In my current world, people have a different way of utilizing and gaining access to the latest technology since its very core of resources is neither electricity nor those from mechanical works.
It's magic.
Though most of the machinery and tools that people use everyday are indeed powered by electricity, the newest inventions come from magic most of the time, especially those that are hard to get by and can only be afforded by the middle and upper classes.
This is because the people who create them frequently turn out to be nobles - or at least those who are well-off and have enough sources of magic. Then again, if magic gets to be used in business, the product will certainly be a lavish rarity, and not everyone can possibly get their hands on it.
Right now, I'm quite confident that this camera is one of these new creations that are made out of it.
