Chapter 27 - A Witch

Father went on a business trip yesterday. And at that time, the atmosphere was average. Amanda didn't do anything, but she still tried to gain my favor. Luckily my brothers are always around me when he's trying to approach me. Lunch, dinner, it's awkward, but we endure it.

I played with Edgar and the twins, getting a pat from Juno before bed, then I go to sleep.

It's normal.

Except for today.

Earlier this morning, Amanda caused an uproar because she fired three maids from being 'incompetent.' The maids that are supposed to attend her early in the morning was ten minutes late. She didn't even want to listen to their reasoning.

Then during lunch, she complained that the food was very average even though this is the Duke's house. She fired the chef.

And right now, she's causing a scene in the middle of the hall because a maid accidentally bumped into her. The maid lost her glasses so she couldn't see very well. And of course, Amanda fired her as well.

I understand it if it's father, but Amanda is acting as if she's the head of the house.

She does have the right to fire staff. Father did that a lot too, but its because he's the true head of the house that can do anything he wants. Amanda's actions are too much. She's not father; she's not the one who owns this house.

This time, Edgar and the twins stepped in.

While Juno is away doing his usual ninja thing, Edgar gathered us to have a meeting on confronting Amanda. Edgar didn't let me step in, though, because if I'm there, she won't show her full colors.

I hide behind the doorsl, peeking through the sidelines.

"Let's talk about this peacefully, Aunty," Edgar said.

"I must agree with Edgar," Leorys added. "There'll be no maids left if you fire them every day until father return,"

Sehan nodded his head. Amanda, who's busy eating snacks glared sharply to my brothers from the side of her eyes. She stayed quiet as she was munching down her snack, then swallowed.

"Your father permitted me to fire incompetent staff. I was merely enforcing my duty. Are all of you upset because I run this house now?"

She smirked as she fans herself elegantly.

Sehan frowned. He's about to say something, but Leorys stopped him. Edgar sighed.

"We're not upset. We're only wanted to remind you that the real head of the family is our father. I'm sure father's intention in giving you this permission is for the sake of convenience in this house. But you fired the servants in this house excessively-"

"I could always hire more," Aunt didn't even wait until Edgar finish his words. "Your argue is effete,"

"!"

My brothers' faces looked offended.

I gritted my teeth.

Damn that aunt.

"... Aunt. If you have even a little conscience, you'll know that your actions on carrying out father's duties were wrong,"

"!" Amanda's eyes twitched.

"Those servants you fired, they have been devoting their lives to this house. You fired them that easily, taking away their only source of income..."

"... Why do I have to be concerned about that?"

"... What?" Edgar blinked.

Amanda tilted her head to the side.

"I said, why do I have to be concerned about that? They're just mere servants. They don't have value, just simple commoners. If you want convenience in this house, then hiring capable servants is the right choice. Hm, I don't know the most well-known children from Conover house was this dense,"

"You!"

Sehan yelled. Amanda looked amused.

Leorys sighed and grabbed Sehan's shoulder.

"Don't," He whispered.

"..." Sehan stayed quiet. His fists are trembling.

"I see..." Edgar mumbled. Amanda raised one of her eyebrows. An innocent smile crept on Edgar's face. "And now I learned something new,"

"And what was that?" Amanda asked cheerfully.

"I learned why father chose Cynthia over the 'competent' Amanda,"

Slap!

"!"

My eyes are wide open.

The room was silent.

It felt like the time had stopped. My hearing is covered with a ringing noise. I can feel my eyes are shaking, and my body is trembling.

My body, it's boiling with anger.

The feeling of my fury was severe. My heart was beating rapidly, and I scratched the door frame covered with brown paint. Suddenly my body is numb, and all I can feel is hate.

That witch dare hit my brother with that dirty hands of her.
