It was getting dark. Jenifer thought they both were wasting time but Jack had another flavor of thoughts. He thought they both were doing great and would make a great team.
It was time to go back home. Jack asked Jenifer if she needed a ride home but she rejected by saying that she can handle herself.
Jenifer had no car, no bus pass and no money. It was thundering. The clouds roared and Jenifer went cold. The cool wind blew rapidly. There was the sound of dry dead leaves moving with the wind and getting below her feet.
Jenifer looked here and there with fear. She had a long way to go. The night looked dreadful. She walked with cold feet and prayed to reach home quickly and safely.
She now started to hear the barking of dogs and some steps ahead there was a group of drunken people. She had to cross them. She was scared to death. Her breath held in her throat. Her heart in her chest pounded so fast that it could just come out.
A car came and stopped by. "Are you sure you don't want a ride home?" It was Jack. Jenifer was relieved to see him. She quickly got in the car and asked Jack to drive without saying a single word.
Jack laughed at her a lot. He also teased her but she remained quiet. "Why this day had to come when I had to take help from him?" she said to herself.
"Here's your stop Ma'am." Jack stopped the car in front of Jenifer's house. Jenifer got out from the car to the front door. "You're welcome." uttered Jack.
"Are you crazy or what? I never thanked you." Jenifer spoke.
"I know you were happy to see me when I reached to pick you up and you thanked me too."
"It's nothing like that. I wanted to reach home soon so I took a ride."
"But I heard your thanks."
"You're acting weird now."
"Jen you'll never understand me." Jack said this and drove away.
Jenifer never noticed his words. All she knew was to ignore him. She rang the doorbell and Della opened the door, "Where were you Jen? I was worried. Have you seen the time? Why is your phone switched off?"
"I forgot my phone home and it was a busy day today." Jenifer told.
"You also forgot to take the bus pass." Della scolded.
"Mom I was in a hurry."
"How did you manage to go and come back?"
Jenifer told about her day. She also told about the old man who was not less than an angel. She told that her first day went horrible. She also told about the task assigned to her and also about her new teammate.
She ate some sandwiches and went to sleep. She couldn't meet her father or her siblings because they were asleep by now.
It was mid night when her eyes suddenly opened due to a large creepy sound. It was about 3:00 am. She heard some voices coming from outside the room. "Is anyone there?" she asked. The door of her room was slightly opened. She could see someone's shadow.
"Kate is that you?" she asked but no one answered. The shadow slowly moved away from the room. Jenifer got up slowly and opened the door. She was shivering with fear. She got out of the room and found herself in a different house. A layer of dread ran through her body. She couldn't accept what was happening.
She slowly came down from the wooden stairs which were giving loud creaky noise at every step. Jenifer went to the main hall and looked around. She was only thinking how she got here. Suddenly, she started to hear voices. There were poems as if a little girl was singing and laughers of that girl.
Jenifer couldn't understand what was happening. Her head was spinning. She was shivering till toes. The voices stopped at an instant. "Jenifer!" a voice came from behind.
Jenifer got a push of terror in her stomach. She turned around. She saw someone standing at the door. She couldn't see it clearly but it looked dreadful. The glowing red eyes it had were filled with hate.
Jenifer couldn't control her tears. She ran here and there to get out of the house and finally she found the way out. She got out and ran but suddenly got hit to something and fell down in front of the house. When she got up she found herself in front of the same house which was on the picture in Jack's office. She got shocked. She saw someone standing at the upper window of the house, staring at her. She could feel the smell of horror. She ran towards the woods as fast as possible and her eyes suddenly opened due to the bangs of the alarm.
"Another nightmare!" Jenifer woke up. She turned off the alarm, got dressed and went downstairs. She ate her breakfast, met all of her family members and off she went to work.
"You can take my car today." offered Della.
"Thank you Mom!" Jenifer thanked.
Jenifer was happy to have a car today but one thing was disturbing her that what was her connection with the house which she had never seen before. She wanted to find out what was happening with her.
