Chapter 37 - Chapter 36

Leon had to wait for several minutes to things to calm down before he could talk again. That man wearing the Japanese armor was the one who made everyone shut up, but he clearly was warier of Leon now, he was ready to unsheathe his sword in a moment's notice.

"So, you really can forge steel..." The man asked. "What more can you do?"

"... You know, you asked me a lot of questions, but you didn't explain anything to me." Leon frowned. "Don't you think that is a bit unfair?"

"I am the captain of the defensive force of this port." The captain explained. "My job is to protect this place from monsters and from suspicious individuals. Do you think I'm not in the position to make the questions here?"

"No, you really are in the position to do whatever you want... even acting unreasonably like you are doing right now," Leon said.

"What?" The captain raised his voice.

"You know... I don't know why you people are so cautious of me, but I can imagine." Leon said. "I also had a hard time in the last four years, so I can understand where you are coming from, but unfortunately... you are disappointing me. The image that I have of Japanese people is the image of reasonable people who respect their history. While I can see that you still are respecting your history, you guys become an unreasonable bunch. Are you fine with that? Not even four years alone made me become so unreasonable."

"You…" The captain clenched his teeth.

"You treat me like I'm a barbarian, but do you really think you are acting like someone civilized?" Leon asked.

Leon felt like he had said too much, even though he was looking forward to meeting other people after so long. He didn't survive four years alone, acting like a wimp, and it wouldn't be now that he would act like one. Despite his harsh words, it looked like they had some positive effects on the captain. After thinking for a few seconds, he breathed in and out to calm his nerves.

"Very well, I apology for our behavior." The captain said. "It is only obvious that you don't want to reveal information about your skills to those who don't trust you. In that case, I'm willing to give you the information you want. However, you will have to comply with some demands."

"… What kind of demands?" Leon furrowed his eyebrows when he saw the captain showing him handcuffs.

Magic Handcuffs

It seals the wearer's offensive, defensive, and supports spells.

That was the kind of thing one could obtain from monsters, and it was the exact kind of thing they would make a criminal use of. It looked like Leon wouldn't be trusted no matter what. However, he decided to accept that demand, because that item didn't seal his magic completely.

"Very well, I accept your demands," Leon said.

Leon jumped from his armchair and let it fall on the ocean. The people around the captain got caught by surprise when Leon jumped and approached the captain showing his hands. Leon accepted to be handcuffed, but he was ready to unleash hell in that place if someone tries to screw with him.

"Follow me." The captain said.

The crowd begun to disperse, despite that Leon heard a few footsteps behind him. It looked like some people wanted to see how the captain would deal with him now that he apparently couldn't use magic. Regardless, soon Leon would understand why they dislike strangers and Americans even more.

"It looked like people gave up on the firearms and decided to use other kinds of weapons."

Leon saw a green glow being emanated from the captain's katana, and it looked much stronger than the sahuagins' trident. However, soon Leon lost interest in it when he saw a clothing store. Although he wanted something more casual, anything was better than his current attire. Leon was even barefoot…

"Ah… what currency do people use now? Are the coins?"

It would be nice if that were the case, but Leon would be in deeper waters if they still use their currency from the past. Regardless, even though Leon caused a commotion with his appearance, he didn't see any soldier. But now that he was walking with the captain, he saw several of them patrolling. Although their armor was pretty much the same, their weapons were vastly different.

As expected, the captain took Leon to the police station. Despite that, the police station didn't look anything special, and it was kind of small, but once Leon entered, he didn't saw any stairs leading upward, only downward. The prisoners they kept there would stay underground until their judgment.

It looked like that captain was the most important man of the police station, many soldiers greeted him while frowning looking at Leon, but considering that Leon got used to the presence of megalodons, humans wouldn't faze him.

While they were walking, the captain gave the order to a female soldier follow them to his office. Leon didn't know what she would do, but his heart started to beat faster since she was quite the beauty. Aside from his family, the second thing Leon missed the most was the company of beautiful women such as herself. Despite that, he didn't show those feelings in his face.

When they arrived at the captain's office, the captain himself pulled a chair to Leon to sit. After that, the captain sat, and the female soldier sat near him.

"Are you hungry? If you wish, we can order something." The captain asked.

"I'm fine," Leon said.

"Very well, I will ask a few questions, and Ryoko here will confirm if you are telling the truth or not." The captain explained. "You can relax, I just want to confirm if you told the truth about your life in the last four years. After that, I will answer your questions."
