Rose's pov
Mom took a deep breath as I suggested before we headed out to the hospital where she is going to give her an interview.
She is quite nervous about it, I wouldn't like to blame her but still, she is behaving like she it's her first time.
I drove the car to the parking lot as parked there, the hospital itself is big and famous in the area because lots of patients are visiting here.
We went inside to the receptionist.
"Will you inquiry about the interview?" Mom mumbled in my ears, I looked at her in disbelief.
"Okay fine, just take a deep breath, Mom it's just an interview, not rocket science"
"Hello, I am Rose and my mother has an interview today," I said on behalf of mom, the receptionist gives me the surprising glance. Of course, daughters don't inquiry about their mother's job.
"What is her name?" She asked.
"Jennifer Lauren"
"Yeah, it's on the 25th floor, take the elevator," She said, gesturing me to the elevator, I nodded before saying 'thank you' to her.
Mom and I strolled out of the elevator as I told her to smile, I couldn't believe that she is so frightened about such a thing. Sometimes I wonder she becomes like this after her divorce or she was always like this so afraid for no reason.
I waited for her outside in the waiting room until her interview gets over, I sighed seeing mom walking out nervously.
"How it goes?" I ask, with the hope in my tone.
"I tried my best." Is all able to come out of her lips? I wish I could somehow motivate her.
"I don't know. Rose, if I even can do one with the nervousness in my body." She says, worriedly.
"Mom! don't say that like that, I am sure you have done great in the interview."
"Let's see, they said they will contact me."
"Don't worry, Mom, you will get a job soon," I assured her, she gave me a sad smile.
On the way back home, I stopped the car at the street market to build my mom's mood. She loves grocery shopping cause she loves cooking and choosing the perfect ingredients for it by herself, it helps her to release her tension so this idea should work.
We stride straight inside, Mom's eyes sparkled after seeing fresh vegetables and fruits like little kids who get the chance to choose their favorite toffy out of so many.
"I am planning to make fish today." She said, walking over to the fish shop which was handled by a Japanese old guy in his late 40s.
"We want salmon fillets for three." Mom told him. He nodded and finely washed and chopped the fish before handing it to mom.
Looking over my shoulders Mom spoke, "Let's get some vegetables too."
I knew it! My mom can't control herself to buy all the groceries she needs. She seems excited about it.
We stroll almost towards all the shops one by one, picking out each of the things carefully. One thing I was glad about was she forgot that she was stressed about her interview a couple of hours back.
We shopped so much stuff that becomes hard for us to carry though I took mostly all the stuff from her hand which she refused at first but agreed just then something hit mom from behind and she mistakenly tripped over a man who looked the same age as a mom, she almost falls on the ground when he caught her in his arms.
They were looking at each other deeply, I can't let a strange guy hit on my mom like this but for a beat, I felt that she needs to get out of her loneliness but with this guy, she looks comfortable.
I remember that she once said that she was way too nervous when she met dad for the first time but here the case is different.
"Are you okay?" He asks mom.
"Yes. I think so." Mom replied, getting out of his arms embarrassingly when she notices me watching them.
"I was just carrying some baskets and I didn't realize there's a woman in front of me." A young Japanese boy spoke in an apologetic voice.
"Then, you should say sorry to her." That stranger guy who saved mom told that young boy.
Nodding, he turned to mom, "I am very sorry ma'am." with that he bowed and left.
"What an asshole," I mumbled under my breath. "So mom, are you alright, or should we see a doctor?"
She shook her head, "Nope, I am fine, thanks."
"I think Mom...you should thank him."
Mom moved to him as she paused for a few moments, admiring his face. With shiny blonde hair, He has almost unnoticeable wrinkles near his eyes which were blue.
"T-thank you so much." I don't understand, why mom shattered in saying a thank you.
"Your welcome. I am Ronald. " He extended his hand to Mom for a handshake, she did with a smile on her lips.
"Jennifer and she is my daughter Rose." Mom introduced us. His eyes met mine for a brief moment.
"You look too young and beautiful to be the mom of a teenage girl." He compliments and Mom blushed.
"No, I do look that old." She retorts sweetly.
"Ohh, if that's how old people look, then I don't mind getting old anymore." He jokes and we laughed. "So you come here every day?" He asks Mom.
"No but mostly on Sundays." She replied almost giving him the hint that he can meet her here on Sundays.
"Ohh me too." He said as he walked us to our car, even helping us to carry some of our carry bags, setting the bags in the back seat. He moved his head to mom, "I hope we will meet again then."
She gives him a sweet smile. " I hope to."
