Chapter 46 - Behold, the 3rd miracle of Erust, or wait is it Ed now?

-Fifth Gospel of the Divines: The Lord's people began to create buildings and towns. They began to live in areas with more and more people. Eventually, the people realized they had a beautiful home and they wanted to share it. The lord made animals and spread them through the seas, skies, and land. This made the people happy but they wanted more. As a gift, the Lord took one of each kind of animal and gave it human traits, something they could identify with, and gave them as gifts to the world.-

The group whispered back and forth to each other excitedly. A man had risen from the dead before their very eyes. This was the stuff of legend, tales of the ancient times talked about this procedure. And here in the very room they were standing in, a man was throwing his guts up and trying to get the last of the pink substance out of his body.

Ko'Loss walked around the room putting up bottles and moving cables while Ed sat off the edge of the table retching. Some people from the parade of people had walked up and were helping him. Some wiped the fluid off his body where they could. Two women were rubbing his back. One man in the back had pulled a flask of water out of his jacket and was putting water on a cloth for him to suck from.

When all the commotion died down, clothes were scrounged up and Ed was dressed in a mismatched wardrobe of ill-fitting clothes. They made sure he could walk. His first few steps were like that of a newborn colt, wobbly, and with no confidence. As his brain started working again fully he was able to walk around the room with no assistance needed.

Once Ko'Loss was sure that his body was mostly back to normal he came over and stood in front of Ed. "You are alright now... we must go and... see people," He said, still struggling to find some words.

Ed nodded and stood there feeling like an idiot. "Thank you for bringing me back. This was a whole lot less pleasant than the last time I came back though."

Ko'Loss leaned down to look at Ed and began to shake at the shoulders for a few moments. Ed was puzzled until he realized the giant was laughing without any noise. Finally a voice came out of the Golem, "This was the... old way of doing things. You had the... New and improved?" Ko'Loss tried to crack a joke. He was still remembering what it was to be human.

Ed reached out and patted the golem on its arm, "Either way I thank you for the chance to come back. I am sure I am going to regret this later but I really do appreciate it."

Ko'Loss bent at the waist in a tiny bow, "You are welcome. My master commanded.. and I obeyed. That is all."

For'ten walked up to the two. The way they talked to each other amazed him. For'ten couldn't imagine being so frank with someone who was so important to history. "Excuse me but I think we really should go report to the central council." He broke into their conversations.

Ko'Loss nodded, "We are... expected." he agreed. He looked to Ed and using his one big finger he touched Ed on the head. "We will.. Talk later. I must find... my home in town."

For'ten wondered what kind of home this golem would have had here in the city when it was new. It must have been extravagant.

The whole parade of people had finally had the buzz wear off from the spectacle and they were talking excitedly amongst each other. Ko'Loss ushered everyone out of the room as soon as he was sure that the lab was put back into the condition he wanted it in. He escorted them back to the entry they had come through.

The whole group stopped just outside the gaping hole in the wall. Ko'Loss turned as soon as everyone was out and started to head back to the opening. Everyone pressed against the wall as hard as they could to give him as much space as possible. Ko'Loss reached down to the large brass ring and inspected it. He reached up into the void where the door had come from and fished around inside, looking for the other ends of the chain. When he didn't find it he pulled his hand out and flexed his fingers for just a moment, thinking.

He finally reached down and grabbed the large eyelet that the chain had been hooked up. He grabbed and pulled to see that the wall would still come up out of the floor. At first, it stuck but eventually he was able to get it closed about halfway. Ko'Loss looked around the room and found a table nearby. He reached down and grabbed a solid oak leg and pulled it free from the table in one swift movement.

He took the large club-shaped piece of wood and immediately jammed it between the side of the doorway and the large stone and wooden door he was holding up. He hammered it a few times to make sure that everything was wedged together and then his face rotated around his body until he had found the man who had spoken about maintenance earlier.

"We will need to fix this later. Can we get people to guard this hole?"

