Chapter 71 - The Fire Of Responsibility (18.1)

"How much longer can you guys hold out for?!" Bella yelled, swinging her hammer down on someone's head and kicking them off to the side. She turned, scanning to try and find the other three,

Risále backed up right into her Bella caught her, an arm around her waist, "Well, seeing as they keep showing up, I think it's about time we take our leave. I think we've given Fenix and the others as much of a headstart as we can. We need to get out of here," She said, leaning forward and slamming her mace into a guard's head.

Bella nodded and went to speak again, but before she could, another voice called out, "It's been a long time since I've seen your face around," Bella froze. She recognized the voice and immediately, she knew who they were talking to.

Turning, she saw Hyunwoo was completely frozen as well. Slowly, he turned to see Veronica standing in front of one of the vans. She definitely looked worse for wear, it seemed that Val's attack on her had left its scars. But unfortunately, she was alive.

"We need to go, we need to get him out of here right now," Bella said frantically. She seemed really panicked now.

Risále looked at her, "What is it? What's wrong-"

"There's no time! We need to get him away from her right now. There's a reason I never let him deal with anything involving her, we need to go, now," Bella said forcefully, pulling Risále along with her, "Go find Leon and the motorcycles. We're leaving. We've given Fenix and the others enough time, let's go."

Risále didn't question her, nodding and running off to find the blonde boy. Bella had finally made it to Hyunwoo now, pushing him behind her. Veronica laughed, "Oh, this certainly is a surprise, it seems like a reunion, doesn't it? First, that little brat…Although, now that I think about it, it's probably only still alive because you found it, isn't that right?"

"Don't talk about Val like that," Bella growled, "And don't you dare speak to Hyunwoo. You don't have the right."

She seemed to ignore Bella entirely, "Either way, I wasn't expecting to see you here! It's been quite a few years since we last saw each other, why don't you give me a hug, hm?" Hyunwoo didn't respond, simply staring at her. She made an annoyed noise, "Damn, you're boring. Not even a single reaction?"

"I'll kill her," Bella muttered, moving forward, but she stopped as she felt Hyunwoo's hand on her shoulder. The revving of the motorcycles signaled to them both that Risále and Leon had already gotten there.

Veronica sighed, "Well, if you won't greet me, then at least great your old friends. After all, you were…Very, very close with them, weren't you? Why don't you come and say hi to them? They certainly missed you," Five or six men stepped out of the van. At this, Hyunwoo flinched, his eyes widening as he stepped back.

Bella couldn't hold herself back, "I'm going to murder that bitch. I'm going to hurt her so much," She growled.

Someone grabbed her arm, "I know. I know, Bella, I want to hurt her as well but—Look at him, we need to get him out of here," Risále said desperately, tugging Bella back, "We need to go now, we'll deal with her after, I swear, we'll kill her."

Bella turned to see Hyunwoo, completely frozen still. It seemed Leon had also snapped out of whatever chock he'd been in and he approached Hyunwoo carefully. He took his hand, "Hyunwoo? Let's go, come on. Let's get out of here," Hyunwoo still seemed completely frozen. Leon pulled on his arm gently, "Hyung, let's go. Please."

Finally, Hyunwoo looked away, looking down for a moment. Taking a deep, he nodded, turning away from Veronica. As he took a few steps forward, with Leon leading him, Hyunwoo stopped for a minute and turned around. His voice was calm, even, and yet it somehow still carried through all the chaos, "One day, you will feel the same fear that everyone you hurt felt. I will be the one to kill you and I will enjoy watching the life drain from your eyes," He said softly, and not even looking at her reaction, he simply followed Leon.

They got onto the motorcycles, Risále and Bella already on one, holding off the guards as much as they could. Leon and Hyunwoo quickly climbed onto the other bike, Leon driving. Neither of them said anything.

Hyunwoo continued to stay quiet even as they managed to force their way through the crowds. Bella gave them a sign to split off, the two girls heading straight forward while Leon and Hyunwoo ducked into an alleyway, taking a few turns here and there to try and lose the people following them.

When it seemed like they were in the clear, Hyunwoo put his weapon away, sitting down and almost sagging against Leon's back.

"Hyunwoo…" Leon said hesitantly, "What she said…"

"No, Leon. Please," Hyunwoo said quietly, burying his face in Leon's shoulder, "Please don't ask me now."

Leon bit his lip, "Alright. We don't have to talk about it. Are you…Okay?"

