Chapter 6 - Base [Chapter 6]

I fall in and out of consciousness in the car, occasionally seeing Ven and Alex inspecting my face and putting their hands on my head. My hearing clears up slowly, and the headache slowly eases up.

"We need a place to stay!"

I hear Ven yell in the car. I wince from pain as my head pounds in response to his yelling. I fall unconscious again, almost instantly jolting awake on a hard metal cot. I look around and see dark stone walls, cracked heavily. Several support beams are dented and seem as though they could collapse at any moment.

I slowly stand up, noticing my mask on a small wooden table beside me. I grab it and stumble around. After a moment, I hear faint voices. Still confused, I pick up a metal rod from the ground and walk towards the voices with it. I slowly round the corner, seeing everyone sitting at an unstable table, playing some card game.

Ven looks up and sees me, quickly knocking and the table and pointing towards me. Everyone quickly looks to me. Devon stands up and walks over to me with a curious smile.

"I'll be damned, you were right Ven."

He mumbles quietly as I start to speak up. He quickly covers my mouth and puts a finger to his mouth, telling me to stay quiet. I nod and pull his hand away.

"What happened?"

I ask silently, Alex quickly walking away. Ven walks over to me and smiles. Out of the corner of my eye, I see Evan looking at the others hands that they placed on the table.

"You were shot, it went through your cheek bone and took a good chunk of flesh out. You were bleeding alot, but I noticed in the car that the bleeding stopped pretty quickly. I now see that the Accelerators actually increase the speed at which you heal."

He says while rubbing his finger along my cheek. Alex quickly comes out with a shattered piece of a mirror. As he hands it to me, I take it without hesitation. I look at my reflection, seeing my cheek scarred. It looks like the injury happened years ago. I notice I have a few white streaks in my hair.

I don't think much of it and hand the mirror back to Alex.

"So, we heal faster? So what? If we get killed, we still won't come back to life. We still have to be careful."

I whisper, Devon nodding slightly.

"Just not as careful."

He says and pops his knuckles. I quickly points around me.

"Also where are we? Why are we in this rundown place?"

I ask, Ven patting my shoulder.

"We needed a place to stay, and this old warehouse is taped off. The officers will probably check her eventually, but I believe we have a pretty good amount of time until then. Maybe a week until they discover us, at most. So that is our time frame."

He says clearly. Alex speaks up next.

"We also talked about exposing the government for this if they decide to throw us under the bus, metaphorically or literally in this sense. We have some ideas but nothing concrete yet."

Alex mumbles as Devon stretches and pops his neck.

"We can discuss that later, but now that Everyn is awake, we can go to the managers house."

Ven quickly shakes his head.

"The cops are probably scoping out his house, but maybe we could draw them away. If we could cause a riot or mass hysteria, maybe. Or if we could get the cops called back to the station."

He whispers to himself while biting his thumb and thinking. Evan speaks up, not quite whispering.

"Everyn and I will go to the police station, if required. I know how to convince them if it comes to it, but we need to be one hundred percent sure that police are at his house."

He says coldly.

Is that the first he's truly talked?

I think as Evan takes off his paper bag. His face is smooth except for one scar over his left eye. His hair is long, blue, and in a bun.

As he unwraps it, it falls down to the middle of his back.

He coldly looks to us and nods.

"So, let's figure it out."

He mumbles while pulling out a flip-phone.

A flip-phone? It's pretty old, does it even work?

He quickly turns it on and pulls the folder from MoonBucks out. He quickly calls the number and waits several seconds. We hear a click and Evan completely.

"Good evening sir, I have a complaint about one of your employees from two days ago. I was really thinking about not calling, but seeing as though they were quite rude to me earlier today as well I felt as though you should know."

His voice sounds heavily feminine, if we didn't know he was a guy, we would easily think it was a woman talking.

"Oh that's horrible, I really hope your safe. I can't even begin to fathom why people would do such a thing."

He waits a few moments before nodding.

"Alright sir, you stay safe. But do tell Clyde to not be so rude, maybe he's just been under a lot of stress. I had no idea all that had happened, I'll leave you be. Bye."

As he hangs up, he take the phone apart.

"He's alone supposedly. He might've been told not to let anyone know there's police there, but I feel its a sixty percent chance he truly is alone."

He says softly with his usual deep voice while taking the phone apart.

"I don't want them tracking the call if anything goes wrong, but I doubt they could off of such a short call. Never the less, can't be to safe."

He mumbles as he stands up and folds his paper bag carefully.

"Eighteen West Street."

He mumbles as Ven steps towards him.

"Who's Clyde?"

He asks softly, Evan putting his hands in his pockets.

"He worked first shift, I was a regular for a while. It never hurts to know a little about everything, or at least try to. Never know when seemingly useless information might come in handy. Also, it's on those papers that he worked first shift today."

He points to the papers as we I nod.

"Alright, let's get going. We won't move if there is any sign of officers, but we can at least scope out the building."

Devon says, everyone nodding in aggreeance.
