"I legit crapped my pants." I admitted non-climatically for some reason.
The Gunner laughed at me, "It's okay, the pressure of battle just does that sometimes."
"Those, things were scary as hell!"
"Body horror at its finest."
"What the hell is your name anyways?"
"Just call me Robin."
"Okay sidekick."
I smiled expecting her to catch the reference but remembered that DC Comics doesn't exist in Fallout. It's Hubris Comics. She just rolled her eyes at the me calling her sidekick and asked,
"Why'd you keep me alive anyways?"
"Food." I joked.
"If you were a cannibal then the Vault had plenty. Unless you wanted to join these greenies. Or…" she grabbed a random leg from the meat bags all around us, "you can eat this. Right now."
While I regarded it with disgust there was another rumble up above and she added,
"Besides," she tossed the leg behind her, "I have herpes. C'mon, let's go."
"Wait- what?!"
She just gave me a look with a smile and took point. I shook my head and followed; she was playing with me. Sneaking in power armor, I followed the small, malnourished soldier to a concrete pillar where she put out a hand to stop me.
"Two mutants on minigun turrets. Crap."
"The 5.56's won't kill them at this range." I sighed and she looked at me like I had two heads.
"We don't have any 5.56's." She pointed below the serialization and there was a knife etched '7.62x51' on the side. I checked the mag and sure enough the bullets were the real-world AR-10's load. Makes sense that if you were trying to replace the M1 Garand in the 1950's then you would have big bore ammo. Which is what the AR-10 attempted to do but alas; the M1 Garand is immortal.
"This'll be easy then."
"No-!"
She cringed as I slowed time in my head, taking aim and firing. My first shot blew a mutant's head apart and the other missed. Eyes widening as I slowly began to realize how screwed we are I slowed time and missed again!
"You idiot! Now all of Massachusetts knows we're here!"
"Green BUCKET HEAD!" The mutant shrieked as he mounted the turret and prepared to start blasting.
But then there was a piano cord and I smiled. There was a revolver shot and the mutant was propelled forward like it was thrown by a behemoth. He came flying down so hard he knocked the minigun from their perch to us if we can survive the run to get it.
"Pure bloody luck!" Robin spat, "We should have died right there!"
Eyes on the minigun, we were distracted when flames and two pairs of green feet stepped in front of the weapon. Yellow-green veins signifying further mutations and age coursed through the pair's bodies as they stood in front of us. I realized that those veins were signs of mutations leading to becoming a behemoth. In Fallout 3, after the Broken Steel DLC dropped, it was said only Overlords mutated like that and they always worked in pairs.
"Should we impale them?" They conversed with an intelligence I didn't like.
The one on the left let the energized super sledge rest over his shoulder.
"Hmm, no. Save me the back strap from the boy."
"Enslave the girl." The other said, two tanks on his back and two Shishkababs in his hands.
"You already have three."
"One now. I made them eat each other."
"Fine…" the left one groaned.
The one on the right bashed his knuckles together and hit the levers on the hilts to the max. Flames licked and boiled his skin on his hands but it didn't stop. No, it seemed resistant to the damage as small flecks of skin slowly oozed off in the fire. He screamed out a warcry and charged us.
I aimed and shot him in the forehead as he closed in. The head snapped back but the big bore bullet didn't penetrate. It didn't do crap!
"What do we do?!" Robin shrieked.
"Run right! Get the minigun! Esperanza, help her!" I yelled as I tried to run and gun. I didn't have any good melee weapons. Especially for such high leveled opponents.
"I can smell your fear!" The Overlord chasing me shrieked.
There was a smash and a scream. I looked towards the noise and the other Overlord was already onto Robin! It was then I realized that the mutant with the hammer had some sort of mutation in his legs that gave him HOPS. He ripped out his hammer from the ground and continued chasing them and-
"Never take your eyes off your opponent!"
I jerked to the side as the heated blade punched through my armor, narrowly dodging the blade but had fire spewing into the suit. Cussing I punched him back and he kicked me, breaking my chest piece into shards of shrapnel. Hitting the emergency release I fell out of the suit and rolled back and forth for only half a second dousing any flames on me.
Getting up, I ran towards the wall, noticing that my power armor was on fire with my gun locked in its hand when I looked back. The mutant howled and I pulled a 180 when he leapt to me like his brother and I rolled under him. He growled, "You're smart, smoothie! But that won't help!"
I pressed myself to get back to the armor, putting everything I had into my legs so I can reach it. The hot metals burned my hands when I hit the levers and released my gun and the power core. Stealing a second I didn't have, I looked to Robin and Esperanza as they too also ran around back and forth with the mutant.
The Overlord leapt and shouldered the power armor away with a laugh. I scooted away on my bottom after hitting the floor and getting up again. I was tired.
We don't have much time left.
"Robin!" I screamed.
"What?!" She replied after almost getting backhanded by the mutant trying to catch her alive for his friend.
"Catch!"
I threw my AR-10 to her and she looked at me like I was stupid.
"Shoot him!"
I ducked under an attack, took my knife tied on my arm, and sliced at the tendons under the armpit. The blade of course only left a scratch. The Overlord laughed at me like I was a good joke,
"I was itching there!" He laughed as I looked at death with a determined snarl on my face.
Death's laughter was cut short by a gunshot and an explosion that sent me flying back. I went black for a second. Wallowing in the dust, ears ringing but still working I heard the other one grunt and yell,
"Stupid robot!" Before a slap and a crash.
Sucking my brain up my nose, I struggled up, my equilibrium off and I shuffled to my team. Esperanza was in a pile of rubble muttering curses in Spanish. Hitting my knees, I opened the duffle I had draped over her and took out the Fat Man.
"You just," I swallowed air, tired as hell, "you just rest here mi amiga."
"Aye-aye captain!" She groaned.
Chasing down the Gunner she was still going somehow. I put the fusion core in the shoulder fired catapult and aimed. I shouted,
"Robi-" I coughed, too much dust in my throat, "ROBIN!"
At this moment she was running around the hospital towards me. I took my knife and stabbed the core, starting the fusion release,
"DUCK!"
I fired the fiery nuclear fusion battery of death and the Gunner dived. Hitting the Overlord in the chest he went flying and had a balcony crush him like a grape. Just as soon as I thought I was safe another voice screamed from behind me, my ringing ears not picking up that iconic beeping,
"FINALLY!! YOU GO BOOOOOM!!"
