Chapter 28 - Cain Harris

I continued to read the article for a good 20 minutes. Then River called.

'Oh my god! Arabelle, I'm so sorry!' He said in a panicked tone, as soon as I answered the phone.

'Why?' I asked, knowing what the answer was.

'Have you not seen the articles?' His voice was flat and not as happy as it usually was.

'Yes, but River it's not your fault.' I told him.

'Has Dieter said anything?' He asked.

'No but River it's just a couple of articles, it's fine.' I told him.

'Ok, see you tonight.' He hung up the phone. I sighed. I don't really care about what people think of me but it still hurt that people were making false rumours about River and Dieter. Then Dieter called.

'Hey babe. You okay?' he said.

'Yes hun, I'm fine.' I giggled a bit.

'Okay, if you say so. I'm about half an hour away. See you soon!' Then he hung up the phone. I shrieked and jumped in the shower. When getting dressed, I picked my outfit out carefully. I wanted to look modest but still look good. Dieter told me it was a posh restaurant. I ended up wearing a lace champagne coloured dress that ended just above the knee. I wore white stilettos and straightened my hair. I left my hair down and started to apply makeup. I heard a knock at the door.

'Come in.' I yelled, still doing my makeup. Dieter walked through. He was wearing a black turtle neck with small silver chain necklace and skinny fit maroon trousers. He looked absolutely gorgeous. He approached me at the mirror, his shoes tapping the white wooden floors. I had one mirror that stood on the floor and leant against the wall. I was sat on the ground. Dieter sat down behind me, his legs stretching out around mine. He grabbed my waist and hugged me.

'You don't need makeup.' He whispered in my ear, then kissed it gently. 'How are you doing after those stupid articles?' He asked while resting his head on my shoulder and watched me in the mirror.

'I couldn't care less what people think of me, I just feel bad for River. One of the photos was me and him looking at each other on the street. That was the moment he told me that his dad walked out on his mum and him when he was two.'

'That's horrible.' Dieter said.

'I think it's best if we try forget about it all.' I ran my fingers through his hair. He turned to me and kissed me. I smiled with our lips attached. His hand reached my thigh and his thumb was creeping up my dress.

'Don't we have to meet your dad.' I giggled.

'He'll probably be late.' He said before pulling me on top of him, he held my waist and kissed me harder. His tongue found it's way in my mouth. My arms wrapped around his neck. I pulled away and rested my forehead on his. I giggled and shimmyed back to the mirror. He came back behind me, putting his head back down on my shoulder and closing his eyes. I quickly put some pinky lip gloss on.

'Come on.' I chuckled, stroking his arm. He got up and held his hand out to help me up. I straightened out my dress and dusted it down.

'Absolutely stunning, sweetie.' He grabbed my waist and pulled me close. I pulled him closer by his necklace. He kissed me on the nose.

'Stunning.' He repeated in a whisper. He held my hand, I grabbed my bag and left the apartment. He had a white Land Rover this time.

'How many cars do you own!?' I smiled.

'My dad owns loads.' He chuckled gorgeously. I giggled and got in. We drove to the restaurant, laughing and holding hands. When we got there, my nerves were going crazy. Dieter asked a man if his father was there. He had been there for two minutes. We went in.

'Just be you.' He said in my ear. I clutched onto his arm. We were showed to the table. Sitting there was Cain Harris. He had the same hair and eyes as Dieter. He had harsher features and a more square jawline. His hair slightly greying. He was in a maroon three-piece suit. He also had a long black coat draped on his shoulders. A black marble cane lay across his thighs. He was looking out of the window next to the table.

'Hey, pa.' Dieter walked up to the table. Mr Harris's head spun around.

'Dieter, son!' He sounded a lot more bubbly in his voice. It did not match his looks at all. They hugged.

'Musstest du dich so einschüchternd anziehen?' Dieter was speaking German quietly to his dad.

'Das ist nur schick anziehen.' Mr Harris said.

'Du siehst aus wie ein böser Geschäftsmann, der heimlich ein Vampir ist.' Dieter rolled his eyes.

'Unhöflich.' Mr Harris rolled his eyes.

'Sei nett.' Dieter said, shaking a finger at him. Then he came up to me.

'Arabelle! Lovley to meet you, I've heard great things.' He held out his hand.
