The crackling of the burning building behind us roared as we stood in silence after reading the letter. I read the letter over a few more times to ensure that the instructions were correct before I lowered it.
Kany knelt on the ground as she covered her face. I could hear her quiet sobs as she shook in place.
People began to emerge from street corners as they watched the blazing flame consume the building behind us. I walked over to the kneeling Kany as she continued to cry.
"Hey…" I began, but Kany cut me off.
"If only they weren't so useless!" She hissed. I was taken aback by this statement.
"W-Who's useless?" Erana asked.
Kany raised her head to reveal her tear stained face. She grit her teeth. "My parents!" She declared.
"What do your parents have to do with anything…?" I muttered.
Kany stood up and grabbed at my cloak. She looked me in the eyes with a ferocity that gave me goosebumps.
