Zack's POV
"Alpha Zachariah!" The woman's shout thundered across the room as she rushed inside the room like a raging storm.
"Nanna!" Alex exclaimed, rushing to hold the old woman's trembling hand.
The woman turned to his friend, her face suddenly softening. At that moment, neither the black turban on her head nor her usually straight back worked to hide the fragility of her state. The woman had aged overnight, with the shadows under her eyes growing deep and the wrinkles around her mouth and forehead pronounced.
"Alex, my child." She said, caressing his friend's tear-stained cheeks. "I'm so sorry that I wasn't here to protect her."
"It's not your fault," Alex replied, shaking his head.
The head-witch sighed with a helpless nod. But the next second, her expression changed. Zack could see the building rage in her eyes as she turned to him.
