Chapter 12 - Peaceful days

Days have passed peacefully at the Hartgilde mansion. Nanna was easily getting accustomed to her new home with the help of Lila and Clause. Taking care of the courtyard garden was her main task. Once finished, she would then help in the kitchen or would look for Lila and help her. Occasionally, she would be seen wondering around the knights ground or would just go there to watch them train.

Since it was Nanna's first time living in a mansion. If she was not needed anywhere, she would explore the whole mansion. The mansion was enormous to the point it resembles a castle. It can be considered a small castle but still everyone called it a mansion.

She had seen a lot of people coming and going the mansion everyday. Lila said the helpers were ladies and lads living in the village. Those who actually lived in the mansion were not that many.

Nanna met a lot of good people living in the mansion. Apart from Leon and Rem, there were the stewards Ms. Langrin and Sir Verec, Curtis, Elise as well as Sir Jeoffrey the cook.

Elise was the one who always helped them prepare things for whenever they decided to go on a picnic. Sir Jeoffrey as the cook would always give an extra serving to them whenever they would eat. He would always say, 'A growing person needs a lot of nutrition.' And Curtis, they don't really have many opportunities to interact with each other since he works in the stables. The last time they talked was the first also, the first day she arrived at the mansion.

Ms. Langrin, during the past few days, has always been strict; she wasn't scary at all unlike the first time Nanna met her though her imposing character was still there but it was not as strong as before. Sir Verec, a knight of the highest position. He trains and oversee the security of the whole mansion as well as the whole land Leon owns. He looked scary the first time Nanna saw him when she wandered in the knights ground.

Nanna thought she was going to be thrown out that time but she wasn't. Sir Verec may looked scary but he was nice…nice enough to let Nanna go in and out the knights ground as long as she didn't make any trouble.

During the past few days, Nanna hasn't seen Clive and Oswald in the mansion. As curiosity struck her, Nanna asked Lila.

"Have you seen young master Oswald and young master Clive?" Nanna said as they both lied down under a big tree not too far from the mansion.

Lila turned her head and looked at Nanna. "Hmm…Now that you have mentioned it. They haven't been coming, have they?"

"Yes, they haven't- wait! They don't live here?" Nanna sat up and looked at Lila bewildered.

Lila chuckled at Nanna's reaction, "No, they don't. They have their own mansions to take care of. Why would you think that they live here?" Lila moved to lie on her side and propped one of her elbows as she waited for Nanna's answer.

"Well…" Nanna trailed off. "I don't really know. I just thought since they brought me here I thought they lived here. They were very familiar with the place too."

Lila smiled as she looked at Nanna as she explained a little hurriedly. "Calm down…I was just asking…" Lila sat up as she felt her shoulder and elbow numbing, "Why are you looking fro them though? Do you have anything to say to them?"

Nanna who has calmed down thought before she shook her head, "No…nothing really. I just thought I haven't thanked them in rescuing me before and because I really thought they lived here." She chuckled thinking of her silliness.

"Oh~ I thought you have fallen for one of them." Lila said as if testing the waters as she teased Nanna. The look of dejection when she learned that they did not lived there caused Lila to teased her.

Nanna's cheeks turned red after she heard what Lila had said. She quickly waved her hands in rejection saying she hasn't even though she does admired Clive especially when he saved her.

Those pair of strong arms that scooped her, protecting her in harms way. Those beautiful and yet calm eyes that gives one a sense of certainty. Nanna did not realized that she suddenly started to day dream.

Lila nudged her to make her come out of her day dream. "So…who is it?" Lila can not helped herself and giggled as she asked Nanna seeing her dreamy eyes.

Nanna for the second time around blushed again as Lila continued to ask and tease her. She herself does not know why she would suddenly thought of that day. Thinking of that day made Nanna's whole body warm and somehow giddy. It was like she was drunk on something.

Lila smiled and patted Nanna's back, "It's okay if you don't know yet who-" She was cut off when Nanna blurted out Clive's name. Lila was taken aback. Her eyes widened but then she chuckled as she saw Nanna, cheeks looking like two plump tomatoes.

"So…you are admitting that you have fallen for young master Clive?" Lila said with a teasing tone.

Nanna's head was in a whirlwind. She was looking at Lila like she had said something unacceptable. 'Why did she suddenly blurted out young master Clive's name. Has she fallen for him? But isn't it a bit too early? She only met him once. Is that even possible?', her thoughts ran wild inside her head.

Lila sighed as she saw the turmoil on Nanna's eyes. She was like that ever since she can remember… able to tell someone's thought by just looking at their eyes. To her someone's eyes are the door to their inner thoughts. "It's okay." She caressed Nanna's head hoping to calm her down.

"It's not like the end of the world if you really like young master Clive" She continued as she took note of Nanna's reaction. "Maybe your feeling is admiration since he was one of the people who saved you when you were in danger. You don't have to over think it and just accept things as they happen and listen here" Lila said as she used Nanna's pointing finger to point on Nanna's heart, this made Nanna looked at her chest then she looked at Lila who was smiling brightly.

Nanna was able to calm down. She pulled Lila for a hug, "Thank you." Lila hugged back as she patted Nanna's back. "You're welcome. Always here for you."

They both pulled away from the hug after awhile. Lila, knowing Nanna has calmed down, was about to tease her again but someone spoke. They both turned to where it came from to see who was it. They both was stunned as they saw Oswald and Clive getting out of the carriage. One was waving his hand the other collective and calm.
