Chapter 3 - Struggle

I am late.

I wish I had not thought too much and stalled.

Now, what should I do? Keep hiding here, or put up a fight?

Sumida Park, Asakusa District, Tokyo, Japan.

He looked down again, the fear in him now doubled greater than before.

After witnessing a death firsthand, his optimistic self lost, replaced by the fear of death.

His whole body trembled. In fact, he could not regulate his breath properly so he had to cover his mouth and nose.

Breaker was still staring at the corpse of the woman he had just killed. Renka guessed he would eat it, as most people rumored about Breaker, but it seemed that the rumor was wrong.

Renka looked at the surface of the surrounding land, looking for something that he could use as a weapon.

He was indeed a Player.

However, without the strength of the title, it will not have any meaning.

"Come on, aren't there any wooden branches or baseball bats?" Renka thought as he continued to search carefully.

"Grrhhhh ..." Breaker was growling.

It seems like he smelled something that caught his attention. He was no longer interested in a pile of corpses in front of him.

After trying to sharpen his eyesight in search of weapons, Renka finally found a short iron pipe that looked quite hard.

The pipe did look imperfect because it was old and broken.

However, the sharp end of the pipe was usable to hurt the Breaker.

"Better than nothing," Renka tried to reach the pipe with his hand.

The pipe was located quite far from its vicinity, but he cannot take the risk by moving from where he was now.

"A little ... more ..." his fingers were almost touching the pipe.

SLAAAASSHHHH!

Renka felt something passing behind his head at high speed.

"Huh ...?"

Reflexively, he looked back and was greeted by a surprising sight.

His Vespa was slashed into two parts.

Behind the Vespa, the Breaker stood up with an intimidating pose. His body and cleaver painted with splashes of blood from his victims further added his horrific stature.

He seemed to know Renka's whereabouts due to an accidental drop of blood on his hair.

"G-GH!" Renka immediately moved, took the iron pipe he found, and ran away from his Vespa as fast as possible.

He certainly expected this event to come, but somehow it was too soon.

Renka never thought that with just a cleaver, his Vespa could be split into two parts.

If the Vespa was not there, he would have been separated from his body and legs due to the slash.

"Grgahr ..." The Breaker looked at Renka with a bloodthirsty look.

After creating distance, Renka besieged himself while replying the Breaker's gaze menacingly. Like it or not, Renka must do everything possible to fight it.

"Damn, how can I win over creatures as big as him?" He tightened his grip on the pipe.

Aside from the pipe, he also pocketed several stones that he could use as projectile weapons. The stone was indeed not exactly large, but enough to hurt someone.

He understood that his actions were not much different from suicide. However, running would not guarantee that his life would be saved.

The choices Renka could choose at this time were; to be slain as a coward, or died fighting.

"Damn, this was indeed my fault for underestimating destiny, but that doesn't change the fact that you ruined my night with all these events ..." Renka growled.

"Come here, damn creature!" Witnessing the death of the person he failed to save, ands at the same time witnessing how powerful the creature he was facing now, did not make his determination waver.

"Grrahhhh ..?" The Breaker seemed to respond. In a blink of an eye, he suddenly shot at high speed towards him.

"Hoop!" A swinging blade drifted. But Renka managed to avoid it by crouching quickly.

Thanks to his pretty good reflexes due to his being often trained in martial arts by his uncle.

While in a bowing position, Renka tried to jab the end of the sharp metal pipe to pierce the Breaker's stomach.

It wass useless; the stomach couldnt be hurt in the normal way. It did not leave meaningful impact.

Noticing Renka's movements and position, the Breaker immediately swung the knife from top to bottom.

"G-gah!" Renka tried to roll to the right to avoid it. He survived, but several strands of his hair being the victim.

"Haha, looks like you're not as tough as people say!" Renka tried to provoke the Breaker emotion. Although he himself did not know whether he understood human language or not.

He grabbed some stones he had previously bagged, after squeezing them for a while to ascertain the strength of the stone, he threw it with all his might towards the Breaker.

"Eat this!" Renka threw it.

He did not expect much of stone, but at least the stone can block it for two or three seconds.

GRAB!

The Breaker used his left hand which was empty and caught all the stones thrown by Renka.

Surprised by the reaction of the Breaker, Renka took a few steps back to prepare to face his movements.

"Instead of parrying or evading ... he caught it?" Renka's mind was confused.

