I spent the whole day just looking around the room. There was nothing else to do, I couldn't move, there was no need for me to eat or poop. I had smelled the omelette on the stove and yet it did not make me want to eat or anything.
Noki had already left the room, probably taken by the woman, so I had no one else to talk. For the first hour, I had tried to talk to all the furniture of the room in the hope that there was another cursed object, but that was not the case.
'Hi,' I had said to the bed. Hello to the wardrobe and floor lamp. By the time I had reached the light switch, I had truly given up. Well, this was what I was supposed to do right, on a holiday, do nothing.
When the hour hand went on 4, I heard the door open and a few minutes later, Noki was placed next to me. I had never been so glad to see another boy so close to me.
'Why is it that I can't see the woman's face?' I asked Noki with frustration. I had seen all her body parts, from her painted toes to her cervix. But I coudn't see her face at all, it was as if blurred.
'She's that awful-looking?' I pressed on.
'When has their face mattered to you? Did you ever stop to see Sara's sadness when you dropped her like a hot potato on the eve of her birthday?'
'She was planning to ask me in marriage and I was not ready for that,' I defended myself.
'What about Angie? Do you know the color of her eyes?'
'She wears thick-rimmed glasses, how can I see her eyes?'
'Stop making excuses, Dick,' Noki interrupted. 'You know that you were just keen on bedding them, you didn't care about how they felt.'
'They were perfectly happy with me.' I stated. 'I always made sure they were satisfied.'
'In bed only. What about the rest?'
'What about it?' I asked perplexed, looking at the screensaver switch on Nokia's screen. Koi fish started swimming across, generating ripples.
'A relationship is not only about a penis and a vagina. You need emotions, honesty and so much more. But you never cared. This is why you can't see her face. When you were human, you didn't look at the way their face changed when they smiled or cried, and now you don't even see the face. So why are you complaining?'
I looked at Nokia, speechless for a few minutes. I went through the list of all my girlfriends, determined to prove him wrong.
'Well, Lisa had this tiny mole next to her hip,' I said only to realize that I did not even know the color of her eyes or the shape of her nose. It was the same with all the other girls I had known.
'Esmie has a little scar next to her eyebrow,' I suddenly said triumphantly, but Noki just replied wryly in a bored manner, 'Only one name? Wow, you're so observant.'
The mention of Esmie brought up conflicting emotions within me. On one side, I was glad I was able to remember her face clearly, but on the other, a wave of anger brushed over me. Did I merit such a harsh punishment?
'We're both the same, Dick. Not being considerate to our girls.'
I didn't agree with him. I had treated Esmie like a princess so I couldn't agree with this accusation.
A loud knocking noise attracted my attention, it would seem that the woman was having a guest over. I heard a gruff male voice. However, she did not bring him to the bedroom, which I was glad for in a way. If she had a boyfriend then she wouldn't have any need for me.
Suddenly I heard the sound of glass breaking and this was followed by a shriek. I knew that voice, having heard it moan for a long time.
Shit, the woman was in danger and I couldn't even help her.
I looked at Noki, but he seemed unbothered by all the commotion.
'What's happening, Noki?' I asked in desperation.
'Relax,' he told me.
Relax? That seemed to be his sole motto. But how to relax when hell could be unleashing outside and I was stuck on this vanity table?
