Chapter 2 - Life in the Office

PRODUCTION DEPARTMENT, SMITH ENTERPRISE HQ

I peeked at the digital clock on the wall. I'm waiting for Manager Jang, who went to see the CEO.

I want to talk to him about this afternoon's appointment as I need to attend the PTA meeting later.

I like to ask for a consideration to leave early before the meeting ends. I want to catch up on our Parents-Teacher Association meeting today as very important for my children to see me there.

Anxiously, I tapped my fingers on my table while reading my reports on the computer screen. All it needed was to print them out and give them to Manager Jang.

I heard voices. Manager Jang and Supervisor Johnson are passing the Inventory Team office. It was my chance to talk with him after Supervisor Johnson left.

Not that long, the supervisor passed by our office and headed to the elevator in the south corner, so I took this chance.

"Mona," I whispered. "I'm going to Manager Jang's office. Might someone look for me... I will come back right away."

"Why are you going to Wolf's Lair?"

I chuckled at Mona's question. Stunned is what registered on her face in which I understood why she was worried like this.

Everyone keeps a distance from Manager Jang and is very careful not to make mistakes under his management.

They were calling him a wolf for a great instinct, as it was easy for him to figure out that something was going on and a mistake made by one of his team.

He is sharp and doesn't like slacker employees.

Anyway, I don't fear these traits of him. I ensured I wouldn't make a mistake and did my job correctly. I submitted my reports earlier than the scheduled time. So my boss cannot complain about my performance and has no reason to scold me anytime. So I am not afraid to approach him with my concerns.

Since he is my boss, I must consult him rather than leave work without proper notice to take my half-day leave after the meeting.

I knocked on the door and pushed it open after hearing him say, "come in."

"Good morning, Manager Jang," I greeted him and bowed.

"Miss Henderson, what brings you here?"

I was a bit surprised. Then, he never expected me to visit his office anytime unless he summons me.

It must be, as I was rare to call on and lecture regarding mistakes with reports.

"Mona told me about our meeting later, sir. I explained my reason. It happens my children's class PTA meeting is close to our scheduled time. I would like to know if my appearance is needed so I can make an altered plan of arriving at the school when the PTA starts."

I waited for my boss to respond. He's an expressionless man, so I won't try hard to read what is on his mind. He's a straightforward person, so I have to talk directly. Besides, I already submitted a half-day leave letter last week, and he approved it already. I am now a confirmation to avoid misunderstanding even though I did give a letter last week.

"Miss Henderson, I can let you go if it is a nonessential meeting. But an important person to be present at that gathering. Everyone must be there."

It means I cannot take the half-day leave, but I understand. I opened my mouth to thank Manager Jang when he added.

"However, you can leave after the meeting."

I did not see that coming, though I already perceived these hidden traits about him. His being a wolf also symbolizes his understanding of social communication.

"Thank you very much, Manager Jang." I bowed.

He nodded in response without sparing a glance at me. Although he ignored me, he continued signing and reviewing the documents in his hand, which was already a yes. I know his personality well after years of working under him. Oops, no, you were wrong. We don't have a secret relationship. We are just a boss-employee relationship.

"Thank you for your time, Manager Jang," I said and turned around. I stride toward the door and shut it close behind me.

I shook my head and heaved a sigh. If I hadn't known his character, I would have misinterpreted his secret action and thought he was checking on me.

I know; when I turned around, he glanced and watched me step outside his office.

He's not staring at my ass, is he? I wonder about that every time, though...

Well, if he doesn't notice, I could peer enough at his office mirrored wall that he was peeking at me before leaving.

Well, never mind. I don't care about this stuff. I'm not into office romance or having intimacy at work.

Anyway, if you want me to describe Manager Alexander Jang?

He is 6'1 tall, handsome, well-built physique, an intelligent dude, black hair, sharp brown eye color, a proud long nose, and kissable lips. What did I forget to mention?

Oh, don't get it wrong. I had never tasted his kiss yet, and never in my wildest dream would I ever try to.

In words to describe, not just one; he's too attractive to his opposite sex, except me, pleeeease.

I'm here to earn, not fantasize about my boss or any hot guys in the office.

Back at my table, I gathered my things to visit the warehouse. I have a few things to check out before I send my report.

"Bye, Zel! See you later."

"Bye! Yup, see you guys later," I told Mona and the other three from our team.

The meeting was held at the company warehouse as Manager Jang mentioned wanting to meet the Production team and the warehouse workers.

Since the warehouse is 10 miles away, a company car took us there. Now seated inside a white Van, we waited for another employee headed to the warehouse from different departments.

"Hello, Miss Zelena!"

Greeted by Ron from the HR Department.

"Hi, Ron." I returned. My lips pursed a quick smile; then I lowered my gaze to my phone.

I need to leave a message for my kids for them to read during lunch break. It is time they can turn on their phone.

[Mommy: Honey, I am sad to tell you both that mommy must attend an emergency meeting first. Would you please inform your teacher beforehand that I might arrive late? I'm sorry.]

It is the message I left in our group chat. I created one, so I don't need to message or call my twin separately now and then.

I also left a few emojis before putting my phone back in my bag and closing my eyes. Gladly, things are back on the right track for today. Well, it's just a half-day pass. It made me wonder who this person we are meeting later is...

Could it be bad news or good news?
