Chapter 23 - Armed forces

"Flames of war, huh" Mazak repeated the lords words.

Mazak walked over to the end of the bed and said to the lord, "well, Riley, get some rest, you aren't in your best shape yet, give yourself a day and you'll be better than before"

"How long have we known each other? A year or two? You've rarely called me by my name, anyway it's good to know that you haven't forgotten about me whilst you've been out… killing" Riley (the lord) cheerily replied.

"Oh, one more thing before I take my leave. I may not be back for a while or a long time because I might be heading out to another kingdom, to relieve some stress and some issues. So please stay safe, unlike this incident, I don't think I'll be back in time to save you if this happens again." Mazak stood up and walked to the door before saying.

Before Riley could say anything back, the army superior waiting outside the room walked in and before he could say anything, Mazak grumpily said to him, "what happened to the 2 hours? It hasn't been that long yet. Anyway, I'm leaving now and the lord is back, be grateful and listen to whatever he says."

Mazak quickly brushed past the superior before tapping him and placing a little spell and mouthing a spell, "visions of the past". After Mazak finished, he started speeding up only stopping when he got to the main hall to resume his walking pace.

After about 15 minutes of walking and chatting to a couple of people did he finally get out of the lords castle.

He quickly found a hidden alleyway and activated the spell he placed down, immediately Mazak saw the visions of what the superior had seen in his entire lifetime in the span of a few seconds. All from being born which even the superior wouldn't remember or recall in anyway whatsoever, to the first time seeing his parents faces and smiles, up until now.

After going through his memories Mazak felt relieved to know that he wasn't a traitor or spy.

"Ooh I wonder how my friends are doing if they're still home" Mazak talked to himself before deciding to walk back home.

____________

At Mazaks front door there stood a woman who was trying to look inside, she was wearing a dark green cloak to hide her face and identity. "Hmm" a worrying voice could be heard coming from the woman, "where is he? I need his help" she muttered to herself.

After waiting and trying to look inside for a good few minutes, she decided to hide and wait in the small damaged house opposite his. "He's gotta come back soon or is he already out of the city?" The woman started talking to herself before walking away from the building a short distance and trying to come up with ideas that Mazak may do or already has done.

However, after stopping and waiting a few minutes she heard a voice erupt from her side. "Oiii!!" She was startled and scared as she realised someone got beside her without her knowing and screamed.

"Why are you looking at my house and what do you want?" Mazak asked the woman.

After not replying and secretly glancing at who the voice came from, another question got asked, "You can speak yes?"

Finally she looks up, seeing clearly who the voice came from and she quietly replied, "yes"

"Why are you staring at my house? Something you need?" Mazak responded.

"I'm looking for you, I need your help." She truthfully responded.

"What do you need?" Mazak questioned the woman who he was talking to.

"I'm pretty sure you already know this but a war is about to start, and I know the cause. My request of you is to stop it" She requested, whilst walking up to him and looked Mazak straight in his eyes.

"Let's talk inside, someplace safer than this rickety and damaged street" He locked his eyes onto hers and quietly replied before leading her over to his house.

Mazak and the woman reached the front door and with a simple twist of the lock on the door, the door silently swung open, revealing a massive space inside. The outside of the house looks slightly different to the other houses on the street but the inside was as if it was actually a massive mansion.

'Huh? What? How is his house so big?' The woman thought whilst following Mazak through the doorway.

"This is magic if you're wondering" Mazak gave a short reply whilst guiding her inside and to a very comfy living room.

After she found a seat to sit in, she told her reason why she was waiting for Mazak, "I'm here because I need your help, and you also left me to the guards last time, so you owe me."

"What do you mean by I owe you? I thought you were a criminal or something, are you not?" Mazak questioned in response.

"Fine, maybe. The guards were after me for breaking a rule, and then a felony for trying to escape them, however that's besides the point right now. You left a woman outside in the cold to suffer from the punishment of the guards and you scared me when I was deep in thought, so you owe me one time." The woman retorted.

"Then what do I owe you?" He asked

"You just owe me, okay? Just please do as I ask. And that is for you to just stop the war before it begins. And then I'll consider the favour is owed" The woman slowly responded.

"Go on" Mazak said.

"My request of you is to escort me back to where I live and I will reward you with anything you want"

"That sounds too simple, what's the catch?" Mazak was wary.

"Hehe, I live 3 kingdoms away and there's a war that's about to break out sooner or later" she replied.

"3 kingdoms? How did you survived that distance? And why did you leave and end up here?" Mazak started interrogating her.

"That's an explanation for the journey"

"You're going to be a headache" Mazak sighed and continued, "There better be a damn good price you're gonna pay me when I get you there"

The woman's face lit up brightly as she was obviously happy for Mazak to agree to help her, after a moment she happily replied, "Of course there's going to be a good payment at least, in fact it'll be the most you'll have ever received before at once"

___________

A large building carved into a mountain side is currently housing a large conflict regarding its occupants leader and their followers. The building was the Great hall which looks like it's withstood many millennia.

The Great hall was magnificently carved and decorated with perfect paintings of the scenery outside alongside sculptures of previous emperors made of marble. The hall was lit up with beautiful glass chandeliers hung high from the ceiling, revealing even more extravagant paintings and depictions in the ceiling, creating a heavenly atmosphere with its beauty.

BANG! The table was slammed by someone, everyone around immediately fell silent.

"Search everywhere! We must find her before she can request assistance with anyone or anything!" A ferocious looking emperor shouted to his aides and assistants in the Great hall.

The aide-de-camp sat nearby and spoke up, "My Liege, finding a single woman across multiple empires is no easy feat, even with the strength and foundation of our empire. Other empires will most likely not heed our demand for the woman to be captured if she's found."

"I do not care if other empires listen to us or not but she cannot acquire assistance from anyone as the intelligence she carries is incredibly important to the lifeline of our great empire!" The emperor retorted. "Send spies out everywhere to look for traces of her and if she is found, send an army straight to her doorstep!"

"Yes my Liege." The aide said to the emperor before turning to the other attendants. "EVERYONE, you have heard the emperors will and we shall follow it through. All hail Great emperor Thirelon! Long live Great emperor Thirelon!"

The attendees all started chanting along before leaving, "Long live Great emperor Thirelon! Long live Great emperor Thirelon!"
