It just happened that he didn't further any utterance after Lillian told him her true intentions there and how she's not willing to give up on Lewis no matter what. He was both surprised and dismayed by the fact that she managed to turn the table without showing even a hint of unease.
"So then, her title as the Lady of Many Trades isn't just an overreaction on the public's part, after all..." the former Duke thought as soon as he stepped out of the dining room, leaving the two on their own.
"Well, it's still too early to come up with a final judgement. Only mere words were exchanged tonight. Let's see when the real deal starts."
With a steely expression on his face, he just proceeded to take his leave and put this whole situation on hold for now. After all, much like his wife, he's one to judge by the person's actions and not their words alone.
