Harlee POV
"All of the stories your kind tells about me-but not this one?" Samael scoffed. What? Don't tell me he was going to yield that easily?
"Let's put it this way, I wasn't big on religion until a Demon tried to eat my soul." I replied softly. Sam sighed and came and sat by me on the sofa.
"What do you know about our kind? The Angels of Death?" Sam asked. His tone had relaxed slightly and he ran a hand over his face.
"Only what Sands has told me. Basically, you ferry souls to their ultimate destination, so you're given free reign to move through Heaven, Hell, what have you. Well, more ore less. Also, you guys were given the ability to sympathize with humans to make this task easier and Sands uses that ability to also comfort the grieving. Some of you are Heralds or Messengers of Death. Zeev was kind of a soldier under that same cause. Oh and you were head honcho." I ticked off items on my fingers. Sam looked at me with a glimmer of surprise.
"Sands has taught you a lot. I'm surprised you've retained it all." Sam commented. I blushed furiously.
"It concerns my family. My Zeev. It's important to me." I stated a little too harshly.
"Of course." Sam said cynically and passed his hand over his face again. "Well what Sands has neglected to tell you amongst all that, is what the ability to sympathize or empathize with human emotions does to an Angel. In fact, I'd go so far as to say we were nearly gifted emotions ourselves, but we do not feel all of them, and none so intensely as you do. Or so I thought."
"Let me start by saying that yes I am Fallen, but unlike most Demons, I still, reluctantly, serve the Heavens. I am an Angel of Death. The First, in charge of all the others. They couldn't just let me go after all." He grinned wryly. "So I was cast down as punishment-but I still follow Heaven's command. Bitter irony, isn't it?"
"I would say it's more sad than anything. It's like being kicked out of your parent's home but still being forced to work for them. No, be a slave to them, while being told you're not good enough to come home." I said softly. Sam glanced at me quickly.
"Ah, I see why the others became attached to you so easily. I almost wonder if you weren't put in my path on purpose.." Sam murmured. I cleared my throat uncomfortably.
"So why are you being punished?" I asked. "I mean, if you don't mind sharing." Sam laughed mockingly
"Those emotions we were discussing? Turns out they're quite troublesome...
I was one of a small group of Angels sent here to observe humanity in its early days. I knew what my job was meant to be, but we were to disguise ourselves as humans and live among your kind for a while. It was meant for us to get a greater understanding of you, to help us gain sympathy. So that when the time came, we could perform our respective jobs with compassion and respect. Unlike my brethren, I was sent here with raw emotion. New, exciting, foreign. I was overwhelmed by the human's feelings around me and those echos within myself. I admit it was so easy to allow myself to be consumed by it all. But the one that I was not prepared for was lust."
"As you're no doubt aware, our Forms are generally lovely." Sam laughed. "Indeed, we often do not blend well at all in the end, because we stand out due to our beauty or perfection."
"Not that you're bragging or anything." I muttered. Sam glared at me. "Continue." I said regally, ignoring the look. With a sneer, Sam turned his face away.
"Well, that's exactly what happened to us during our time here. Very quickly, humans were showing their interest in us. Openly flirting, some being physical about it. While my brethren found it easier to resist, the heady ability to sync with these emotion and desires made it much more difficult for me. Thus, I caved." Sam continued.
"The first woman was.. unbelievable. She cornered me one night as I gazed at the stars, listening to the Heavens sing. She'd been stalking me for days, her lust growing to incredible heights, until she found me there alone. I.. couldn't resist.. I returned to my brothers smelling of sex and human and they at first condemned me, but it turned out several others had also caved to the temptation, and one.. had a radical idea." Sam glanced at my midriff.
I gasped, laying a hand on my rounded abdomen.
"That's where Nephilims come from?" I whispered.
"Indeed." Sam replied. "It's also why I know more about them than any other Angel. I don't know if my Brother got greedy, whether he wanted to try to take over the world, or just become a Creator of his own, but the next few months were filled with several of them running amok, trying to impregnate as many women as possible. Once my brother figured out how to go about it, he shared with the rest of us.
"I, on the other hand, continued to search out my first lover." Sam smiled gently. "She was incredible. Long, dark hair, big brown eyes. She was actually the fifth wife of a sixty year old merchant. He never paid her any attention, so to say the least, I felt no guilt in what we were doing. I begged her to come away with me, but before she could agree, Heaven found out what we were up to on earth."
"Some chose to Fall, the rest were cast down. I was told I would continue to work for Heaven, and I should see it as a reward and Blessing since I had only been with one woman, while my brethren had been with and impregnated many." Another dry grin from Sam. "Truthfully, it was a worse punishment, and it was enough to cause hatred among my brethren for me, and we have been at odds every since."
"Teacher's pet." I murmured, wincing.
"Yes, essentially." Sam waved a hand and stood.
"Seems to me you got the short end of the stick. Got it worse than they did." I said softly as he walked towards the door. Sam paused.
"Yes, I can see why the others follow you so blindly and willingly." Sam whispered and vanished.
Zeev POV
Weeks passed before Harlee started nagging about her job again. I grimaced and looked at Ash around her back as she sat at the counter eating a bowl of rice cereal. I raised an eyebrow at Ash and they shrugged in turn.
"You tell her." I mouthed. Ash mimed dying. Yes she'll kill us both. "She's nicer to you!" I mouthed again.
"She's your lover!" Ash whispered back.
"She'll definitely smack me." I hissed.
"She's pregnant-dodge! She's not that fast!" Ash replied. I felt an uncomfortable pressure and turned to see Harlee glaring at us both. She'd turned on her stool to watch us and I winced under the force of her gaze.
"Spill." She instructed and my Mark sizzled. I yelped and heard Ash do the same. Have I mentioned before how aroused it makes me when Harlee takes charge? Harlee put a hand on my forehead to hold me away from her.
"Cool it lust-bunny. Ash-tell me what's going on with my job." Harlee demanded. I could feel my arousal started to show. Harled tsked at me and removed her hand.
"Umm, well..." Ash hesitated.
"Now!" Harlee demanded. Yup, time to quietly adjust positions so that it's not quite so obvious that Harlee was turning me on with this display.
"You! I said cool it!" Harlee growled at me. Oh well, no use now. Ash giggled, but then shot up straight, hiding the grin when Harlee's face turned back to them.
"Explain." Harlee commanded. Ash suppressed a laugh.
"Can Zeev maybe leave, or take care of that. I find it very distracting." Ash said eyeing my crotch. I growled.
"Why should you care?" Harlee snapped. Ash's mouth fell open.
"Harlee.. Mistress.. I'm a SEX Demon. Flaunting someone's arousal in front of me is like offering meat to a piranha." Ash replied incredulously. Bless you Ash. Ash smirked at me.
"Go on Zeev." Harlee sighed. Ash shook their head and moved closer. "Oh no-that's not going to be enough Mistress. For any of us." Ash planted their lips on hers and I growled, standing up off the stool to grab Harlee's thighs and lift her gently from the stool from behind.
"Ash, Zeev, wait." She panted, flustered.
"Is that what you really want Harlee?" I murmured., nipping her gently on the neck. She moaned and arched into me.
"Nuhuh." She sighed. "But you two are in trouble when we're done." She scolded.
"Then we'll just have to make sure we're not done for a while." I purred, sliding my hands under her shirt.
