Chapter 15 - A lightshow

Date: 12/17/269 IG

Location: Rose, Capital of the Astronian-Devlorian Empire; The Bastion, Interrogation room

Time: 10:00 am

A man sits handcuffed to a table. He's wearing a worn out trench coat, a pair of cracked glasses, smells like alcohol and seems like he hasn't had a good shave in several weeks. On the other end of the table sits Astronomus, just staring at the man, trying to figure out a way to break him. Astronia is leaning against the wall next to the door. "What's your name?" asked Astronomus. The man responds in a dry voice, "Kiss my ass." Astronomus chuckles and stands up. "Looks like we've got ourselves a bad-ass here. You probably expect the classic 'Good Cop, Bad Cop' thing don't ya." he slowly approaches the subject. "You will soon learn that here there is no Good Cop to comfort you for the hell you will go through if you don't answer. I could pull someone's strings and say, I don't know, Have you sent to the worst of the worst prisons that we have, you'd be eating the scraps leftover from the guards's lunchtime down at the bottom of a 15-ft hole lined with reinforced steel. That is unless you talk." The man tilts his head down in thought contemplating his position. "Markus. My name is Markus." Astronomus returns to his seat, "Well, Markus, let's have a little chat."

About an hour later Astronomus and Astronia walk out of the interrogation room and start walking. "What have you learned from this?" asked Astronomus. "Intimidation is an effective tool." she replied. "That's mostly correct. It's only effective if you know the kind of person they are with the little time you have spent with them and making it sound believable. Most of what I said back there was false. I couldn't have done any of that without first having a crime to pin on him. He wouldn't have ever known that as far as I can tell he was too poor to be able to learn and to know his benefits from the law. So he didn't even think about calling my bluff. He just saw a man with the power to bring him unbearable suffering. Ya know, you should try persuasion when people are mentally defenseless." Astronia laughs, "I would but it's unfortunate that the guy behind that idea was genocidal fascist." "Yeah ... Anyways we should tell Zentreya about our findings. We may have to question Melody Since the Markus Claims to be from the Technocracy."

Moments later, The door to the interrogation room opens seemingly on its own. Markus steps out. Melody uncloaks herself. "Do they believe you.?" she asked. "They believe that the 'terrorists' are located within the Technocracy's borders. All they need is one final push over the edge." replied Markus. Melody smiles and hands him a Pistol. "The Northern Star Technocracy also believes that the terrorists reside in Astro-Devlorian Space. I'll Inform Task Force Phoenix to kill the hostages and deliver the bodies. In the meantime, there are explosives in the maintenance tunnel down the hall. Make the Supreme Leader Proud and give them a lightshow." Markus Salutes, "Hail the Supreme Leader" he then runs off to complete the mission.

Wearing space Armour under a cloak and armed with a rifle, MrDevus stands a few feet away from the ship. He turns to ship. Iron Mouse stands in the doorway and he gives her a thumbs up. She shakes her head and goes back into the ship. A little disheartened, MrDevus pulls a hood over his head and begins walking to the wrecked ship. After a few minutes of walking he stands a couple hundred feet from the wreck. He looks around for the climbing route using binoculars then he spots an optimal path by the engines. A bunch of piping close enough together forming an odd ladder about 3-4 stories tall. "I'm starting to second guess this plan," he spoke to himself, "It looks so much smaller in the blue prints." Before approaching, He kneels down and clutches a handful of sand and shoves it in his pocket. "I'll have some scientists look at this when I get back, I'm interested to know its uses." He stands up and begins his approach.

At the top of the ship he barely manages to pull himself up. He rolls over exhausted. "Okay I'm definitely regretting this plan." he stands up and looks around. He locates the captains quarters and rushes over to peek into the window. The room is filled with journal devices and guns. Mr Davis takes out a plasma cutter and begins to cut a hole in into the window when he hears a familiar voice. "Strange isn't it?" He jumps up and aims his rifle at the direction of the voice. A masked man in a black cloak stands before him. The masked man speaks up again, "You leave in a desperate attempt at survival only to return for death." MrDevus switches off the safety of the rifle. "Seems you've grown a spine J-1267. Or do you go by a different name?", asked the masked man. "How do you know that!?!" Shouted MrDevus, still aiming the rifle. "Oh right, I'm still wearing that mask." the man proceeds to remove the mask to reveal the face of an old man. "I do hope that you still remember the man that made you." Mr Devus looks on in shock and horror as he stares at him. He mummers under his breath, "Dr. Broker."
