Chapter 1 - Confession

"Kim Minjoon, I like you!" "I never liked someone before, so I can't tell whether it's love or not, but I'm certain that you are the only one who makes me feel alive." "I started admiring you since the beginning of high school, and If it's possible, I hope you will accept me, but if you don't feel the same way, tell me. I promise not to bother you again!"

Confesses Sooyun to her crush of 8 years before stretching her hands out with the gift that she carefully prepared for him.

Today is Christmas Day, and tomorrow is his 21st birthday so, Sooyun decided to gift him a handmade black leather bracelet that she made herself. It took her two months and countless practices to produce the final piece. A simple bracelet with hidden cravings inside that spelled "MJ~SY."

While waiting to hear his reply, Sooyun closes her eyes in fear and anticipation. Inside her head, she repeats, "Please, say I like you too!" "Please, please, please..."

However, breaking the silence, Minjoon goes, "Sorry, no, and bye!"

As soon as he finishes his words, Minjoon starts walking back to where he initially came from without even bothering to look at her gift.

It took him a total of three words to break the heart of Sooyun. A simple "sorry, no, and bye."

Park Sooyun couldn't help but remember that person's words at this moment.

He once said, "It's not worth holding into someone, who doesn't love you back. At some point, you have to realize that some people can only stay in your heart, but not in your life."

Letting go is hard, but sometimes holding on is harder than letting go. Park Sooyun sadly realized this only after getting her heart broken by Kim Minjoon, who is ironically also her arranged fiance whom she is supposed to marry next year.

Many years ago, their grandmothers set up an engagement for them to marry once they turn 21. However, it was on a condition that both parties had to be single at that time.

Even though it was an arranged marriage, the elders didn't want to sabotage the possible relationships Sooyun and Minjoon could have before the announcement, so they decided to tell about it on the day of their 21st birthday.

Unfortunately, due to her grandmother's death, Sooyun got to know about the engagement on her 18th birthday.

She was disappointed at first, but when she saw the picture of her fiance, she got to know that her fiance was the crush of hers that she fell in love with at first sight at the beginning of freshman year of high school.

She couldn't believe that she had a chance with the school price Kim Minjoon. Everyone in her high school knew him, and there were plenty of girls who confessed to him, but he never paid attention to any of them. Due to her shyness, Sooyun never dared to confront him.

Just as she was getting ready to move on after high school, she learned that both he and she were going to attend the same university abroad.

Was it a destiny? No, she didn't dare to dwell on it until she found out about the engagement.

How can you explain it besides it being a FATE and DESTINY!

Sadly, the reality was much crueler than fantasy.

Bach to the scene, hidden by her long, silky, black hair, Sooyun is secretly crying without making a noise. Pitiful tears are sliding down her cheeks and falling into the pavement.

All these years, she tried countless times to make him fall in love with her, but she is getting tired now.

Sooyun in her mind, "I guess we aren't meant to be together."

"Kim Minjoon, back when I got to know about the engagement, I promised myself that if you didn't love me by your 21st birthday, I would cancel the engagement myself. Tomorrow is the deadline, and since it didn't work out, I'm going to keep my promise and cancel the engagement."

Goodbye, Kim Minjoon!

Goodbye, my first love!

"In the future, I hope we never see each other again!"

I believed that I wouldn't see him again until our paths crossed THREE years later...
