After putting all important stuff in the spatial ring, we walked to the guild. I plan to register Kiko as my familiar, since it's a must when getting beast familiars.
I can easily tell that we're getting a lot of attention. Dragons, even their baby types are very rare, but not unheard of. Baby dragons are more common than adult ones, but they are still very rare, mind you. If you have a dragon familiar, expect a lot of gazes wherever you go in a small city like this.
I've been to big cities before, and I've seen dragon familiars there. They are still rare there, but people don't look that interested in them, as if it's a normal everyday thing.
It feels very weird having a lot of people state at me. Great, now wherever I go, I'll feel as if someone's gaze is piercing me. I have to be a lot more alert now, even if Kiko can obviously defend himself.
We bumped into Emma, our party's archer. she was pretty shocked that I managed to get a dragon familiar, even if it's still a baby. Baby dragons are actually still very powerful, even if they look like babies. I wonder how they'll react if they find out that he's a legendary beast...
"Lucky, how'd you meet him?"
"I was doing a quest related to the monster stampede, and just found him in the forest."
Kiko and I practiced our excuses before we left. It's pretty idiotic of us if we didn't, because people will obviously find it suspicious if I didn't answer immediately, or keep stuttering.
"Maybe I should take that quest too..."
"Do it the day after tomorrow then. We're going as a party tommorow, so you don't have the time."
"Yeah, and maybe I'll find an adult dragon."
We talked about some things until we arrived at the guild.
The Adventurer's Guild here in Redan is just a branch of the guild itself. The Adventurer's Guild is a really big organization. It's said that they have a branch in every nation.
Every branch of the Adventurer's Guild is led by at least either an active or former S-rank adventurer with a lot of experience. This one is led by a guy named Clint. He used to be a famous S-rank adventurer that now wants a peaceful life, so he was assigned here.
As soon as I entered the building, I heard someone shout, "A dragon!" I expected people to crowd around me or something but I didn't actually expect it to happen as soon as I enter the building.
After a minute or two of their observation, they made way for me. A path opened up to the guild clerk's desk, and I immediately asked her to register my dragon.
"Ah, I'll call the guild master for you. If rare familiars come, usually the guild master himself does the registration. Please come with me."
"Ah, thank you."
We went up a flight of stairs, most likely leading to the guild master's office. The noise in the guild lobby slowly returned, as if nothing happened. In adventuring, you really see a lot of weird stuff, so you learn to get over them quickly.
After walking up the stairs, we entered a room with a plaque on the door saying 'Guild Master Clint's office'. Inside was a large room, with a large cabinet on each wall. There's quite a huge desk a few meters from the door. After walking to it, I see a bunch of papers, ever one has a lot of writing on it, probably about guild related matters.
Behind the desk was the man himself, Clint. He actually looks younger than his age. People said he was in his 40s, when really he looks like he's just in his 30s. He's quite tall with a large build, a normal guild master.
While he's skimming some papers in his desk, he says;
"What's happening?"
"Ah, sorry chief, someone's here to register a rare familiar."
"Ah, a rare one."
He looks up to me and Kiko.
"Well, what do we have here."
"..."
"Hey Sera, you can go back to your duty now."
"Yes, chief."
This girl, Sera, as he called her, went outside the room, while Clint continued to skim through some papers again, occasionally signing some stuff as well. Meanwhile, I just stood there, akwardly, staring into the abyss of nothingness...
"Now what's a legendary beast doing here?"
"Excuse me?"
"You know you can't hide it forever, what's a legendary beast doing here in little ol' Redan?"
I really can't underestimate S ranks. He knew, just with one look.
"Now mind you, every S rank has to learn about the legend beasts. The guild requires it from every S rank and above adventurer. Now, in my whole research, only one dragon has a maroon like color, flame dragons are bright red."
"So we have to avoid S rankers then..."
<'Im afraid so.'>
"And it can use telepathy as well, clearly a legendary beast. Anyways, what's the Chaos Dragon doing as a familiar?"
