Chapter 1 - Who I was supposed to be

Never in a million years, I thought, I would be a reaper. But thanks to that accursed man I am of what I have become. I had everything from a high class family, good looks, the most beautiful fiancé, and never had to worry about my next meal. Thanks to this curse I am just a living skeleton. Even though I cannot die but yet I'm already dead in more ways than one.

I have lived so long that you would think I have forgotten my name or how many souls I have escorted after all these years. But this is not the case. I remember every last detailed for over 5000 years. My name was Lucian but now you can call me the Grim Reaper.

My story begins in Egypt in a village outside of Cairo. My farther was a scholar and adviser to the pharaoh. I was suppose to take over for my farther after learning what I needed to take over for him. But my ignorance exceeded my logic.

"Farther when will you step down and have me take over." I asked while he is reading his scrolls. He looks up at me and let out a small sigh. "Well?!" I said anxiously.

"You will take over my title, when you can answer a little riddle."

"So what is it" I eagerly asked as this may be the my chance to succeed.

"How can one rule but have no powers, how can one lead without leading, and how can one die but not be dead."

As I was pondering the riddle, I realized it didn't make sense to me. But since it was my chance to take over. I have to give him an answer quickly. But not knowing the answer I made the most logically choice I could think of. I answered "A pharaoh" with both confidence and uneasiness.

As I waited for his replied I knew it was wrong by his facial expression that looked disappointed.

"I'm sorry son but that is incorrect, as of right now you can not take my place." With those words I felt as if my whole world has shattered. What I didn't realized at the time was this was the beginning of my curse.

A few days later I was still angry about that the riddle. I have asked him what was the answer and he would not give it. Instead he said 'I will give you as many chances as you need but I will give you only one hint to lead you to the answer. This one hint is,you see them everyday, it may be one or two."

I went to the Moon God Khonsu's temple to pray for some wisdom and guidance to take over farther's position. Suddenly my fiancé came up behind me and tapped my shoulder. I jumped and looked behind me, I saw it was her. The most beautiful woman I have ever lay my eyes on. When we were children our parents arranged us to be married. Her farther is a general and the leader of the most powerful army. She is training to be a priestess for Khonsu.

With a smile she asked what was wrong. So I told what happened a few days prior. She set there and said 'my love I understand how frustrated you are but please understand. Your farther loves you and he wants you to take over but he wants to make sure your fully prepared. I love you and I know you will do his job if not better than him. With those words I have calmed and my mind has cleared.

"Thank you Banafrit, your word has calmed my soul and cleared my mind. I feel more focus and determined to solve that blasted riddle." I said to her. She smiled and I gave her a kissed and left the temple. As I was walking back home I felt ill and collapsed to the ground.

When I woke up I was in an unfamiliar place. I was in a area of darkness and smoke. 'Hello anyone there?' I said but only heard the echoes of my voice. I decided to walk for bit and suddenly a bright flash of light appeared and a figure came through the light. 'Who are you and why am I here?' I asked timidly as I'm not sure what would happened. It came up to me and each step sounded like thunder in a raging storm.

"My name is Khonsu the moon God and I decided to talk to you about your future. You were cursed for death from a follower of Sekhmet the goddess of fire and vengeance. The human was very jealous of your relationship with Banafrit and the position you where going to received. I have consulted with Anubis and Osiris they agreed to help me but only if you choose to accept." As he was telling this I was in complete dismay and disbelief  of what he said. Without knowing what would happened I couldn't just accept the offer.

I had to ask him 'Oh great moon god who would be so jealous of me to place a curse on me and what is it you are offering?' Khonsu raised his staff in the air, the moon suddenly appeared, and imagines where appearing on the face of the moon. A man appeared and it looked liked my farther's assistant Meri. With great surprised it was Meri who placed the curse on me. I always thought of him as my brother but I guessed he didn't feel the same.

"Meri placed a curse on you and a very powerful one but you are not the only one. Banafrit is also cursed since she never returned his feelings towards him. But now I'm going to give you a choice; 1) just let you and Banafrit pass and never be together or 2) sacrifice yourself and let Banafrit lived but you will have to leave and lived until the day you find a replacement for you. Then you can reunite with Banafrit til the end of time."

Without a second thought I told him 'I choose the second option as long as I can be with Banafrit in the end.'
