"Can you tell me what era and year it is??" Han Fei suddenly rose up and took the boys by surprise.
"It's year 246"
"year 246..." Han Fei decided to recollect his thoughts a bit and think about the situation he was in. He time-traveled by accidentally falling into a sewer, his belonging is still with him. His phone is still working it seems.
The two boys in beggar clothing took off when a female voice called for them. Han Fei glanced over towards the direction of the calling. There stands a female in similar peasant-like clothing.
"I told you to not go run off on your own and interact with strangers! You two are almost 10 years old, you little two rabbits should understand that this plague has killed a lot of people and it's highly contagious"
The young female yelled at the two boys as the two boys ran to her. She glanced over at Han Fei with eyes of distrust. Han Fei naturally let out a half-hearted smile at her as he stood up.
"Hi, you there, don't come any closer, this village does not welcome outsiders at the moment due to the Great Plague"
Han Fei nodded at the young female as he gathered his belonging from the ground. He realizes that the woman must be distrustful towards him since he wears a completely different costume than her. Explaining to her that he came from the future will only make him seem like a lunatic.
He sighed and decided to find a cool spot to think about his next set of actions. Before he left, he heard the woman letting out a cry for help.
"Someone help me! My brother Little Shi collapsed! Please, someone from the village!" Han Fei stood there as he saw the boy that was nagging his cloth collapsing on the ground. He wondered what was happening.
"It's too late, Luo Na, get away from the boy, you know that you will get the plague too if you stay near him!"
An elderly man came rushing to the cottage where the woman was from another road that led to a set of trees. It seems like it's a mini-village of 10-12 straw made cottages right behind the trees.
Out of instinct as a Pre-med student, Han Fei walked towards the woman. The woman looked at Han Fei with eyes of distrust and backed away a few steps.
"It's you, you caused my brother to be sick!" She cried at Han Fei. After a brief moment, Han Fei mustered some courage and said:
"It's ok, I am a doctor, I will help your brother" The young woman's eyes of distrust slowly turned into a well of tears as she sobbed. Her tears mingled with her silky black hair that drifted down her cheek.
"It's the Great Plague, the Deadman Plague" the young woman let out these words with intermittent sound of wheezing from her tears.
'The Great Plague? What is that..' Something ringed in Han Fei's head but he could not remember exactly what this woman is referring to.
He took a glance at the boy, his bluish lips and bluish skin represents that his oxygen level is low. After a brief examination, he concluded that the boy suffers from a common virus that mutates the Redblood cell in such a way that oxygen molecules cannot be carried by it.
Then, he remembers this event from his medical history class, in which the professor delineates the horror of this virus rampaging through China around year 238 all the way till year 250. It was later in Tang Dynasty, a famous chemist in China was able to mix certain herbs to find a cure to this disease.
It is true that he may not able to become a full-fledged physician during his era, but Han Fei will not sit idle and allow innocence to die while he has full mastery of diseases.
"I promise you, I will cure this boy"
A light of hope shined through the young female's eyes.
