Chereads / Delphine of Moria / Chapter 6 - Castle of Death

Chapter 6 - Castle of Death

But the battle was not over, because the night went on and blood continued to stain the moon. Delphine kept walking forward towards the giant castle that was before her, and the night continued. The people of Eastmarch kept the walls up, and the men stayed up all night to fight off any dark creature that would try and invade their village.

Delphine stood before the front door of the castle, and she starts to gaze upon it for a few seconds. It was a pretty old castle, and only now did it begin to gain control from the castle's ruler. She did not show hesitation, and she opened the front door of the castle and walked inside. The castle itself was massive and well-structured, and the walls were still standing mighty and tall. For many years, the Daedra were the ones to rule each kingdom of this world, and these creatures took control of each castle.

Of course, the castles and the kingdoms were built by men many, many years ago, and they once ruled these kingdoms. But when the black Elder Dragon flew into the world and released all the creatures of the night, the Daedra came and killed all the kings and queens who resisted. And that was when the world was reminded of the fates that would fall before them, and they could never escape from those dark fates. And so, another group of demons started to charge towards Delphine as they held swords and axes in their hands. Again, Delphine feared no monster or beast, nor whatever form they appear to be; she would fight on until she drew her last breath.

Delphine pulls out her greatsword, and she points the tip of her razor-sharp blade towards the demonic creatures. The demons knew of the power that she wielded and knew that they would have to use everything in their ability to take her down. She uses her greatsword and starts to cut down and kill every last demon that stood in her way. According to her, the only way to live in this life of pain and torment is to survive and fight back against your enemies. It was the only thing she ever knew when it came to fighting in life; she moved on, even if it meant she had to draw her last breath to fulfill her destiny.

As she cuts her way against the creatures of darkness, so many body parts started to fly off their bodies, and the blood begins to stain the ground and the walls. She fought her way against the demons for ten years, and her only destiny was to search for and defeat the one that made her like she is now. The demons used everything they had to defend themselves against this mighty warrior, yet nothing seemed to work. Most of the monsters that stood before Delphine tried so hard to fight back against her and tried to cut her down. But she proved herself a thousand times over that she could not, so quickly, be killed by their power nor magics.

And so, the battle between Delphine against the group of demons was over, and she ventured forth into the castle. And as she walked inside this Castle to reach the throne room, the villagers of Eastmarch used everything they got to defend their city. One way or another, their city had to be supported with as much power as they could afford, and they would never stop for anything until the demons were driven away. Meanwhile, Simon watches as the demons come charging through the night fog that covered the outside world. He watches as the demons hold onto their swords and axes as they charge quickly into battle against the humans.

All the humans had to fight back; the demons were swords, spears, archers, and salt to fight off as many demons as possible. Salt was a demon's most significant weakness and would kill them instantly if they were to fight back. And as the men defended the walls of the city with their very lives, so did Delphine continue onward into the castle to reach the throne room. She reached for the highest room in the palace, killing any demon or monster that stood in her way. She cuts them down like leather and left a whole trail of blood behind her and always came out unscathed.

It wasn't long that the demons started to realize that she was the only person in the castle, yet managed to get so far inside of the place. She had only one purpose in life... wipe out the demons from the face of the earth and put her past behind her. Unlike the people of this world, Delphine was the only one who fought against every opponent that crossed her path and survived countless battles. She knew that she had to defeat the Grim Reaper to right past wrongs and to do that, she had to go and face hundreds of foes that would likely come to cut her down. And so long as she could make it out through those battles alive, she had to be focused on swinging her sword.

Meanwhile, as Delphine makes it through a few more floors, she sees a wolf spirit come walking towards her. His name is Rollo, the elder wolf, and the one who has seen all the things that the world had to offer in the days of old. His aged appearance made him more mysterious than he already was as he stood before Delphine. His eyes were red, his hair was white as snow, and his mind was as sharp as a blade as he walked the many roads of this world. And then, Delphine strolls towards the elder wolf, and to her surprise, the wolf did not flinch or react like any ordinary wolf.

"Welcome, Delphine. I've been expecting you," Rollo said.

"Who are you? How do you know my name?" Delphine asked.

"I know all. I am here to make sure that you complete your task, and to make sure nobody stands in your way. I am here to guide you," he said.

"Guide me? I don't need anyone to guide or direct me. Move aside," she said.

"As you wish. However, what you do tonight will be with you forever. Your fate will be sealed, and there is nothing you can do to change it. I am sorry to say that you will be cursed because of what you will do. The darkness that you swore to destroy will consume your very soul."

Before Rollo could say anything else, Delphine pulls out her Bow and Arrow, and she aims and shoots at the elder wolf, but the arrow lands onto the ground a few inches before him. The elder wolf looks down and stares at the ebony arrow that he was almost shot by, and looked up at Delphine as she aims another arrow at him.

"I will put the next one between your eyes. I will hear no more from you," Delphine said. And after she said this, the wolf backed away slowly, and he gives her a final look in the eyes before he turns around.

And then, Rollo disappeared from Delphine's sight, and he was gone from the castle; all she could see were a few footprints that the wolf left behind. Then, Delphine puts her arrow back into her pelt of ebony arrows and puts away her bow. She walks toward the shaft that was on the ground, and she also puts that arrow back into her pelt.

"That... wolf. Who is he? How does he know about my purpose? I don't get it," she said. All she ever wanted was some answers from the wolf, not vague boasts that made her ask more questions.

And so, she walked on and delved higher up in the castle to find the one who rules the place, and put an end to him. She knew that the Daedra are the ones who rule the castles and sent forth their demon invasions to the villages. She knew that they are the ones that were the toughest and more challenging to kill than any ordinary demon. She knew that they are the ones who will risk anything to keep the castles under their protection, and made sure that nobody stood in their way. Even though anyone could do it, the people believed that Delphine could quickly bring it all to an end with her blade.

Finally, she makes it to the front doors of the throne room, and she gazed upon the structure of the doors. The Daedra themselves built the doors, and they were bigger and more powerful than an ordinary door. Without hesitation, Delphine opens the doors, and she begins to walk toward the Daedra that sat on the throne. She saw that ten guards served the Daedra, and each one wielded a long spear. Five guards were on each side of the large throne that the Daedra sat upon, and each one wore dark clothing and armor.