"No," Hyunwoo responded honestly, "But we don't have time for that. We need to meet up with everyone else. I'll feel better when I know Nia and Val are being taken care of."

"Okay. I know a quicker way but it's probably riskier. Do you want to continue by bike or do you want to go the other way?"

"Whatever gets us out of here quicker," Hyunwoo responded. Leon nodded and slowed the motorcycle, pulling over to the side of the street and parking the motorcycle.

Leon helped Hyunwoo off the motorcycle and kept a grip on his hand, "Alright, we need to go up one of the buildings and get to the rooftop. Most of this area actually wasn't affected too badly by the bombs, so we can travel through roofs and use fire escapes. I just don't know if they plan on dropping more bombs…"

"Let's give it a shot," Hyunwoo responded, "Maybe we can get out before they start dropping the bombs. The route that Bella and Risále have taken will get them to the gates quicker than we would by bike, so maybe we can catch them at the same time."

Leon nodded and the both of them darted into the closest building, sprinting up the staircase. As they made it to the floor below the roof, they both stopped as they heard yelling and screaming from one of the doors. The boys paused, looking at each other. Hyunwoo stepped forward, braced himself, and then launched himself at the door, using his shoulder to ram down the door.

"Hold on, we're going to get you out of there!" Leon yelled as Hyunwoo slammed into the door again, "Stay away from the door, we're going to try and break it down!"

Hyunwoo rammed into the door one more time and it slammed open. Both of them burst into the room to see a woman and a small child backed into a corner, a large piece of the ceiling blocking them from getting out, "Help us, please!" The woman cried.

They both moved forward, quickly moving the debris out of the way. Hyunwoo carefully picked the child up, helping him out of the area before doing the same for the woman. Leon helped them stand, letting them lean on him for a moment, "There's a motorcycle down outside this building. Do you know how to drive, Ma'am?" The woman nodded, "Alright, that's good. Take your child and take the bike. Get to the gate at the exit to the town. There are multiple escape shuttles there that will transport you out of the town."

"Thank you," The woman said, relief pouring into her voice, "Thank you so much."

Hyunwoo gave her a smile, "Stay safe, alright?" The woman nodded, taking her child's hand and leaving the apartment. Leon and Hyunwoo followed, quickly making their way up to the roof, pushing open the door leading to the flat top.

"You up for some parkour?" Leon asked, grinning.

"You know it," Hyunwoo winked back.

The two of them ran across the roof, leaping off the edge and landing on the building next to them, "You good?" Leon asked, brushing some dust off himself and standing up straight. Hyunwoo nodded.

"Yeah, I'm alright, just—" Hyunwoo reached down and tugged his sweater over his head, "It's a bit too hot for this," He was left with the cropped black tank top he had on underneath. Leon had to actively avoid looking at Hyunwoo's midriff or back or he'd catch a glimpse of the tips of his boyfriend's tattoos peeking out of his jeans.

He groaned, "I can't believe you got those tattoos while we were apart. Do you know how insane you make me? I need to focus."

Hyunwoo grinned, grabbing Leon's arm and pulling him into a kiss, quickly dominating it. He licked into Leon's mouth as the other boy's fingers hooked on the belt hooks of his jeans. Pulling back, he patted Leon's cheek, "Enough for you, baby?"

Leon whined as he leaned forward, dropping his head on Hyunwoo's shoulder, "Hyung…"

"Alright, alright, later, okay?" Hyunwoo laughed, "Let's keep going. I…Hope Risále and Bella are alright."

Leon looked out at the burning town, "I hope so, too."

Meanwhile, the two women were racing across the town, Bella picking up speed as they plowed through groups of guards. Risále was using her mace, swinging it to keep anyone away from the boke as much as she could.

"Hey, Blueberry!" Bella yelled back to her, "Get down and hold tight! We're about to break a law!"

"I think we've broken plenty already, but alright!" Risále called back, sitting back down and wrapping her arms around Bella's waist. She looked around as Bella sped up, and then blinked as she looked up to her right, "Uh…Bella? I'm not just seeing things, am I?"

The woman looked up and almost swerved the bike in surprise, "What the hell? What are they doing?"

"Gaining on us, that's what they're doing! Hurry up, woman!" Risále urged her, tapping her shoulder.

Bella raised an eyebrow, "I'm almost entirely sure that I've told you to call me something else that is certainly not the term 'woman', Blueberry."

Risále rolled her eyes, "Please speed up, Ma'am, is that better for you?"

"You're in so much trouble later."

"Oh, I know."
