Chapter 22 - Thankful

As Mika sat on the sofa with Lukas, she comforted him and said, "Don't be mad anymore. I'm here with you." Lukas turned to her and embraced her, "I'm sorry, Mika. I lost my temper. I was too worried about you. Oh right, were you alright in the washroom?" Mika nodded, "I'm alright. Lukas, I need to tell you something."

"What is it, sweetheart?" He held her hand and Mika touched her lower abdomen.

"I missed my period for two months, I might be pregnant." Mika waited for Lukas' response and he looked so excited. He hugged Mika for a long time, "Do you feel sick anywhere? Let's go to the hospital right now. Okay?" Mika listened to Lukas so they asked David to drive them to the nearest hospital.

As they waited for the result, the doctor confirmed Mika's already eight weeks pregnant. Lukas embraced Mika once again because he couldn't believe he's going to be a father now. Lukas will be marrying Mika in two weeks as well

Mika went back to Lukas' office, and she listened to the doctor's instruction of trying to rest more and don't get too stressed. She sat on the sofa comfortably as Lukas focused on doing his work beside Mika. David brought some fruits for Mika in case she gets hungry. During the evening, Mika fell asleep in the car while David drove them back to the house. Lukas carried Mika into the house then laid her on his bed.

He looked at Mika's sleeping face and then turned off the light. Lukas went back to his office to continue his work. Few hours later, Mika woke up feeling nauseous again and threw up in the washroom. She stayed in the washroom for several minutes before going to bed. Half an hour later, she went to bed and finally fell asleep until the next morning.

Mika was feeling sleepy and awful so Lukas prepared some light breakfast for her. Since she threw up a lot, some light food could make her feel better. She continued to sleep after breakfast and Lukas had to go to work. He called Katy to accompany Mika.

Katy brought her work into Mika's room so she'll be able to help her when she's needed. For the first half of the morning, everything seemed well without any problems. After a few hours, Mika woke up feeling a bit light-headed. She wanted to get up and walk around but Katy told her to stay in bed.

"Katy, can you bring my jacket? I'll just go out and take a short walk. Can you come with me?" Mika asked and Katy hesitated, "My brother said you should stay at home and rest. If something happens to you, my brother will kill me."

"I'll be fine, I promise. Besides, you'll be with me. We'll just walk around in our backyard garden. Not going anywhere else." Mika smiled at Katy and she sighed in relief, "I thought you're going 'outside'... but walking around the garden seems like a good plan. Fresh air, at least." Mika and Katy wore a light jacket then went out in the garden. Katy held Mika's hand and supported her.

"Mika, do you know if the baby is a boy or girl?" Katy asked.

"Hm. What do you think?" Mika looked at her and waited for her response.

"Hm. A girl." Katy responded in confidence. Mika nodded, "I think so, too."

"Mika, can I touch?" Katy asked but she wasn't too sure.

"Go ahead, you'll be her aunt." Katy smiled while she touched Mika's lower abdomen.

Lukas came home feeling very fatigued and he didn't feel like doing anything. Mika and Katy came downstairs to greet him. When he saw Mika, his energy came back.

"Mika, I missed you today. How is everything with you? Are you feeling better now?" He embraced her and making sure he's not hurting her.

"I'm feeling tired but since you're back, what do you want to eat? I'll cook for you!" Mika was hoping not to feel nauseous as she cooks.

"Regular congee, I'm not too hungry. Cooked bokchoy and pickled vegetables." Lukas replied and Mika nodded, "Take a break. Katy, can you help me?" Katy nodded.

"Mika, I'll make the congee! I do this at my dad's place pretty often." Mika agreed and she'll be washing the vegetables. As Katy finished her part, she helped chopping up the garlic for Mika. After half an hour, Lukas' dinner was ready. Mika was surprised she didn't feel nauseous at all. Lukas smelled the food and it was terrific. He made Mika sit down as well.

"Eat some congee as well, I don't think you ate anything for lunch. Right?" Lukas shared some of his congee and vegetables as well. Mika was grateful that Lukas was getting each and everyday.

"Lukas, thank you for everything."

"Mika, thank you as well."

After they finished, Katy, David, Lukas, and Mika talked about some of the wedding dresses since Lukas and Mika's wedding will be held in two weeks time. They already decided on the venue and they already invited guests for that special day.
