Chereads / Core Soldier / Chapter 53 - Stop Ren

Chapter 53 - Stop Ren

Ring-ring!

"Hello?"

"Doctor?"

"Yes, who is this?"

"I am one of the girls that you helped with the Core Soldier at the facility. I'm calling you because he lost control." Ms. Croft answered.

"I see." the doctor sighed. "If that's the case, he is on a total rampage, right? Killing everyone in sight?"

"Well, no. There wasn't anything on the news. We believe that he is headed for another facility."

"Hmm. If that's the case, then he isn't gone yet. You need to snap him out of it before that happens."

"How do we do that?"

"That's difficult. Anything that would remind him of who he is. Things or ideas that he loves and cherishes might do the trick."

"Ok, but how much time do we have left?"

"I'm not certain. Could be anywhere from half a day to a couple weeks depending on the host. I would just try to get him to regain control as soon as possible."

"Thanks Doc. Oh, and how's the new life treating you?"

"Very well. I'm working at a small local hospital now."

"Very good. Thanks again." Ms. Croft hung up.

"What are we supposed to do?" Lorraine asked.

"We need to remind him of ideas or things he cherishes. Something that reminds him of himself. The only thing I can think of is maybe us?"

"I don't know if that would work." Eric doubted. "Does he truly care about us?"

"Don't say things like that. He put his life on the line to get us out of the AAA, remember?" Lorraine pointed out. "Why would he do that if he didn't care about us."

"She has a point." Ms. Croft backed Lorraine. "If anyone is going to do this, it has to be us."

Ms. Carter seemed nervous and uncertain.

However, they continued on their way towards South Dakota.

...

BEEP-BEEP!

Cars were honking as another car flew by and sirens sounded as police cars followed. They were in full pursuit of whoever was driving the car going well over a hundred miles an hour.

The weaved in and out between cars along the highway.

The car took an exit ramp and using the shoulder avoided the cars lined up waiting for the red light. Blowing past the red light, the car entered back into traffic, the police close behind.

Swerving to a stop, the car blocked the path of another car.

A masked man stepped out of the car and stepped in front of the driver's door. The man then smashed the window open and pulled the driver out before climbing in himself and starting up again, just as the police caught back up.

"We had a visual on the man, but he was wearing a mask." reported an officer through his transmitter. "Is the chopper on its way?"

"It should be right on top of him any minute now." confirmed a voice through the transmitter.

Sure enough, a helicopter appeared in the sky and began to broadcast the chase live as well as make sure that they didn't lose him.

...

"Look at this!" yelled Lorraine. She was holding her phone up for all to see. On the screen was a live broadcast on the news.

They all listened as the reporter briefed them on the details.

"The police have been chasing this unidentified man for a good half an hour before a helicopter was able to catch up to their location. It has been reported that the man is wearing a mask concealing his face and shows no sign of giving up anytime soon."

"That has to be Ren!" Lorraine exclaimed.

"No doubt there." Eric agreed.

"How far away are we from him?" asked Ms. Croft.

"He just exited Interstate 35 a bit south of Wichita." Lorraine answered as she scrolled through the information on her phone.

"We not going to catch up unless we start speeding like he is."

...

"Faster! I need to kill them!" Ren spoke aloud to himself. He looked down at his fuel gauge in the car he stole. The needle was pointing towards the 'E', signaling that it was time for a new car.

Ren slammed on the brakes, halting traffic behind him.

He exited the stolen vehicle and walked up to the first vehicle he saw. This time it was an SUV.

The person driving the SUV had stepped out to yell at the masked man, but then he noticed that the man was headed straight towards him. Frightened, he quickly tried to get back in his SUV, but the man got there first and pulled him out and took a seat in the SUV instead.

"Hey! That's my car!" the man yelled after him, but it was too late. The man closed the door and stepped on the gas, pulling away.

Ren did all he could to try and get the cops of his tail, but the helicopter above him was keeping track of where he was at all times.

Screech! CRASH!

A police car rammed itself in the SUV that Ren was in, forcing the SUV of the road and crashing into other cars in a car dealer parking lot.

The ten other police cars came to a screeching halt in front of the SUV. Officers exited their vehicles and immediately pulled out their guns and aimed them at the Ren as he sat in the SUV.

"STEP OUT OF THE VEHICLE WITH YOUR HANDS ON YOUR HEAD!" yelled on of the officers as they closed in with their pistols cocked and ready.

Ren opened the door and stepped out.

"YOU'RE ALL IN MY WAY!" Ren roared.

RIP!

Ren zipped over to the first officer he saw and ripped his arms off.

The other officers watched in horror as the officer screamed in utter agony as blood splurged out from his empty shoulder sockets.

"FIRE!"

The officers all unloaded their ammunition as Ren stood there, but to their surprise all of the bullets simply bounced of his skin. The only damage done were the holes that filled Ren's clothes.

"SOMEONE GET THE AAA DOWN HERE!"
