She walked down the street in a daze. She did not know where to go or what to do. It never occurred to her that she would ever end up with nothing , not even a shilling to her name.
The streets of Nairobi were teeming with people given its vibrant nightlife. A lovey dovey couple passed her and she wanted to warn the pretty lady hanging onto her boyfriend's every word. "run ,run before its too late,"she wanted to say, but they would only think she's a lunatic.In a city of more than four million people she felt as tiny and insignificant as an ant. Her days of glamour were long gone and all she had now was a pregnancy she couldn't afford.
" I'm giving myself tonight to cry because when tomorrow comes it will be time to think about solutions," she resolved.
Tara had met Nelson at a get together she attended with a friend. He was everything she wanted in a man. He was tall ,charming ,handsome and intelligent. He was the kind of guy who people listened to when he talked , he seemed to be drawing a crowd wherever he went and being rich certainly didn't hurt. The first time Nelson laid eyes on Tara made her feel as if her heart skipped a beat. She thought that it was love at first sight and it was ,on her part at least. The event was at La Rosa hotel where the one percent frequented. This was Tara's first time at a five star hotel and the experience had certainly been an eye opener for her. She had escorted her friend Lucy whose dad had forced her to attend. The party was filled with rich kids who had influential families and very few were self-made millionaires. The difference between them and her was glaringly obvious but she rivaled most of them in looks.
At five feet seven inches she was taller than most women , she had an ample bosom ,tiny waist and modest hips. She also had legs a mile long added to that was her exquisite face that looked as if God had taken his time when creating her. All in all she turned heads when entering a room. Tara smiled and courteously engaged with people as fast as she could and the snuck out to the balcony for a much needed reprieve. She rubbed her arms due to the cool breeze while looking out at the gorgeous night view of the city. Suddenly a warm coat slid on her shoulders prompting her to turn around and look at the owner.
Nelson's eyes had been tracking the beautiful woman who came with Lucy Hale to the party. Most women from affluent heritages had been throwing themselves at him given his status as the heir of the Makini family. He didn't begrudge them because that's how their circle worked ,people married for business and the rest was not important. The party was like any other he had attended countless times ,boring . That was until she walked in ,the first thing he saw was her beautiful face then his eyes trailed down to that gorgeous figure .it was like the more he looked at her the prettier she got and when he saw her sneak out to the balcony ,he seized the chance and followed.
That was the beginning of their relationship. At first everything went well, he respected her and treated her like a queen. Nelson adored her and fulfilled her every whim. He took her to the most exotic places in the world for vacations and shopping. Slowly by slowly he isolated her from the world. It began with Nelson convincing Tara to quit her job and then he bought her a villa at one of the affluent estates in Nairobi. He created a wonderful bubble for Tara until she lost touch with everyone in her life .Nelsons friends became her friends and she only went wherever he decided. Tara was blinded by love and before she knew it three years had gone by.
Nelson loved Tara but he was a pragmatic man. He knew that his family would never allow him to marry her ,so he decided to keep that part of his life away from her. When his family arranged his engagement with the daughter of a renown family ,he did not appose it. For him it was enough to have Tara as a mistress after his marriage and he cleverly sent her to Bali for vacation during the week of the engagement party.
While in Bali Tara began feeling nauseous in the morning and she also felt tired and sleepy all the time. A visit to a hospital confirmed that she was six weeks pregnant ,she hurriedly booked a flight back home to share the good news with Nelson. This was the beginning of the end to the blissful life she was living. The utopia she was used to crashed and a cruel reality soon began.
