Cassidy awoke to a nation wide alert. Her TV was blasting a statement that she knew would come.
*THIS IS A NATION WIDE ALERT*
It spoke.
*THE UNITED AMERICAS HAS BEEN STRUCK BY A BOMB*
Cassidy was already grabbing Molly, her daughter, out of her bed.
*THE COUNTRY HAS RETALIATED WITH THEIR WEAPONS*
it echoed and continued to her bunker.
*MORE BOMBS ARE LIKELY TO OCCUR ON AMERICAN SOIL IN 7 MINUTES*
Cassidy ran to her sink and filled extra cups of water as a precaution.
*SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY*
She gathered extra food and blankets. Grabbing her radio and some of molly's toys. With a minute left before total annihilation, she quickly returned to her bunker and tightly closed the hatch.
The bunker itself was small, but it was enough. She waited for the alert to pass, and prepared for the earth to shake. Cassidy held Molly tightly, starting to question if it was ethical to have brought a child two years before the Earth's destruction.
Cassidy always felt that it was selfish, but it was the only thing her late husband wanted. A child. She always hoped he would come back, but in the back of her mind, Cassidy knew he was going to die. The war was at its peak and the enemy was just as ruthless as the Amercas. Bombing military sites in enemy territory was common.
Cassidy thinking about past decisions and choices helped her pass the time. She spent her time waiting for the government by teaching Molly how to speak more fluently and read. Several days went by with a careless routine and she noticed cracks or dusting near the top of the bunker. Nevertheless she wouldn't be discouraged and would wait another month for orders.
"FUCKING TELL ME SOMETHING " Cassidy yelled at the radio.
Molly started to cry.
"Oh no, baby, momma didn't mean to yell. She's just mad because no one is telling her what to do. I'm sorry."
Molly calmed down as Cassidy gave her her favorite doll.
Another month passed by, and the ceiling of the bunker was growing more concerningly unstable. She could see water like cracks at the top of the walls. At this point, she grew more worried, and checked her radiation gear almost hourly. Ready to wear it at a moment's notice.
Two more Months passed by with radio silence. After another day she could hear shouting at her unstable ceiling.
"HELLO?" Cassidy shouted through a microphone that helped talk to people outside. "WHO'S UP THERE?"
She could hear clattering from above, after a minute she heard a voice. Unlike the others, the person who spoke new where the microphone to speak to Cassidy was.
"Hello, Miss, I and everyone else above ground are survivors looking for a supposed Green Forest.".
