Liyah Myers smiled and thought in her mind that Mai trying hard to make her feel good was cute but, she had lost her essence of living.
To be honest nothing excited her anymore and she didn't also have the will to do anything too. She just wished everything that happened and every feeling she had was a dream so that she could wake up from it.
Mai studied Liyah Myers hard and couldn't stand the fact that she was still gloomy, so she decided to be more proactive even though that wasn't her field. She is a naturally conservative person but watching Liyah Myers really made her want to comfort her and help her in any way she could. Mai pulled out a chair from the dining table and gestured to Liyah saying ''sit down''.
Liyah Myers sat down and looked at her and Mai continued ''don't look at me like that. I don't usually show this side of me to people. Even Mr. Saint doesn't know this side of me, but, I am only showing you this one time because I think it will help you. Now, listen to me, Miss. You are a natural when you act all-knowing and arrogant. That is your charm. You are beautiful and well... you just lack a little in the kindness department but so what? It can't be help, right?''
Liyah Myers looked at Mai not knowing whether to cry or to laugh. She really had no idea whether Mai was praising her or insulting her. Mai's words made Liyah confused but she didn't stop Mai.
''Hmm'' Mai sighed ''People who are beautiful lack something in their lives. We can't help it, right? We are blessed with beauty; must we be responsible for people who have bad intentions towards us? No. that will be tiring. what I mean to say is this, big sis, you are beautiful and you don't need anyone's permission to feel good about yourself. The way you think is different from everyone and you deserve to be happy''.
Mai stopped talking suddenly feeling awkward about herself and added ''wait, I am not usually this talkative. What is wrong with me? Why did I sound just like August right now? Did I just give you moral advice? Wow, this is bad. I can't believe I just said what August Maijune would say in this situation''.
''Mai, thank you'' Liyah Myers suddenly said.
''Huh?'' Mai looked at her.
''Thank you, but we should start preparing if not we won't be done by the time everyone arrives''.
''You're right. I can't believe I was being sentimental just now''. Liyah Myers shook her head and pulled Mai up and they went to the kitchen sink to start with their preparation.
''What are we making first?'' Mai asked as she removed the pork and steak from their packs.
''Put the meat back, let's work on the fruits first'' Liyah Myers answered.
''Okay, I recently learnt a skill in peeling fruits, so, leave the fruits to me''. Mai said excitedly as she put the meat back and lifted the bag containing the fruits they bought. ''Wow, we have a lot here. We really bought a lot of fruits. We have apples, strawberries, cherries, oh, there is blueberries too, and lastly watermelon. Is this going to be a fruits housewarming party?''
''I will make fruits salad, so don't cut all the fruits'' Liyah Myers said to Mai.
''Okay, I will leave some for you then. I will sit at the table and work on these. Don't worry about anything and concentrate on the food. But, I really didn't know you could cook. Full of surprises''.
Mai murmured and sent the fruits to the table. She washed the apples first and sat down with the fruit knife.
Liyah Myers shouldn't have trusted Mai enough to leave the fruits with her but unfortunately she did and it bounced back to her.
Mai had no skills whatsoever in fruits' peeling and cutting. She had watched the video on a TV program once and thought it was easy to do but as the saying went 'easier said than done'. Mai held the knife contemplating which side to start peeling and after half an hour of try and error, she peeled the apples and cut them into shapes Liyah Myers never knew existed.
Liyah Myers finished making the fruit salad and felt that it was unusually quiet in the room and that was when she turned and saw the disaster Mai made out of the fruits.
The napkin in Liyah's hand fell to the floor as her eyelids almost bulged out from looking at the scene before her.
Mai turned to Liyah Myers and gave her a weird smile as she murmured ''I am so dead''. Liyah Myers screamed at Mai and Mai stood up and started running. ''August Maijune, I am going to kill you and dump your corpse into the Oscan river''
Mai and Liyah Myers held unto the ends of the table as Liyah tried to catch Mai and Mai also tried to escape.
''I didn't know it will turn out that way. I really followed the instructions the woman gave on TV the last time''.
''What instructions? Wait, you didn't even know how to peel the fruits from the beginning, right?'' Liyah Myers asked as she gave chase changing lanes with Mai.
''I saw it on TV, it was so easy then. How was I supposed to know it would turn out this way when it comes to actually doing it?''
''You told me you had skills and I believed you, Mai''.
''I had, sis. I really had but, it was different. I swear I didn't know this would be the outcome''.
''August Maijune, pray I don't catch you because you are so going to die in my hands tonight''.
The doorknob turned and Mai saw Aaron Saint coming in and quickly ran towards him screaming for help ''Help me Mr. Saint. Big sis wants to kill me''. Mai hid behind Aaron Saint and saw Leo Martins and Kash also coming in.
''Aaron, that girl is a con artiste. She just doped me''. Liyah Myers said impatiently while perspiring. ''Look at what she did on the table''.
The men looked at the table and saw the disaster. The table was literally full with watermelon seeds and the pulp separated from it, the apples cut into shapes no one could recognise and all the strawberries and blueberries no longer there.
Mai still hiding behind Aaron Saint stretched her head out saying ''I really didn't know it will come to this stage. All the skills in my mind are different from how my hands did the actual work''
''Where are the strawberries and blueberries then?'' Liyah Myers asked.
''Oh, that? You see, I just wanted to have a taste, a bit but before I realised, they were all already in my stomach. I didn't realise I was that hungry''