I guess we can't hide it anymore. We expected that we will get found out someday, but I didn't expect it to be this soon. We needed to be a lot more powerful after all before getting discovered.
"Ah, if you don't want to be noticed, that's fine with me."
"Ah, yes please. That'd be really great."
He knows the troubles it'll bring to us, how thoughtful of him. Anyways, he made us fill a form, and made Kiko drip a drop of blood on my guild card, a sort of identification card for adventurers. The guild card glowed, and it listed my familiar at the bottom.
"You're all set. I'll keep the legendary familiar thing under wraps, but I have one condition?"
"What is it?"
"Our guild recently had a surge of quests, a lot related to huge monsters suddenly popping out of nowhere. I can notify other guild master's about you, and they can also keep your identity under wraps. In return, you do quests for us."
Clint is actually a very chill guy. He said that the quests should be doable with Kiko around, so to keep attention off us, I accepted. I'll get proper rewards from the quest anyways, so it's a win-win!
"Also, I'm guessing your legendary familiar here was the cause of the monster stampede?"
"I think so as well."
The stampede only happened around the time I got my skill, which was also around the time Kiko started flying to me, so he probably caused monsters to run away from him.
"Well since that's resolved, we'll stop posting quests for those, and focus on monster subjugation quests."
The recent storm of quests related to the stampede really caused a ruckus in the city, so I'm also kind of happy that they stop posting quests like it, and start focusing on monster subjugation.
"Oh, and you're ranking up to B."
"Wait, why?"
"Well even if your familiar caused it, you did tell us the cause of the stampede, which was our problem all along. Now that it's resolved, I think you deserve a reward. Also, I don't find it fitting for a legendary beast tamer to only have C rank."
He does have a point. If I have the most powerful living thing by my side, then what's the point of being C rank at all anymore? Maybe I can even climb higher ranks such as SS rank.
"Now that should be all. Your guild card will be updated down stairs."
"Thank you."
Clint is the type of guy to get straight to the point, without beating around the bush. The meeting went faster than I expected, and I still had a lot of time in my hands, so after updating my guild card, I'll head to a blacksmith.
[Lecture time!!!! \o/ ]
I'm currently a B rank adventurer, so, my guild card turned into gray. Every time you rank up, the guild updates your card color, so whenever you flash your card to someone, they automatically know what rank you are. The guild has 8 ranks, each with their respective colors.
They're the following, from lowest to highest rank:
• E rank - Green
• D rank - Red
• C rank - Blue
• B rank - Gray
• A rank - Purple
• S rank - Black
• SS rank - White
• SSS rank - Gold
Currently, there are around 20 active S ranks and 10 SS ranks. Someone is yet to be crowned with the SSS rank. I hope it'll be me!
Now, we also have monster classifications.
Here are all monster classifications from the lowest to highest!
• Peaceful - Peaceful monsters, can be pets, can coexist with humans.
•Weak - Weak monsters, usually don't do much harm.
•Normal - Normal monsters. They can kill an E ranker if not careful.
•Strong - Can kill up to C rankers. Some powerful 'boss' type monsters start here.
•Powerful - Can kill up to A rankers. Can devastate towns or small cities.
•Lord class - Here starts the very powerful monsters. This class can devastate cities, and party/s of S class adventurers or an SS class adventurer is needed.
•King class - Very powerful monster, usually needs a party of SS class adventurers. These rarely happen, but when they do, usually at least a few cities get destroyed
•Emperor Class - Insanely powerful monsters. So powerful that they are said to be the spawn of evil incarnate itself. It is rumored to appear either in every millenia, or when an evil God descends to make trouble. If estimates are correct, we need an SSS class adventurer for this.
•God class - These are evil gods. The only thing that can stop things from this class is either a party or parties of SSS class adventurers, or a God-slaying human, which can be legendary heroes, sent by Gods to fight against evil.
Hope you learned something, kuma. Watch out for the next learning session, usually at chapter ends.