For'ten didn't even let the man reply. "Guards will be sent immediately. Until we explore any other areas we don't want people accidentally going in there and setting off traps."

Ko'Loss nodded his approval and walked back to the front. He then looked at For'Ten and motioned to him to move forward. "You must lead now," he said as if the man should have figured that out already.

For'ten wasted no time in heading towards the front of the line of people and taking up the lead position. What had happened needed to be reported on as quickly as possible. They had all forgotten anything about generals or anything else for the day. The whole parade followed along at this point out of sheer curiosity. The day couldn't become boring, not after what they had just witnessed.

For'Ten led them through the hallway and back to the ground floor. Then he led them all to the central staircase that ran up from the middle of the ground floor into the central spire. Some members of the group broke off at this point. They wanted to go back and make reports and get work done. When they got to the door others were denied entry, either because their position didn't warrant access to the central spire or because of other bureaucratic reasons.

They were led up several more staircases and those who had stayed began to regret the sudden influx of exercise. The long walk to the central council chamber was supposed to induce reflection and thought. The only thing most of them thought was that this climb was absolutely killer. Ko'Loss didn't say anything but he remembered that at one time the crystals would teleport you over long distances, like this trip. He decided not to mention it because either his memory was wrong or they didn't know. And if the building wasn't sufficiently charged with power then the crystals would be useless anyway.

Finally, they walked up to the ornately gilded doors that led to what was known as the Grand Room

This room got its name because it took up almost one whole floor. Inside were tables and chairs forming a circle that faces in towards the center of the room. This meant that anyone who was presenting to the council would be visible by all. Ko'Loss remembered what this room looked like before. His curiosity was beginning to peak as he wondered what the room looked like now.

For'ten used the pommel of the sword at his hip to knock on the door. The sound was loud given its construction and what may have been a hollow space in the middle to exaggerate any noises it made.

He led Ko'Loss and Ed into the room and then walked in behind them. The last few stragglers found spaces against the wall to stand near the door and tried to blend in as much as possible. Access to the Grand Room was limited for security reasons. So this was a once in a lifetime event for most of them.

"Council Members!" For'Ten announced with almost superhuman ability. "I want to present, Ko'Loss. He is guardian to the Oracle and wizard of antiquity without equal. He has brought a human with him and performed a miracle, bringing him back from the dead."

The room hummed with quiet conversations. Some were excited to know that the old magic had been used once again. Some grumbled about the appearance of another human in the town causing trouble. Others sat in various positions watching Ed with hawk eyes watching him like a mouse, unaware it was about to be eaten.

Ko'Loss put a hand on Ed's shoulder and walked down the aisle to the front of the room. The inside was made up of multiple circles, just like other features at the oracle's ruins. Along with walls about every 15 feet apart sat a huge chair. In the old days, these chairs would have been occupied by the Generals. They would have been the force that kept the peace and oversaw the people who sat in front of them. The general of the Felis people would sit against the wall and all Felis delegates sat in front of him.

Ko'Loss wasn't surprised about the change but he was disheartened that not even one giant stone throne sat occupied. He had hoped at least one would have survived but that was even too much. Most of the people here assumed those chairs were nothing more than ornaments to make the room more imposing.

Ko'Loss put a hand on Ed and magically shielded his hearing from the loud nature of his voice. "Many honored members of the council!" he started.

"Behold! I am the honored herald and guard for the oracle, wisest soul on our planet! The oracle had me bring this man back to a place I had left long ago. I brought him back from a state of death and his rising it a miracle to itself. This man is the true prophet, the pilgrim, and the one who will restore the balance to the world. Behold! He is now a prophet of the Oracle."

-----

After this event, many people would inaccurately attribute his resurrection as being a miracle performed by Erust. Erust was currently on a wagon headed south to the snow lands and the deep ocean ports. He had absolutely nothing to do with this. At this point, the fact that there are two prophets was unknown to anyone except for Ed, Ko'Loss, and the oracle.