"GRRRHHAAAAHHH !!!!!" He then threw Renka's stones back faster than Renka had given him.

SWOOOSH !!!!

"Damn, I won't be able to escape!" Renka tried to avoid the stones. Two stones did not hit him because they missed, but the other two were impossible to avoid and stricken his left eye and chest.

"Arghh!" Renka's left eye was bleeding. It seemed like he won't be able to open it for a while.

Renka's vision then depended only on his right eye. While the stone throw that had hit his chest could disrupt his breathing for a moment.

While he was injured and unfocused, the Breaker used his feet and tried to step on Renka.

"GRRAAAHHH !!"

In his exhausted state, Renka tried his best to slam his body to the side to avoid the deadly stampede.

He survived.

Even though his whole body was in pain, it was still better than splitting into two parts.

"Huff ..." Renka took the opportunity to breathe for a moment.

However, as if given no time to rest, the Breaker returned to attack by swinging the blade horizontally to separate Renka's head from his body.

SWOOSSHHH!

"Urghh!" Renka used the pipe and brandished it in a standing position with both hands so that it could stop the blade's movement.

CLAANGG!

Unquestionably, the iron pipe was defeated and slashed into two parts.

What a stupid Renka.

Having watched a Vespa easily split into two, now he hoped that an iron pipe that had been defective would survive Breaker's slash?

Renka no longer had any weapons other than two pieces of pipe that were no longer intact.

"U-ugh!" Not having any defensive measure, Renka chose to run. That was the only way that comes to mind in order to survive.

"GRRRAHHHHH" Breaker was chasing after him His speed didn't decrease even after being bothered by Renka.

Renka ran with all his last strength. Even though his lungs and heart were at their limit, he forced his two faint legs to run.

"If ... from the beginning ... I was never here ... damn ..." Regret always comes at the end. Renka regretted his actions tonight.

He had strength no longer. His stamina which had been drained to death made his speed drop dramatically.

Sooner or later, the Breaker will catch up soon.

"A-ah ..." He stumbled.

Renka who was weak and didn't pay attention to the surroundings then fell to the ground easily.

"You bastard ..." Without power, strength, and weapons, Renka now could not put up a fight.

The Breaker gets ready to swing its final attack.

He resigned. Only a miracle can save him now.

Or maybe, luck?

The cleaver rose.

His life will end soon.

"It's over, my life ends here ..." he thought to himself.

Only a few inches before the blade cut off Renka's head, suddenly someone in all-white clothes shot out of nowhere and immediately approached the place where they fought.

"E-eh?"

Using her sword, she slashed both of the breaker's eyes.

CRAAAAAATTTTT !!!

"GGRAAAHAHHHH !!!" The Breaker roared loudly while covering his eyes. That attack seemed to temporarily blind him.

Renka stared.

He was indeed always saved by luck. However, the luck he received now could no longer be comprehended using human instincts.

The figure that saved him sheathed the sword back into place.

She wore a fox mask covering her face, and her clothes looked like a Japanese shrine maiden uniform.

Her long hair and faint body curves further indicated that she was a woman.

Her light blue whitish hair made his figure look quite strange to someone from an Asian country like Japan.

"W-who was that?" Before Renka could ask for her identity, the figure immediately held Renka and took him away.

She jumped from the ground to the tree branch easily.

Something that certainly cannot be done by ordinary people.

She then continued his journey by jumping from branch to branch.

On the way, Renka wiggling to escape. At present, He has many questions that must be asked.

"W-wait ..! B-stop for a moment ..!" he asked.

As if she didn't want to refuse his request, he immediately stopped in his tracks after standing on a tree branch that was sturdy enough.

She then let go of her grip from Renka, making him fell from the tree.

"Ouch!" Renka grimaced in pain.

Although it was not very high, his tired state made him very sensitive to the slightest pain.

Moreover, his left eye was injured.

He tried to rise from his fallen position and refocus his mind. He still could not open his left eye, so inevitably he could only see with one eye.

The figure of the woman was still standing on the tree and looked at Renka from there. The mask she was wearing made Renka unable to guess the expression he was putting on now.

The night breeze made her long hair dancing gracefully.

After gathering enough courage, Renka ventured to ask.

In this one night, he had seen and experienced many unusual events and tried to digest them.

But humans certainly had their limits. In Renka's case, this was his boundary.

He took a breath, fidgeted with his nervousness, then opened his mouth and asked questions.

"Who are you, and why did you save me?"
