silence, she could see a group of men in black cloaks and some were dressed casually, they were having a chat and were waiting for the match to begin, it was common sense to figure out those were priests, the only men she was sure put on dresses. She wasn't planning to interrupt them and she wished they too would mind their business, just like everyone did in California. She walked passed them and stood a distance at the cliff. Jesus!, the view was almost perfect!, she thought. She could see almost the whole verdant meadows of the island from up here, and the beach was really beautiful, with the white sand and beautiful waters then the thatched tops of the beach shades. The scented wind of the beach swept her hair towards her face, and for a moment she was in her own world. As others were down splashing water and cheering on for the match, while the drumers were busy too, she was owning peace of her mind, with wind through her hair.
*i hope you're still patient with my story, please. i promise it'll be worth it .... thank you*
