I was about to knock on Beth's door when a sweet melody coming from the room entered my ears. Not wanting to just listen anymore, I knocked twice before poking my head in first. Beth was the one singing? Wow. In school she had participated in nothing but scientific stuff. So seeing her lips move and her fingers moving on the guitar was one pleasant surprise.
I was so glad when Sharon gave a flimsy excuse so that we talk in private. I still stood where I was because I was seeing her in a new light and she became even prettier than before. My brain shut down again and I said probably the dumbest thing in the history of dumb things.
"I didn't know that you can sing"
She scoffed, "there are a lot of things that you don't know about me"
Thankfully my brain always booted right after it shut down.
"I could if we were friends"
She looked at me like I was going mad. I encouraged myself and stretched my palm to her for a friendly handshake. In her mind she was only thinking that he wanted this friendship to get a few infos about Bec. 'Well if my 'future in-law' needs some tips about what Bec likes I should be happy to supply. I want her to be happy'. These thoughts ran through her mind making her sadder than before.
But she shook his hand. A secret party was being thrown in his mind because he was on his way to the moon. Wait, my trip to the moon to party would be more memorable if...
"Mind if I get your number?"
She recited it without pausing. I blinked twice. I was happy that I had an incredibly retentive memory. I quickly saved her number with three hearts. Although I still marveled at her ability to say her number without even a break for breathe which I usually did. It was as if she did it often, that thought filled me with anger. How many guys had approached her? There is no way that I'm going to be partying on the moon with these disheartening thought. I needed to clear my head of those thoughts. What better way to do it than singing. I had guitar lessons when I was younger so I thought of showing off a little. Showing her that I was as good as she was in singing might bring us closer. I decided to do a duet with her. We should sing "like I'm going to lose you" by Meghan Trainor and John legend.
"Wanna sing a duet?"
She shrugged, "sure"
"Since I strictly abide by the'ladies first' rule, why don't you go ahead and pick a song"
She thought for a few seconds while looking at her hands.
"Are you familiar with like I'm going to lose you?"
Back up, did I say that song out loud? In question of familiarity, let's just say it's one of my favorite songs and I sing it as often as I can (which by the way is everyday). It depicted how I felt about her.
She sang Meghan's part (obviously). And can I say that it was the best feeling in the world to hear the one that you are head over heels for sing a love song. I smiled when her part ended because I couldn't wait to daze her with my voice. Just when I opened my mouth, Sharon appeared by the door saying that her mom had come to pick her up. I couldn't believe my foul luck. Sharon has been getting in my way even though it was unintentional. Where is Lady luck when you needed her.
Feeling every bit of disappointment from the incident in the kitchen till now, I grudgingly trudged behind them. When we got to the door I couldn't bring myself to look at either of them. Even when Sharon left I stood outside by the pillars of the house. I decided to leave before I created a ruckus. I walked to the gate but Bec called me and we went to stand by the short white wicket fence.
"What's up?"
I vented all my frustrations to her making sure to pinpoint the fact that Sharon had ruined my blissful reverie twice in a day. Then I went further to say how Beth had not objected to it.
"Are you sure that that twin of yours even knows about my existence?!"
"I am very sure. Well I started dating Lincoln when I got jealous of watching him flirt with another girl in my presence countless times"
"What are you suggesting?"
"I am suggesting that we should make her jealous"
Before I could come up with a response she hugged me. She whispered to me softly.
"She's watching"
Apparently Bec had spotted Beth when the latter had come to stand in the balcony attached to her room.

I wondered what had crawled under Seth's skin, maybe he had received a nerve-wracking text? I couldn't ask because his expression was so, as gothic novels so quaintly put it, 'wroth'.
He left immediately S did. I came to my balcony to see where he was headed, not one of my brightest ideas. He and Bec were talking and I wanted to give them privacy but wasn't fast enough. I saw her wrap her arms around him and once more today tears filled my eyes.
