Mike pulled up to the entrence of the hospital and let us out before he parked his truck. When we opened the truck door the cold wind stung as it it our warm faces. I quickly closed the door behind Sam once he got out. well we ran to the entrance of the hospital Mike shouted "Hang in there Sammy boy, stay strong!"
By the time we got to the ER Sam had calmed down a little. Sam had reflected on the quite drive to the hospital and gained some resolve to face whatever the news he received from the doctor. Mike's little words helped give them courage when they asked the receptionist where the room was that had his badly injured father.
"My apologies Sir but we can't let you see the patent right now. He is currently undergoing surgery, he's currently in good hands of the doctor" She says well trying to put on reassuring look.
We both new from her awkward looking smile that it was not going all according to plan."How long do you think its going to be till he's out?" Sam asks the receptionist. "I can't say for sure it shouldn't take more than an hour if you would like you can take a seat and wait." She replies. We take a seat and settle in for the wait.
Mike arrives shortly after we take our seat and we brief him on the situation. Sam looks calm on the outside but it's obvious that this waiting around has been eating at him. It seems like time has slowed with each excruciating tick of the clock above the recipients desk. It felt like hours had passed yet it had only been twenty minutes since we had arrived. sweat had started to trickle from my forehead due to me forgetting to take off my coat when we arrived. I got up and put my coat up on the coat rack by the entrence of waiting room. The only sound that I could hear was that of my own footsteps on the white lenonum floorsand that of the buzz from the florescent lights above my head. It was only now that I had remembered the smell of cleaning chemicals in the warm stagnant of the room. As I turned back to my seat I looked at the doors leading to the operating room.. I became slightly more anxious knowing how past those doors my best friends dad was battling for his life. I walked back to my seat and sat down, remembering what my pastor words. "In time of doubt pray to the lord, so that he may hopefully answer your prayers." And so put my hands together and prayed. After about ten minutes or so in deep contemplation I heard doors swinging open.
