It was in that moment, as the city lights danced beneath my feet that I knew I needed to let him go. I needed to let every shred of hope I had left leave with him, because keeping him here was not where he belonged. He belonged in the night sky with the dimly lit stars that loomed over me. I read his first love letter to me one last time, feeling his words embrace every inch of me as the night grew cold. I traced my fingers over the words "with all my love", feeling the tears drip down my face. I knew what I had to do.

I climbed off the edge of the roof, and back down the stairs, feeling the tears drip down my cheek with every single step I took. I walked down to the nurses station, spinning my wedding ring in an endless circle.

"Is Dr. Adkins still here?" I wiped the tears from my face, feeling my cheeks turn red.

"I'll page him. What room Miss." The nurse answered, looking down at her computer.

"Room 604. Thank you, Nurse Janice." I tried to smile, but when she looked up at me from her computer, her frown revealed the sadness I couldn't hide.

I walked back into our room and laid with him on the bed, feeling the little warmth he had left in his body. The beeping of his faint heart and the tubes that helped him eat and breathe filled the void in the room. I laced my fingers through his, running my other hand over his skin, tracing small circles in hopes he would wake and hug me.

"Mrs. Fey." Dr. Adkins interrupted. I quickly jump off the bed and stand to meet him.

"Dr. Adkins," I press my lips into a firm line and gather all the strength I have to not break down and bawl like a child in front of him, "I've made my decision."
