Alexandra heard screams coming from in and around the mansion. The servants quarters is located not too far from where she hides, and she could hear many screams coming from there as well. She held her two ears and closed her eyes while crouching on the ground inside the bushes. She can't bear to hear that and also, she's familiar with some of the voices too. Tears started to fall down her green eyes silently. She's scared and desperate right now. Despair is kicking her in the heart and she feels like someone will spot her soon and kill her right here. She saw some servants trying to run away but dark-clothed people always managed to catch them and kill them right in front of her eyes. She felt strength leaving her body every time she saw someone she knew die.
After around an hour of hiding, Alexandra saw the two people guarding the entrance being called to the mansion by the other people inside. Chance! She thought to herself before squishing her cheeks and mustering all the energy she had left. She started to move stealthily past the entrance and ran towards the forest. The house Beryl that she knew and lived in for all these years are no longer the same. Blood stench filled the air and countless servants fell right in front of her eyes. "Will God punish me for running alone? For not even checking up on my family members?" she thought. Running towards the forest, she saw some bodies here and there. Most are their servants who have tried to run away as well. She also saw some of the family's guards, but they all do not make it far before being killed and left here.
Looking back at how things went since she woke up, she has been pretty lucky so far, but maybe her luck has finally ran out because they finally found her here.
"Miss Alexandra!" someone called out to her from past the thorny bushes that she's so desperately threading right now in an attempt to escape the assassins that found her.
"Lena?" She heard a voice familiar to her and tears started to fall out. Her legs fell limp the moment she went past the dense bushes and saw a familiar face. Lena is one of the guards of house Beryl, and being one of the only 2 female guards, she is pretty close to Alexandra. The other female guard, Steffie, stood next to her.
"Miss Alexandra! Are you okay?" said Steffie hugging the young miss, seeing her young miss with blood all over her skin from the thorns and the ragged night dress that she wore, she really felt bad. "You two are here? What happened to the others?" Alexandra asked.
"We were fighting the intruders inside the mansion when a magician blew up a fireball on us. We had no choice but to jump out the balcony's window. We saw you running towards the forest alone when we jumped so we decided to catch up to you and we finally found you." explained Lena to her.
"There are too many assassins. You need to get away from here, miss. We'll hold them off.'" said Steffie.
"What about the others? Did you see my family in the mansion?" Alexandra held on to the thin line of hope that she still has, hoping her family is alright.
"Miss, I am sorry to say this but I saw the Master and Madam breath their last breath. And also.. We saw Miss Esmeralda in the same condition." Lena said which had Alexandra's heart skipped a beat. She knew that it's a far stretch, but she hoped that her family members could have run away like she did. Alas, the world is cruel.
"Is that so.. What about Aqua and Morgan?" she asked.
"We didn't see Miss Aqua and Master Morgan." Steffie said to her.
"I see." Alexandra replied to her. "Miss, this might seem cruel but this is no time to mourn over their deaths. Please run away before they kill you too." Lena woke Alexandra up from her stupor, her green eyes staring back at her. "I understand." Alexandra answered, clenching her trembling fist.
"Miss, there is a river if you continue straight from here, follow the stream and you should meet a village, please seek shelter there." said Lena. "And also, do you mind switching clothes with me? We have similar figures and reddish brown hair, I will trick them into thinking I am you while you run away."
"Lena… Thank you, I shall take that offer." Alexandra said and quickly switched clothes with Lena. "You two, I wish you good luck" she said before running towards the river.
Lena and Steffie smiled at her but didn't say anything. Honestly they don't have much of a chance seeing the number of people pursuing their young miss but as long as she's fine it's okay if they die here.
"Steffie, I am glad to share my last fight together with you."
"Same here. I am honoured to fight alongside you for the last time. Let's make it a good one."
They stood there for a few minutes before finally seeing some people coming with all kinds of weapons. "There she is!" a man shouted out. Among them are a few magicians who started to throw spells at them. Lena and Steffie smiled before fighting a bloody battle without any regards to their life. They need to take every single one of them, none shall pass to chase after their young miss!
Alexandra ran and ran. After a few minutes, she could hear the sounds of metal clashing and gunshot amidst the mystical sound of magical projectiles. She knew a big fight was happening and she could only hope her two guardswoman could survive. She finally saw the river Lena mentioned and ran there. The river is wide enough to not allow you to cross it with ease and it has a pretty turbulent stream. It's not that deep but just enough to submerge an adult until their necks. The water is crystal clear and seems delicious. Alexandra was panting for air and she had been running for a while now so she's very thirsty. Seeing the clear water in front of her eyes, she decided to take a breather and drink a bit before searching the village that they mentioned before. She crouched down and took a sip of the water. After drinking a few sips she felt her visions becoming blurry. "Huh? What happened?" she thought before she saw the world spinning and she lost her vision completely. She felt her body stumble from her crouching position and went head first straight into the river. The turbulent flow carried the unconscious woman's body with ease.
In the middle of the forest, countless bodies lay silently on the ground. Lena stood there and pulled her sword out of the man's chest before he stumbled down to the ground. Beside her lay Steffie's body, with blood all over her and a deep hole near her chest. She had been killed while fighting these assassins. The woman felt her knees go weak and all strength left her body after she successfully killed the last assassin and she fell down on her bloody knees. "Miss Alexandra, I prayed that you will be safe." she muttered under her breath before waving her hands. She had learned fire magic and had some control over it. She burned her face a little until it's hard to recognize her features. Her body is full of bloody scars and bruises now, and with her figure being similar to Alexandra, she hoped they would think she is Alexandra and let her young miss live in peace, that was why she asked them to switch clothes. Thankfully it worked out since she and Steffie were able to take all their pursuers out. After mustering all her strength left in her body to burn her face, she fell down and breathed her last breath.
