Chapter 73 - The Taurus [Chapter 73]

I cock my left eyebrow up and stare at Vex.

"What? Something bothering you?"

I ask, Vex quickly shaking his head in response.

"No, it's nothing important."

He pauses, looking to all the wolf corpses around us.

"I'm only concerned for why they had names and levels, as though we were in a dungeon."

Vex closes his eyes and crosses his arms, obviously thinking hard about something. While he's thinking, Kain sighs deeply.

"This is insane, who could've imagined monsters of that level could live outside of dungeons?"

Kain mumbles under his breath. Vex jolts his eyes open, almost as though something dawned on him.

"I have a few ideas for why that could be. First, we may be in a dungeon. But that seems unlikely since before they built the portal, Vathric would've had to use physical transportation to get here. The second idea, the dungeon somehow was opened and the beasts inside were set free, allowed to breed and thrive."

I smile.

"Either way, sounds like I'll get plenty of practice with my sword here."

I say happily while staring at my black and red blade. Vex sighs and continues talking.

"The third option is the most likely. The same way that the system on Vathric differed from the system on Sathric, the system here may be different."

Almost as though on cue, we all open our stats.

Name: Dante Fenrix

Level: 562

HP: 38,136,000

Strength: 153,920

Dexterity: 58,156

Constitution: 44,200

Intelligence: 15

Magic: 1,320

Skill: 1,320

I frown, still seeing my low intelligence score.

Damn, I need to find a way to raise my intelligence.

Vex nods, clearly looking up and down at his stats.

"It has to be a different system, meaning beasts and non-human beings may show their level and name."

I pop my neck and stare at the sky.

"Who cares? They'll die the same either way."

I whisper under my breath, Vex obviously hearing me by the look he shoots me. He shakes his head and looks around.

"But we should get moving, we have very little information on this continent due to rushing here. I say we keep moving until we find The Nexxus, then go from there."

We all nod in response and quickly start walking straight in the direction the portal shot us out. After a few moments, Warren kicks the snow. To our shock, the snow vanishes as his foot rips through it. Vex quickly holds up his hand and watches the snow hit it.

"This entire continent seems to be running not only off a different system, but entirely different rules of physics."

Vex says. Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, I see someone running in the distance. I look closer, but can't make out any distinguishable features. Vex sees me looking into the distance and turns his attention that way as well.

"If I had a long time, I would try to study the wildlife. There's barely any animals or life, what does the wildlife live off of I wonder?"

Vex says, suddenly, the beast turns. We see it slowly growing larger. I ready my sword and smile. Warren and Kain look to me, clearly confused. Warren speaks up.

"How do you not feel fear from that? You have no hesitation at all."

I shrug and dash forward, feeling my skin on my face pulled tightly from my wide smile. As I grow closer and closer to the beast, I pull my sword back to swing when it's in range. It soon gets within range to guess how tall it really is.

It stands about sixty feet tall, and nearly ninety feet long. It has six massive horns coming from this oddly bloody skull, similar in shape to a moose. It also has two massive tusks and strange bones jutting from its shoulders.

"That may be within the level gap to give me experience!"

I shout, quickly sheathing my sword and readying my fists.

"In which case, I want all the experience I can get!"

The beast lowers its head while charging and moves even faster towards me.

"[Teleport 2]! [Flurry: X42]!"

I appear above the beast's face and punch 42 times into it's face in a little over one second.

I watch the beast's head slam to the ground, blood exploding everywhere. Its horns jam into the ground, but the momentum causes its body to flip over, ripping the body away at the neck. Blood trails with the body as it slides another fourty feet.

I smile, waiting for several seconds, but no experience or level up notice appears. I grit my teeth and clench my fist.

"Guess not even one-hundred times experience can make up for a level gap of almost one-hundred. Damnit."

I walk back towards the others, clearly frustrated. Vex looks at me.

"Assuming that was the Apex?"

I stop and quickly smile.

"You're right, it wasn't. Meaning there has to be a stronger version here somewhere!"

I shout excitedly, Vex sighs and pinches the bridge of his nose.

"We won't break from the plan, but if you see another one, I won't stop you from killing it."

I laugh and throw a punch in the air.

"I'll kill any beast we come across, but the higher level the better."

I smile, making sure to scan all around us for any living animals. Warren laughs nervously.

"You really are a scary guy, you know that?"

I ignore him and quickly dash forward.

"Come on! The faster we move, the faster I can find some more beasts!"

I look back and see Warren pick up Kain, then everyone runs behind me. After almost a minute of running, I see several beasts appear through the warm snow far to my left.

They all look like the Taurus I had already killed, but one towers above the others. I look back and see Vex shaking his head in disbelief.

I clench my fists and teleport within range of the beasts, noticing they're all resting on the ground. They all start to stand up when they see me. Two of them are like the one I had killed before, but the big one is an Apex, as I hoped.

I quickly teleport to the two smaller ones, and use [Flurry: X42] on both of them. I kill both of the small ones while the large one stands up. It stands over one-hundred feet tall, and I can't even see how long it is. I smirk, still no fear or hesitation in my actions.

"[Teleport 2]! [Flurry: X42]!"

I appear on its forehead and my fists punch holes in the beast's head, but it doesn't fall down. Instead it slams its head towards the ground. Before it collides, the Taurus floats off the ground. Causing the snap of its head downwards just to throw me off. I land with a heavy thud and grit my teeth.

[-6,000,000 HP]

[+110,500 HP]

I quickly teleport back to its head and unload another fourty-two punches into its skull. This time its body goes limp, either unconscious or dead, and I teleport to the ground. I notice Vex holding his hand out, almost straining to hold the beast. He lets it go, and it falls down onto its own large head, causing its massive spine to rip through its back and neck.

I wait for several seconds, then get the notice I wanted to see.

[10+ Levels Gained!]

I quickly open my stats, confused as to why I didn't recieve any experience.

I attempt to put some into intelligence, but the score won't go up no matter what I do. I frown, feeling defeated, and split them into other attributes. I put 1,680 into Skill, but blink a few times when Magic also increases by the same amount.

"So those are linked? I guess that's what Intelligence is on Sathric."

I put 5,800 into Constitution, to even it out. Then I put 11,844 into Dexterity. I dump the rest into strength and smile at my new stats.

I run through the list, almost overwhelmed by the amount of options. I do some quick math and assume I can get all regular and Legendary spells, so I try. I blink a few times and stare as my available spells list scrolls downward. I don't look at every available spell, but notice I still have spell slots open. I finish out [Titans PyroBlast] and [Bloody Wraith], and get two spell slots of [Planar Presence].

I quickly close my stats, feeling a sense of relief.

"Soon I may be able to have all the available spells, but do I even use spells enough to warrant needing them all?"

I mumble to myself, Vex quickly walking up beside me and nodding.
