Zhenin slithered as fast as he could.
With his extremely sharp eyes, he could see the floating eyeballs even from a distance of over 100 meters.
So far, Zhenin's mind got so chaotic that he did not bother planning anything. Other than chasing the invisible person as a token of apology to Jack, he had nothing on his mind.
Even with the small speck of the white stone left on his necklace, Jack's vision of Zhenin had gradually turned blurrier to the point that everything is indistinguishable. Since the part of his soul bound to Jack had dispersed, this was only a matter of time.
Now that Ninzhe has arrived, Jack was dumbfounded at the current scene. "What happened?" he asked himself.
With just one glance, he could tell that Zhenin is being unreasonable at. It seemed as though Zhenin believed that he could catch the half-chameleon by just the speed of his slithering alone.
[Stop your brother from his crazy. If there's no chance to kill the half-chameleon, abort the mission. You've already succeeded in doing the original task.]
That was the message Jack sent to Ninzhe.
Of course, Ninzhe complied. Even he was a little startled at what is happening. Also, if it was him, he would've stopped long ago. There's no reason to chase the half-chameleon this way when the following buildings are close to each other. At the same time, the difference in height is negligible with her strong legs.
"Did he hit his head?" Ninzhe thought as he chased after Zhenin.
When Zhenin reached a corner, Ninzhe realized something. No matter how much he looked up to his brother, he knew he was better physically to Zhenin. His current pace is actually higher than Zhenin's regular speed. Even so, he still failed to close the gap between him and his twin.
This shocked him even more.
"Just what exactly happened to him?"
[Your brother had a breakthrough. He even unlocked one of his racial talents, which is true slithering.]
Due to how short Zhenin's breakthrough was when Ninzhe saw the video, he thought his twin was just resting. He didn't even think about Zhenin breaking through.
"That's a thing?" Ninzhe asked without stopping his movements.
He was surprised that such talents are hidden in his blood. Predominantly, he's a human with a 33% snake genome and 29% seahorse. This was something that Jack informed him during his treatment.
What he never heard was the racial talent part. "Seems like something to look forward to," he thought.
The thought was quick enough that it didn't slow him down. Immediately after, his thoughts went back to his brother.
Ninzhe wasn't running at his fastest speed. It's not that he wasn't trying, it's just that in his mind is that his intelligent brother would realize how futile his chase was.
Just like every other action, to achieve the absolute peak, one must focus. This distraction would make him stumble and fall over, Ninzhe didn't dare run his fastest when his mindset is so chaotic.
How could someone like Zhenin not understand this?
Every thought that came to his mind became even more distant.
However, they already ran for another half a kilometer, and Zhenin still chased. At this point, the gap between Zhenin and the half-chameleon had passed five buildings already while Ninzhe maintained the gap between him and his twin.
"This is ridiculous!" Ninzhe thought. This time, his trust towards his brother had been hit considerably.
"Is he still my reliable brother?" he cried as he increased his speed.
Without him noticing, his ring shone blue, and so was his shoes.
Jack, on the white space, began to focus on this scene. He found it odd. For the last few weeks, he already understood the twins. Ninzhe had an undeniable inferiority complex to his brother. If he saw Zhenin making some mistakes, his mind would make up reasons for why it failed.
Glancing at Zhenin, whose soul is currently fragmented, a thought came to Jack's mind.
During Ninzhe's treatment, his soul was half awake. While the process was fast that it only took a few hours, Ninzhe remained conscious of his surroundings.
That explains why his reverie of Jack increased to its maximum.
"Did that affected his state of mind?"
After pondering for a bit more, Jack wrote his findings down.
Back in Huelin City.
Ninzhe just thought that this was his new top speed after his breakthrough.
Jack didn't intend to hide the buff, which is why there's a glow. Thinking that Ninzhe realized his abnormal speed, he didn't correct Ninzhe either.
When Ninzhe was only 20 meters away from his twin, Zhenin stopped.
Even though Jack showed him everything, he had explained nothing. It was up to Ninzhe to judge what happened.
When he saw Jack swiping away Zhenin's soul fragment, he thought it just meant that he sent Zhenin back.
That was his own experience.
But seeing how different his brother is, he couldn't help but think. "Did something else happen?"
When he was only a meter away from his brother, he was startled.
*sob* *sob* *sob*
His brother, who was always cold. Whose smile represents victory. Whose frown shows I'm not willing. His twin, whom he thought he stole all of the emotions, is now crying on the ground with dirt on his face.
Ninzhe blanked out at the sounds. Something really is wrong.
Five meters away from Zhenin, he stopped.
Looking at his brother whose currently without his leg, crawling on the ground as he desperately chased. It felt surreal to Ninzhe.
"Bro," he spoke in a voice that was about to crack. Seeing one of the mightiest figures in his mind like this, Ninzhe felt like he was let down.
When Zhenin heard the voice, his sobs stopped.
While they were born from different wombs, they, in fact, are twins. Right now, both boys had a terrible state of mind. One was worrying, while at the same time, is close to the point of becoming disgusted. The other just wants to cry as he thought over his mistakes again and again.
These two, who fought side by side every since they were born. These two, who never fought like regular siblings. These two, who only wanted to survive in this damn broken world. For the first time in their lives, they began to judge each other in their minds.
Since the sobbing stopped, there were no sounds at all. The half-chameleon had escaped.
While the houses in where they are standing to look a bit more regular, the remnants of the winter theme was still visible around them.
At this silent moment, for the first time ever in their lives, the sun whose continually watching over them, whose about to bring its wrath and decimate the entire planet. It was the first time it felt cold.
Even when nothing is happening. What Jack is seeing is one of the most incredible things ever.
Souls are weird. Their shapes aren't constant, it grows with the physical body. Its color is different, like an actual mood display.
The Leiman twins aren't aware of this. But with Jack's vision, two ethereal looking boys whose dyed purple are slowly extending to each other.
