Chapter 6 - A Dream Shackled in Chains

Months had passed since this boy had discovered a place beyond the lonely one he had wandered all those years. He would swim and swim. Enthusiastic as he saw new sights he couldn't have even imagined before. This was a dream to him.

As he wandered through all sorts of weathers and terrains, he watched how evolved societies lived in the waters, on the lands and even in the skies. He watched. But still couldn't understand. But his naivety would bring about an unexpected turn.

One day, as he explored a new underwater land, he encountered a girl, like him. She had the upper half of a land dweller. And the lower half of a sea dweller. She spoke to him in a tongue he had been very unfamiliar with. And he could only respond through vaguely understanding her tone and emotions. He was aware of communication between different societies but still had difficulty in dealing with it. The girl felt pity for him, so brought her back to his home.

There they stayed for 2 years, where she taught him of the curiosities he brought to her. He learnt to speak and understand more, and his world seemed to broaden further and he felt so happy. He wanted to go further.

One day, the girl approached the boy. And began to say things on topics he was still unfamiliar with. He tried to understand but still struggled. As she conversed more, he became painstakingly aware, the longer he stayed and the less he understood, the more angry and upset she would become.

So he followed what he believed his instincts were telling him to, and he left. As he swam away he could hear her screaming and wailing. He must have done something wrong to make her feel this way, but he couldn't understand what. And in frustration, the girl lashed out.

The boy felt goosebumps on his skin as he turned to face the girl. But instead he was greeted with a flash and a shock, before darkness.

Time passed and he awoke again. Though he felt different. Trying to reach, he could not. Trying to speak, he was silent. He then realised, he was not of his usual form, but in that of a shark. Why. He had only begun to learn of freedom, to be restricted behind a new type of shackles.

He continued to move onwards. Surely fate could do no worse to him.

Surely....

Doesn't constitute for never.
